We're going to get cool down today that we had thought, it's in the mid 50s right now. It's a nice morning. Real nice way moves hanging out there. Some high clouds in the region. Take a look at the forecast for the day. We're going to go ahead and call it, sunshine. Some clouds around. We may have at times a lot of sunshine this afternoon. We may have at times sun obscured by clouds. This afternoon. It's going to be cooler, a high of 74 degrees today. That is still, right at about six degrees above normal. Normal? High temperature for the end of this month is 69 degrees. So, all the, albeit cooler, still mild, increasing clouds. And I had a chance for shower moves in late. It's going to be a mild night overnight. Low 53 degrees. And tomorrow let's go ahead and make it. We're saying variably cloudy. The team put on an offensive power display in Anaheim overnight, defeating the angels 13 to 1. Things got going slowly with the game tied at one one to the fourth inning, but then Mike Devereaux, in his first game back from a groin injury, went deep, gave the Oilers a lead they would never give up. The hitting start of the game, though, was Cal Ripken, who had four hits and drove in five runs, including his first home run of this season in the seventh inning to make it a 9 to 1 game. But immediately following bookings homer, things got a little scary as angels reliever Scott Lewis struck out a horse that struck Royals. Royals in the head, that is, with a fastball. Basically, last year at this time, the mast was still on it, but they were talking about having to make a lot of repairs and trying to raise around $5 million or $10 million, actually, to pay for those repairs to the plywood. The plywood is covering up some of the old planking of the decks that it is to rot. Now, to hold, a crowd of people walking across it. And there's there's other places here and there, of course. Now. The keel is rotten enough that they've taken the mask off because the mask was sitting on the keel and he was starting to break up below it. But you talked to me yesterday, and you said that you thought most news organizations, as we say, kicked the story. Yeah, they put out they put out releases and stuff, and they warned us. If you look through the copy here last year, they warned us that it was coming up. Of course, last year there was little bit of controversy. You know, it's always been we've been sticklers for saying USAF constellation because of frigate. Yeah. Well the pitchers are juiced up too. Okay. Of course in the parlance of the gym, juiced up means you're using steroids. Well, they're not doing that. All right. The Orioles won last night, 13 to 1, playing out in Anaheim against the California Angels. 19 hits for all fans has really turned on. And our highlight is going to come from number eight, Cal Ripken, who's had a great year at the plate. But last night Cal hit his first home run. Jimmy, go ahead and roll the animation. Join the more sports. Your sports team. Mel Proctor and John Lowenstein. Carl hammers one down the left field line and gone. All right. oh. And oh, Cal had five. oh at all. Cal really hit. But wow. I'm just in here. Look at this. In 346 now 19 RBIs. But look, here's going to be the story of the day right immediately after the home run. Yeah. The guy he hit it off of being Chris Hoiles okay. Here come both benches. There's going to be a there's going to be there's going to be some words spoken. There's going to be a little bit of pushing, just dumb yokel who, purposely threw it. Hoiles. His brain was as his guts streaming out. Scott Lewis was ejected from the game. Umpires deemed he did indeed, throw at Hoiles. Funeral services will be held Friday for Bill Pellington, the iron horse of Baltimore Colts football, who died Tuesday after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease. He was just 66. In his commentary this morning, Michael Lesko remembers better times for Pellington and for football in Baltimore. When Bill Pellington ran on to a football field, the Earth itself seemed to tremble when he nailed any halfback foolish enough to venture near him or throw a forearm into some terrified quarterback. You could feel them cringe, even from the upper deck. In a time of truly violent pro football on a team of truly powerful figures like Donovan and Lipscomb and Marchetti, Pellington was a man apart. He was a warrior. All other warriors watched and learned they'd better keep their distance. If it sounds ironic to eulogize such behavior, well, that's the nature of pro football business. Sure. And just to clear it up, you do not read out loud. This is no recipe to speak, right? I read fast, in fact, that's one reason why we read so slowly. We were taught to read phonetically. So what you're doing is hearing the page instead of seeing the page, and we read as if someone was speaking in our head. And since seeing is faster, more powerful than hearing was slowing ourselves down much more than we need, so that there things I was saying earlier I was asking, I said my, I'm a I'm a good reader, but my biggest problem is I try and comprehend every word and I listen to myself read the word. It's not hard to learn. It takes four hours. So I'm a slow reader. When I read for pleasure, I read the news rather fast. I think we should read slower when reading for pleasure, because the esthetics you don't read the sign and three seconds say, what a beautiful poem. You know, I never thought of it. That's right. Yeah. It's pretty well. Did you. Did you have to teach yourself to read this? Where did it go? Naturally. Little of both. I. I was majoring in biology at Suny Binghamton. I had a C-plus average, and my senior year, I decided to major in animal behavior. And I had to take a four year psych program in one year. And they said, you can't do it. You have to take six courses. It's semester in psychology and bio two for our labs. And I had three part time jobs. They said with a C-plus average, you'll never finish. Yet we read the second article as slowly as you read the first, although 98% of the information has already been learned. And when we're reading things that we know as slowly as we read things we don't know, we're reading much slower than we need to. And that's a sad thing someone could start immediately doing. Just naturally increase your rate of reading where it's familiar. Do you try to grab a certain part of the sentence? Do you look for verbs or anything? Yes, you look for verbs and nouns. What we're looking for is what's called schema schemas. Your database. What's familiar to you, for example. Can I use that for sure. We go. Go ahead okay. This is a thing in here. It says this is an easy thing to do. If possible, you would do it at home. You could always go somewhere else if it's necessary. Beware of overdoing it. It doesn't make much sense. But if you put the word laundry at the top, this is an easy thing to do. If possible, you do it at home, but you could always go somewhere else if it's necessary. Beware of overdoing it. It makes sense. The words that make sense of what we're looking for when reading words that don't make sense. It's called schema. And so what I teach people to do is locate the familiar quickly, and then use it to learn the unfamiliar. As a result, they're increasing not only their speed, but their comprehension. Okay, cool.
