The route I had to take from the front door to the truck this morning is like a was like a glacier last night. There is bad this morning and now you're getting ready to hear it. Want to go ahead and we'll do all the closings and we'll do my way in. I saw snow on top of ice and it was slippery than it has been for a while. But anyway, here come our closings. We have a long list for you, so you want to pay attention. And here we go. Plus, we're going from these big, heavy snowflakes to sleet to at times a little freezing rain, back to snow. It is a real mixed message this morning, but you've got a base of snow on the ground right now. And we will see additional accumulations throughout the course of this day. Some of the accumulation will be sleet, some of it will be freezing rain, some of it will be snow. Is there a line yet? The line is pretty much wherever you are at that given moment, whatever it is doing. Okay. So, yeah, it's it's it's it's really just one of those look, it's academic at this point. You know, things are closed, you know, the weather's lousy. We'll hit the big story which is traffic here for you shortly and traffic. I got news for you and many locations. You're going to be your own snowplow if you're leaving anytime soon. Frankly, I just go ahead and mentally write this day off if you can. If you can. Sure. Why not take a look at the forecast and that I don't Me? Why not? As in Marty sitting here saying goof off on work. But I mean, we just have some really truly lousy weather conditions right now in the area. Ice and snow in the region throughout this day. And we're going to see accumulations of both. Let's go ahead and take a look at some temperatures around the region. It's kind of academic. They are all right now, well below freezing. 21 in D.C., 22 degrees down in Richmond. We're looking at in general. Did you just pan over to your right real quick, Mickey, Pan over to your right real quick. Real quick. Just panty, right, Mr. George Goodman trying to fix my monitor this morning. Ladies and gentlemen, Mr. George Goodman. Don't worry about it. We're 4 or 5. Just leave right there. It's too loud. But you ain't made out of glass 14 in Harrisburg right now 24 And the overlook we got snowfall in the area right now. We're going to take a look at East Coast satellite. We are really trapped in the middle there. Once again, there's there's no real line established right now where you are. You may see it in 5 or 10 minutes, some sleet and freezing rain and some snow. Look at local radar. We are nowhere near the end of this weather event, like snow falling out to the northwest right now. Radar not picking it up all that well. But understand, we are really moist along the mid-Atlantic region this morning and this isn't going to go away anytime soon. We'll update the weather. You know, it's snowing. We'll update the closings. You know, there are many and we'll update traffic here shortly, Don. Actually, we'll. Traffic right now. Thank you. Here is our main man on the main roads, Chuck Whitacre, from our traffic team. At last, it's Friday, Chuck. No doubt about it, Don. Not too soon for me either. As a matter of fact, we're in bad shape around the area this morning. All the interstates are snow covered around the zone. We have some treacherous driving in spots. As Marty mentioned, you will be your own snow plow in. A lot of the spots are plows around working in tandem right now on all the interstates. I want everybody sitting right here, by the way. Thank you, Chuck. It is now 538 and we move off the main roads to the secondary streets and sidewalks. And once again, there's a warning. Although driving is not going to be a picnic either. Later today, plows are out, but so is most of the state salt supply. The city has enough for this storm, but state highways expected to run out before this storm is over. And Baltimore County is already out. It's treating streets with slag. That's an abrasive made from coal mining that will hit cars and traction, but it will do nothing about melting the ice. And right now, that is what's falling ice, Don. Okay. And we know Virginia has been fighting power problems for a while. What's the situation this morning? Well, there's some good news and some bad news. You mean the outside clean? No, I don't think it makes any difference at all. How about self-esteem wise or anything like that? The way it looks to me is it could get dirty again right away. So you say you're not someone who is a stickler for a clean cut. Actually, I'm not. I just had to clean before the snow came. And it's stayed this way. But does a clean car run better? Of course it does. The air flows off of it better. The. The aerodynamics of it is great. Of course it does. That's cool. You feel better? Absolutely. Sure. Sure. I feel much better in a clean car. Here's the conditions on the Beltway. The plows are working speed right now anywhere from 25 to about 35 on the beltway where they've knocked it down. You have a so a snow covering now on the major roadway portion of it. The bridges, overpasses and a lot of the ramps are still heavily snow covered, are going to have to watch and close to make the move to and from the interstate system. Again, it's one of those mornings that if you don't have to go to stay put for a while, but if you are making the move, at least once you get to the interstates where the plows are working, the speeds are not really too bad overall with caution. But currently, just right now, phase one only in Baltimore City and in Baltimore County, all the snow plans still in effect around the area. We have a salt truck involved in an accident in Anna Rundle County at Rice Road and Meade Village Road. And some of the roadways down to the south reported pretty tricky along 9597 Ritchie Highway and along Route 50, Capital Beltway reported very slick now both in Prince George's and in Montgomery County. And I'm sure that not only has to do with Baltimore conditions, but conditions up and down the East Coast. They got big hubs in Charlotte and Boston and Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh, Yeah. But if there's a snow rain line established, you can expect the bout of freezing rain that we're really concerned about to be not