You see this huge line of people here are lining up. They're ready to go inside, ready to see some baseball here. It's as you saw earlier in the original shot from the chopper, you could see that the tarp was on the field. It is a little damp down here right now, but that certainly isn't dampening the spirits here of the people who are coming here to see a fantastic game tonight. Of course, this game is not without controversy. There are some people here who are upset that the game is being played here in the United States and that this may be some attempt by the Clinton administration to soften Fidel Castro and, of course, that those issues will be worked out here very shortly. One issue that is no big deal for supposedly for the kids, this young man was one of those who went down to Cuba. You went down and played there. Tell me your name again, my friend Mike. How was it down there? It was really great to see and watch the Cuba kids play. We got to play against them on their field, so I was a few to be here tonight. It's really great. You know, I've been around the music. I can tell You have to tell you people are rolling in here. Folks have been getting ready all day. All the umpire has to do is stand up and say play ball as anticipation has been building for this thing, especially today, all day long. If you didn't know any better, you would have thought that Cuba invaded the Inner Harbor today. Music filled the air, causing a bad case of contagious dancing feet. Then. Some folks told me all that's missing is tropical weather to complete the island. The flavor that echoes around the harbor and ballpark and an oasis lemonade stand. BRT. Shula was cutting up working, that is, and thinking oil oils one be honest about blast out. I feel the Cubans want to win now. What makes you say that? Vic and Stan, thanks. We look forward to seeing you later. Well, many fans can't wait for the first pitch. Many protesters think it should never be thrown. Eyewitness News is live again in Camden Yards as Alex Demetriou continues our team coverage with the latest on tightened security and demonstrators. Alex? Well, Sally, we had fully expected to be in the middle of a scheduled pro Cuba demonstration at this hour. But if it's here, I certainly don't see it. Sky Chopper 13 did spot a handful of anti-Castro demonstrators just a short while ago. However, on the other end of the stadium, they were quickly escorted away by police. As you can imagine, security for this evening's game is unprecedented for Baltimore. There's far more than you would see for a presidential visit. In fact, it hasn't been this heavy since the pope visited. If you want a cop in Baltimore, stand still. A dozen or two will be along any minute. It is motorcade Monday. Maybe you've seen some of the Cuban delegation on the road. There are 300 visiting and all seem to be going somewhere, which meant a lot of us weren't going anywhere. But we have no information to indicate that there's going to be any problems at all. Well, full and hassle free evening is what these Cuban American fans visiting from Miami are looking for. They have the right to be unhappy. They wish to. But if they are going to be so happy, stay home unless us enjoy the game. That's what you intend to do. Of course. And there are an awful lot of people here to make sure people do enjoy themselves without any hassles. Besides a large, large contingent of Baltimore City police. You also have police from Baltimore County's aerial unit pitching in. State police are nearby, where you told even that an FBI anti-terrorist squad is in the city in case that should be necessary. And we hope that certainly will not be the case, of course. And also inside the stadium, the Orioles and Major League Baseball have their own security people. Getting ready for tonight's contest against the Cuban national team, which came in last night. This the second in the series. The two games the Orioles won the first and the Home and Home Exhibition series. That was back in March. And they'll try to make it a clean sweep tonight, but certainly not an easy task for an Oriole team that's had a lot of problems this year. One month deep into the regular season, they have the worst record in the American League. And now they're supposed to get all fired up to play an exhibition game against a team full of players They know little, if anything about. That's tough to get psyched for something like that. If you score a new Star Wars toy, you'll certainly make somebody happy. They went on sale at midnight and you wouldn't believe what people are doing to get them. Kathy Fowler is live with Star Wars mania. Hi, Kathy. Well, people are already waiting in lines to see the new Star Wars movie, which opens on May 19th. But would you go to a store at midnight, stand in line for hours just to buy a toy? I mean, it's not even Christmas. But this is much more important than Christmas. And that's stuck with us right now. We're dealing with cool temperatures in northeast for off the Atlantic Ocean at least through tomorrow. Maybe later tomorrow, we'll start seeing some clearing. Let's take a look at temperatures first. Take