Hundreds of people took part in the annual event, a grueling four and a half mile race from Sandy Point to the eastern shore. But 65 year old Stanley Richards of Laurel apparently had a heart attack right after he started to swim. So far, no word on the cause of fire. An apparent argument in West Baltimore yesterday afternoon has left a Coffeyville man dead. City police say 28 year old Joseph Carter was fighting with another man on Westwood Avenue when Carter went to his car to get a baseball bat. The other man pulled a gun and shot him in the head. Carter was pronounced dead at the scene. Police are still looking for the gunman. Police say there were six homicides in the city this weekend, raising the number to 154 for the year. Last year at this time, there were 137 homicides. The violent weekend made the annual love hands across Baltimore even more significant. Hundreds of people literally joined together yesterday, calling for an end to the killings. People joined hands along North Avenue as city dwellers and city leaders came together in a show of force. People made emotionally charged speeches, pleas for peace and promises for protection in crime ridden neighborhoods. Baltimore Representative and Congressional Black Caucus chairman Kweisi Mfume says the most important message is for the children to let them know they're loved and supported and can rise above and beyond the violence around them. Members of Baltimore's gay and lesbian community were showing their unity this weekend as they took part in the gay pride parade. If you normally come inbound on Pratt Street, you will be detoured down to the south, probably four block or so, using Ramsey Street into Kerry and then back over to Pratt Street once again as a detour route. Some of the lanes also blocked on Lombard westbound in the same area as we get underway at the tunnels and the key bridge. No problems there this morning as your pay your toll along the southbound side. The main line beltway is still clear, picking up just a bit between Parkville and Townsend and down the west side between I-70 and Wilkins, 95 inbound looks okay as you make the drive below the Harford County line. Back to you, Sandra. Thank you, Chuck. In the news this morning, Baltimore police are still looking for a gunman following a homicide yesterday in West Baltimore. Police say 28 year old Joseph Carter of Clarksville was fighting with another man on Westwood Avenue when Carter went to his car to get a baseball bat. The other man shot him in the head, killing him. In all, there were six homicides in the city this weekend, raising the number to 154 for the year. That compares with 137 killings at this time last year. There's another development in the story of a missing ten year old Prince George's County boy. Now, the last person to have seen George Brzezinski alive is under arrest in Florida. But Lynskey has been missing since May 24th. Since then, his case has led to the arrest of two men now charged with child sexual abuse. Police are hoping to get more information about the boy from 18 year old Stephen Wilkerson. Wilkerson earlier told police he had seen Brodsky to another. He had taken Brzezinski, rather, to another man's house the day he disappeared. Wilkerson was picked up for missing a court date, charges unrelated to this case. It's now 611. Let's find out how. In the news this morning, the annual Chesapeake Bay swim was marred by tragedy yesterday. Hundreds of people took part in the annual event, a grueling four and a half mile race from Sandy Point to the eastern shore. But 65 year old Stanley Richards of Laurel apparently had a heart attack right after he started to swim. Rescuers took him to an Arundel medical center where he was pronounced dead. In the 11 year history of the race, it's the first time a swimmer has died. Members of Baltimore's gay and lesbian community were showing their unity this weekend as they took part in the gay pride parade. And festival organizers say it was the biggest turnout ever for gay pride in Baltimore. 85 units marched in the parade up Maryland Avenue and hundreds of people lined the parade route. And in Wyman Park, thousands more attended a big festival. Festival goers were treated to more than 130 exhibits. In all, more than 10,000 people showed up for the parade and festival.
