Now, if you see some of that sleet, mixing in, that doesn't really mean anything. We're still going to get another maybe six inches of snow out of this. We've got reports of 16 to 20 inches of Snow around Baltimore, so we've got plenty to deal with. But the big thing we're talking about there's some winds. Here's a little sketch of where the heaviest snows of the heaviest snows that we're talking about. One to two feet along this band here. We've already seen those accumulations occurring and this storm will proceed all the way up through New England. But for the short term future, the big thing that we are talking about our winds. already had gusts to 50 miles an hour. You can imagine what that's going to do to the snow in terms of creating drifting conditions, and those are the kind of problems are going to be the biggest thing during the overnight period, so. Let me start with temperatures though because couple the wind with the temperatures in the low 20s to upper teens and you've got a night of real dangerous wind chills. So if you're headed out if you got to go out make sure you're prepared with all of the things in your car blankets and things to tide you over should you get stuck or stranded because wind chills will be dangerously cold tonight. Minus 10 to minus 20 degrees today are high. Pardon me, actual temperature 21 degrees well below normal for this time of year. Take a look at the local radar. We'll show you what's going on now. There does appear to be a lull in the precipitation down through central Virginia, and it looks like the heaviest of the continuous snow is beyond us. But it will be a variable situation because that storm system is off the coast and it will Be intensifying and could produce some waves of variable changing precipitation during the rest of the overnight period. I think maybe 4 to 6 inches of additional accumulation is about the worst we could expect here, but the winds will be the big thing. We'll come on out to the big national radar picture and see how this fits into context here. You can detect the movement of this area of precept further to the north. It's going to be a major snowstorm for the coastal New York area all the way up into New England and Boston inland. Actually, there are lesser amounts of snow because this is a classic coastal storm system reports of snowfall accumulation. Still not yet we've got 14 inches here on TV Hill. Reports of 16 inches out in Owings Mills upwards of 20 inches having been reported, but the big thing is going to be drifting now he's seen some of that already dry snow easily blown around will be easily piled up. The road crews will clear some one area and the winds will cover it up in short order so they're going to be some real problems tonight. Low pressure now centered off at Cape Hatteras going to be slow to move and is deepening tonight as it moves on up still plenty of snow in those clouds beyond us, but. Also following in a frigid windy situation will be developing. In fact, is developing right now. Will continue through the day tomorrow. High temperature tomorrow. 26 is what we expect to see a little bit warmer over on the Eastern Shore. In fact there has been some rain on Eastern Shore today. If you see rain or sleet that will be changing back over to frozen precipitation tonight 20 degrees out in Carmel and 22 at Hagerstown. And downtown 26 degrees, 27 Cambridge 25 at York, but winds to add again, a definite wind chill lowering of that temperature. Tonight, no doubt about it, it's gonna be a blizzard. The blizzard is defined as much by wind as it is by snow. Snow is already here and the wind is gonna be the problem. Increasing tonight, drifting snow, 18 degrees or overnight low. Tomorrow. Snow will end. It's going to be a very windy day. And guess what? We do expect to see the clouds part to give us some sunshine. Windy cold sunshine tomorrow. 26 degrees and on the five day few flurries possible Tuesday. A little bit of a moderation of temperature, but it looks like another storm system may be moving into the area late in the five-day period. It's been raining in Ocean City for a good portion of the afternoon, parts of Salisbury, and those temperatures are going to drop precipitously over the next couple hours. So the liquid water that's around will be freezing up and creating some very slippery conditions that could develop very quickly, and that's where it may take people by surprise. And of course with the wind and ice coated tree limbs there you go the combination of falling down uh... Tree limbs and power lines and maybe some trouble in that regard yeah that's pretty much restricted that icy stuff is pretty much restricted now to the eastern part of the eastern shore okay you know where it got warm enough to support rain today let's talk about temperatures around the area at the moment uh... Twenty two is what we're showing on our thermometer and interestingly enough some of these temperatures are a bit warmer than they were at the dinner hour but They're still pretty darn cold. And here's what we were just describing with these temperatures on the eastern shore. Even now, Ocean City at 38 and Salisbury 36, those temperatures, though, will be dropping very quickly. So anything that's standing around as liquid or even coating services liquid is going to freeze very quickly because it's going to drop probably 10 degrees in the next three hours. So watch out for that high temperature today in Baltimore, 21 degrees, well below normal 15 degrees or overnight low last night. And that'll be roughly the same story tonight. Mid-teens or so for overnight low. We'll bring in a local radar, show you what's going on right now in terms of this precipitation pattern. And once again, the thing to focus on here is twofold. First of all, we have another wave of precipitation, another wave with snow headed into the central Maryland area. Whereas we had a bit of a break from snow during part of the evening, where it looks like we've got another bit to go through here before this is all said and done. Also notice the general circulation of this. Center of the storm system is just off the Delmarva. And when this cold air sweeps back across Eastern shore, that's when we're looking for those freezing conditions that come in rather quickly. We'll go ahead and put this in the context of the bigger picture. Our national radar shows still again, that backlash extending all the way down to the Appalachians. And this storm system now working its way up through New England promises to produce some real problems all the up through Boston and Maine. And they're gonna be dealing with this the same way we are. In fact, you can see they're starting to right now. Cloud cover picture kind of shows what's coming after that a bit. In the sense that there's this storm system there. This clouds the heavier clouds anyway in the backlash, but that storm system off the coast is still strengthening, still deepening and still going to create some real problems. Our winds again kicking up over 50 miles an hour. And what's going to happen with that? Of course, we still got snow in the backlash of this and following in behind it. Some very frigid windy conditions that we are already seeing develop right now. Further out to the West, doesn't really show up very clearly right now, but this band of clouds. The beginnings of what appears to be a generating next storm that our five day forecast will show is expected to be in here toward the end of the week. So far as tomorrow goes temperatures in the mid twenties, perhaps upper twenties on the lower eastern shore, pretty chilly out in the mountains as it will be throughout most of the area tomorrow. So here's the story for the rest of tonight. Blizzard conditions continue blowing snow. Snow will still be around. It's still gonna be very windy tonight. Drifting snow will be a real problem. Particularly if you're ending up traveling on some less traveled roads, they could become quite impassable overnight low in the mid to upper teens or so. And for Monday, the snow will eventually end, but not before being very problematic Monday morning at drive time. Very windy throughout the day, maybe some breaks in the clouds to give us some afternoon sunshine, but not really warm enough to do any significant melting. And on the five day forecast, bit of a moderating trend toward midweek. But then we're looking at this system developing late Thursday to Friday. And of course, we'll be watching that to see what the prospects are for mixture of rain and snow or how it is going to all fall together. But bottom line for tomorrow morning is we've still got essentially a continuation of what we have seen so far today with maybe some improvement by tomorrow afternoon.