a look at first one here, Radar. As far as precipitation goes. There's not a lot of it. It's spotty. And for the most part, it's very light. But you see some echoes northwest of Baltimore, up just northeast and Carroll County up here, Frederick and also over the bay east of Baltimore and across southeastern portions of Pennsylvania, some light rain showers and some spotty drizzle. And that's about as much as we're going to see tonight. So there may be like 20 minutes of a light little shower and then it stops and then another hour later it might see a five minute drizzle. That's about all we're expecting tonight. So not enough to interrupt the game, but certainly enough to make it a little bit uncomfortable for folks who are sitting at the ball game tonight. Let's take a look at temperatures around the region. What kind of cool upper 50s? Most places are mid to upper 50s, mostly city with the winds off the water at 52. Atlantic City, 53. Precipitation moving in from the east around an area of low pressure. A little unusual, but this happens from time to time when you have a storm off the coast and then the precipitation come up in the southwest, it rotates around from the east. And that's what's been happening. As you can see, there are some patches around the Philadelphia between Southampton, Harrisburg and New York that could rotate westward before that, dry up tonight and even a chance tomorrow we might see a period of a late shower or two. Not a lot of rain. Look off the East Coast. You see it. That's the storm that was off to South Carolina like four days ago. It's still an entity and it's still circulating moisture and cloudiness westward. But as you saw, it moves out to the east. We'll start seeing some dry air moving in and some milder temperatures for especially Wednesday. Now out to the west, the more humid air coming down the Gulf of Mexico. Milder temperatures, low pressure there might cause a shower late Thursday, a better chance of a shower or thunderstorm here on Friday along with milder temperatures. By the end of the week, so many Friday night, spotty drizzle, maybe a period of light rain at times where north to northeast from 6 to 12, maybe goes to 18 or so, 45 to 52 by morning. And then for tomorrow, look for mainly cloudy, early and then some breaks, partly sunny by afternoon, night or day. North winds 62 down to 52. A little warm air coming in tomorrow night. They're keeping the protesters away from the stadium stop around Rhino just a couple of seconds ago. The game will go on inside and hopefully there will be no problems in there. We, of course, will continue to monitor the situation. They're carrying signs. They have pens. They are all concerned about this game today. And, of course, the police have been here in record numbers. They have lined the street. They created an entire line here separating the protesters from the ballpark. Alex Dimitri is here as well. He was out there in the thick of things when the protests began. They feel it's strictly just good PR for Fidel Castro and the communist regime in Cuba, which they would very much like to see come to an end. The police, of course, have been doing their best to keep both sides apart. We've seen some pro-Castro demonstrators on this side shouting back at the anti-Castro demonstrators. Like some folks told me, all that's missing is tropical weather to complete the island, the flavor that echoes around the harbor and ballpark and an oasis lemonade stand for your tree. Schuller was cutting up working, that is, and thinking the Orioles want to be honest about Boston. I feel the Cubans are going to win. Now, what makes you say that? I know the royals aren't playing that good right now, to be honest about it. I don't believe in mixing sports with politics. That's my opinion. I think it's just too much. It's not a fuzzy feeling supposed to get at a baseball game. You look around, you see a lot of police officers. So definitely the security is there. I think it's good. The Orioles confirmed this. They said that they didn't want to send a negative message. They were around waiting here for people to defect. Is there any sense you may not know this because I know that you've been out all over the place. Is there any sense that there is Cuban security here as well? There are actually police officers who are with some of the Cubans on their motorcades and so forth. That's at least what I do know. Okay. Okay. Christy, thank you very much. Kids from Baltimore's Youth League teamed up with Cuban Little Leaguers earlier today at Gillman. But it wasn't the US versus Cuba. The teams were mixed and no one really kept score in. This game will probably just be a footnote in the history books if it makes it there at all. The kids remind us of one very important thing. Baseball is a game. And these kids sure had fun playing it today. Tonight's game, of course, has many more diplomatic overtones and it is a competition. Eyewitness News is live again to Kevin Yards, where John Baron continues our team coverage with more on the actual matchup, the actual game itself. Let's hope we can win this one, too, John. I thought maybe you