Okay. Don't tell me. Wait, wait, wait till we start. Okay. And your kid is. But. Now, what was what was that dated at football game, do you recall? It was December 76th. I don't know the exact date Where? 77. 76 was it 76. 76? Yeah. Okay. Do me a favor. He's perspiring. You got, like, a couple of paper towels. All right. It was December 76th. Right. The it was a big game, wasn't it? It was a playoff game. But the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Baltimore convoys, the Pittsburgh Steelers fans were going crazy. The fans were going crazy before the game in the parking lot leading up to the game. And induction was outstanding. Everything went well that day. Except you. You had a bad day. Well, my day was excellent and the warm ups was excellent. The first play, I think we threw Pittsburgh for lowest to second play. They got three yards and a third playing a game. That's when everything happened badly for me. You just couldn't get your hands on anybody that day, could you? Well, that day, not only my hands, my feet, my shoulders, the only thing I did that day was chase and then catch your soul. Well, I caught a lot of cleat marks, a lot of dirt in my face. And I saw a lot of Pittsburgh Steelers last name on the back of their jersey. Stole word ard Frank Lewis. Abel Franco Harris. You claim that that day you single handedly may be responsible for saving many lives? Yes, I am. I definitely am. The stadium was packed. It was well over 60,000. And everybody was excited. We had played Pittsburgh the year before, and Pittsburgh had barely beaten us. So this year we had Pittsburgh at home in 76.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136833/file/253845#t=0.51,147.18"},{"id":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136833/file/253845/transcript/71666/annotation/2","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"And we were excited. Everything was going along excellent until a third played a game. Terry Bradshaw to a bomb, to Frank Lewis for 76 yards. I'm still chasing Frank Lewis right now. And as a result of that, that turned the momentum of the game to Pittsburgh's fate. And they scored another touchdown. And then he scored another touchdown. And before half time, we were losing fairly badly. And by the fourth quarter, by the fourth quarter, everything was like at a funeral. We realized that our season was over with the Colts. The loyal fans stayed. But the upper deck was was was just vacant. It was empty. It was. Yes, it was. They couldn't stand to see you lose any more worse than what you were losing. Right. Could that the anticipation of knowing that we were going to beat Pittsburgh this year. And again, it exploded in the first quarter was, I guess, too much for the fans. So the shoppers were pretty much empty. Right before the game was over. Before the game, Well before the game was over. And then what happened? Well, there was this airplane flying around with advertised movies. Every once in a while, I would look up a seeming couple of guys and noticed he was flying fairly low. And in the fourth quarter, somewhere around a fourth quarter, he dipped a little low. I take a lot lower than a lot of our players heads were. And we went in the locker room and that's when we heard the plane had hit the stadium. So I saved a bunch of people alive by losing quickly in the first quarter, people leaving an airplane crashing. There was nobody for the plane to hit. Everybody was gone out. So you had a bad day protecting the end zone, but you had a good day protecting the fans that that I reluctantly say yes.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136833/file/253845#t=148.35,256.98"},{"id":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136833/file/253845/transcript/71666/annotation/3","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"Yes, I did. When did you start playing for the Colts? Well, it was in 1975. I had just come off a Super Bowl year with the Minnesota Vikings and a Vikings waved me and I was picked up by the Colts. And like I say, of course, we went to the playoffs because I think we ran off nine state victories. And we went to Pittsburgh that year, lost to Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh, and came back the next year with high expectations, high expectations that after then after that game in 76, you played 77. Yes, I did. I went to Los Angeles. I played with the Rams and Delaware. After that game, you got the heck out of Baltimore. I thank God I got the heck out of Baltimore. I think the fans had enough. They had enough. Did you get booed? I don't think I got booed. I take on more disappointment. What the high expectation. I was looking forward to coming back, playing and next year. But Coach Michael Bolton was coaching now with the Ravens. I decided it better that I go somewhere else. Well, are you going to the game? Any of the Ravens game? Yes, indeed. Matter of fact, we make an arrangement now to go to the opening game against the Raiders this year. Well, listen, if you're out in the stands. Jim Archer brought in knows you're there. That's what I do now at Baltimore Arena. So you say what? From hockey to Icy Vans Circus? That's right. We go from the band to the spirit on a soccer team. The band is there. Our hockey team. So if anything goes wrong out there with with the team playing that they can't blame you know they can't blame me on this one. They're saying, nope, if anything goes wrong, if the players say, Do you think you enjoy seeing the Ravens come to Baltimore? I firmly believe that the Ravens will make the playoffs this year. I'm looking forward to NFL football back alone. And you think the Ravens will make the playoffs? I noted extremely well as far as his coaching abilities. He will put the best possible players out there and give them a chance to win. And I cannot see them not making the playoffs well. All right. What, you want that dog? Is that your dog? Yeah. Yeah. Two of them. You. You're born and raised in New Orleans. That's correct. And came to Baltimore when I came to Baltimore in September of 1975 to play football, to play football for the Baltimore Colts. That's correct. I was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the second round in 1973 after having an all-American career at the University of Arizona. And on the Vikings, they come back to back Super Bowl teams. And the guy that I was playing in front of retained a job again. Well, let me ask you this. Yeah. Were you excited about being a coach? Not right off the bat, because coming from a Super Bowl, knowing that the Colts were two and 14. Now, remember Delaney Moore's the Johnny Unitas, the Raymond Various. That tradition was real good. Matter of fact, that bet that sent chills to my humor, you know, to my body. But to get out there and see the talent that we had, I said, look like I won't make it to the playoffs. And that's when I met Ted March and that's when I met Maxine Bowen. That's when I saw people like Stan White or, you know, Liddell Mitchem. And then when did you come back to Baltimore? Well, I came back to Baltimore six years ago, July 1991, in leaving the NFL in 80. I wasn't prepared to adjust to life and my hometown, New Orleans. I went back there in New Orleans for the holiday. For a person like me, it's called Mardi Gras. And I was feeling down the press being out of football and I got to drinking. And so what, you kept drinking for a while? I kept drinking from 1980 all the way up till July 1990 when I came up here for substance abuse to help me with my drinking, I thought. But actually was to to to get me back into the mainstream of life. So after. So after that game in 1980, you when you got a baseball, you got. I got to feel sorry for yourself. Took the drinking. And then in 1990, you came back to Baltimore looking for help. Looking for help. And I received help not only from the from the treatment center. I went to hopefully a number of people around here. And I'm realizing just how much the city of Baltimore and the fans of Baltimore love their football players. So you got that help and you got to, like, straighten your life out now. Yes. By the grace of God, I've stayed my life a little bit. And you're working down the arena, having a ball, having a wonderful time with the people down at the arena.