wanted me to expound upon the concept of life as a competition. Well, it's okay. I could. I could give that lecture. Anyway, we're clearing off the tarpaulins. It looks like we're going to have baseball on time down here at Camden Yards tonight. There was no batting practice because the rain was coming down lightly, and they didn't want the field to get damaged any more than necessary. They don't want anybody to get near these fellows for reasons which go on and on and on. But anyway, over behind the Cuban dugout, you can see the crime scene tape has been laid out and those seats are going to be sealed off and used exclusively for members of the Cuban delegation. They don't want anybody who could possibly interfere with the smooth flow of this game. Anybody who could possibly enable a member of the Cuban national team to to make a move toward a defection to get anywhere near the players today. So that along with. The increased police security is very much a part of the story down here in Camden Yards as the US come into tonight's game. They won the first game of this home and home series against the Cuban national team. That was back in March. And of course, tonight they're going to try to make it a a clean sweep. But this is not going to be an easy situation for the Orioles, as I'm sure most of you are aware. They're mired in a horrible season right now, their worst record in the American League. Now they're supposed to get all fired up to play an exhibition game on what was supposed to be a day off against a team full of players they know little, if anything, about. Steve and Savannah all went to game one together. And our hope for tonight's rematch leads to better days ahead for their families back home. The rest of the world is in Cuba except us. You know, I think we're the only piece of the puzzle that's missing in Cuba right now. For 40 years, we've had an embargo. Fidel's been the longest reigning dictator or leader of Cuba in his history. Can can something work out differently? Possibly. Ray Arias is also a buddy of Steve's and Sarandos. Hopefully this is a historical event that will improve relations between the Cuban government and the United States government. I think we have to put our feelings aside a little bit. You know, even though it's been 40 years, you know, 40 years is too long, it's time to. Both countries together. Like I told a friend of mine, I said I was born in Cuba but made the U.S.A.. Which was kind of interesting way of capsulize. You know how a lot of the Cuban-Americans are right for all the family. Watching Eyewitness News back in common way Cuba tonight. The team has struggled throughout the first month of the season. This was scheduled to be an off day and now it's not going to be. Or when one woman couldn't find where her security deposit was. She decided to get Gellman because it's not hard to find him. Well, not at all. That's right. I'm driving my car, and I won't mention that I got in trouble last night. Well, you know, when you rent, the first thing, you got to come up with security deposit. That's a lot of money. Sometimes it is. It's a month or two's rent. It's the first thing you got to do. But, you know, things may change by the time you are ready to move out. You may have a new landlord by that time. So who is supposed to give you your money back? It has been five months since Peggy Johnson moved out of her rented home on Borman Avenue. She is now well settled in her new apartment, but is missing one important thing. I just wanted my security. Because you are entitled to get that back. If you need the house clean and everything's in shape. You're supposed to get yourself back to that. That security deposit paid by her back in 1990 was $350. But between the time she paid that deposit and when she moved out, more than eight years later, her home was sold on the auction block. She had a new landlord, so she asked that new landlord to return her money. The new landlord explained it to me that, you know, he I didn't pay him the deposit. In other words, I was already in the house when he bought the house. So since I didn't give him that deposit, then he wasn't supposed to give me my deposit back. The security deposit may never have been transferred from the old owner to the new owner. But the new owner has to return the money anyway. You see, under Maryland law, the buyer of a piece of rental property gets all the benefits of that rental property, like the right to receive the rents. But he also gets the obligations of the old property, like the obligation to return the security deposit. That's what happened in this case. The seller did not transfer the security deposit to the buyer. But if Johnson had pushed the issue, she could have sued the buyer for the money and gotten it. But that won't be necessary here because the seller, through its attorney, returned a check for the full amount of the security deposit plus interest. $469. A welcome bonus for Johnson. Plus interest. Is that just because this case went to some sort of everybody is entitled to simple interest. It's 4%. A lot of people don't recognize. I never knew that person was 350 bucks.