that far from the area. Right. And we'll be dealing with that anvil hanging over our heads here throughout the next 12 hours or so. Keep in mind, also, a lot of people are walking in the street. Yep. We're getting a lot of reports. Not so far yet because a lot of people aren't out. But yesterday during the day, we must have had 150 calls and people falling. Let's go and take a look at the forecast. Jump into the weather. We know that it is not a great day. Now here are the facts behind the accumulations. Ice and snow in the area. We've got we're calling it between 4 and 6in on the ground right now. And we're going to see more throughout the course of this day. It's going to be a chilly day when we go for a high of 28 degrees where it will concern more than a little concern. We're really watching this snow ray line because there is an ice band in there and we're almost sure we're going to get on just due to a different set of circumstances.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136340/file/252925#t=2530.43,2623.49"},{"id":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136340/file/252925/transcript/71108/annotation/29","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"Additional ice in the form of freezing rain as the storm pulls out and it's going to be cold, temperatures remaining steady right below freezing, the more cloudy skies, rain or drizzle tonight. We essentially have two sources of moisture right now combining to give us this day's weather event. High pressure up to the north, low pressure down to the south. Here's the airflow right into the area. We are getting a lot of moisture coming in off shore. And here is a source of moisture, of course, down to the southwest. Moving our way. It just really is a tough morning. We've had snow, we've had sleet, we've had freezing rain. And depending upon where you are, you could see those three changes within 15, 20 minutes. Been happening all morning long. Once again, expect additional accumulations this day. We'll touch on AccuWeather again here momentarily Don. Okay well we rundown the rush for you right now at our computer computer is Chuck Whitaker and our traffic team got your cut on Good Friday morning everybody if you decide to go and if you can make it to the interstates, the conditions are slowly improving, at least to the point that the roadways are drivable. The plows are doing a good job right now, at least on the main line. We're still hearing a lot of problems, though, as you try to move to and from the interstates on the bridges, overpasses and ramps because they're not getting as much treatment as the main line. They're holding traffic temporarily at the Old Harbor tunnel. That because of a broken down vehicle inside the tube. And they're also due. I just got a report there may be a stalled vehicle on the beltway in Parksville on the inner loop right around Reisterstown Road. Yeah, as opposed to the problems they had yesterday, which means it's snow, not ice at this point along the light rail line. Yeah. Soon as we get it on the wires, they can't do it. And here's your current radar right now. It's just going to be a tough day. Most important news is it's Friday, the Eagles flying day. Let's let's just hit the headline. And now the other story is the weather. And it's just going to be a slow, tough go. Let's check on the slick side streets. We have Alex Dietrich, of course, standing by at the Falls. And 41st, is it? That's right, Don. And there's plenty of fresh snow on the ground and plenty of fresh ice falling on top of it. We've been experiencing a steady and sometimes heavy pelting of sleep for the better part of two hours now. And that is not helping traction whether you're on foot or behind the wheel. Driving around this morning has been doable, especially on the main roads where ice from Wednesday storm has been cleared and the snow is providing some traction. But on sidewalks, lawns and side streets, there is a thick and very slippery layer of ice just beneath the snow. So take it easy and from personal experience, be very careful. We've already had some falls out here this morning ourselves and may also get a lot slicker on the roads as the day goes on. Plows are out, but salt supplies are extremely low. Baltimore County is already out of salt and is using a material called slag, which is a derivative of coal mining. Baltimore City is good on snow, on salt, but we understand the State Highways Administration says they are very low. They expect they fully expect to run out of salt before this storm is over. It's just sleet and some snow now fall back and forth, back and forth, back and forth. It's going to be one of those mornings being once again to the freezing rain. That could be a real problem later on this afternoon, because not only are you going to have problems on the roads and sidewalks, once we start dealing with power lines and limbs falling, it's going to really be a mess. All right. Let's go get another cup of coffee. That's all right. We'll talk in the next half hour. Yeah, we will. Of course, big news dealing with the power problems there, mostly to our south. While Governor Schaefer says he's had talks with Al Davis of the L.A. Raiders, Mayor Schmoke has been talking with Jim Sparrows of the Canadian Football League. The governor says forget that February 14th deadline we talked about. We've got a chance for an NFL team. But the mayor seems to have a different game plan unless he hears of a firm NFL deal. He says he's ready to sign on Monday for Canadian Football Memorial Stadium. Keep in mind, while this is going on, Jack Kent Cook still wants to move his Redskins to Laurel. Okay. All right. Just sort of. Sort of a neat logo. I really like it. Okay. I was in a you do a radio show of McCaffrey's on Monday night, and I was there last Monday night and managed to get a rather detailed press release. And what song coming to me was, you all have hired a head coach and this is not some sleeper. This is this is a guy who has been to the Canadian Super Bowl twice, won it once since 1983. He has been to the finals one, two, three, four, five, six times. You are very serious about this. Well, Marty, let me say about Don Matthews, he is probably he is a great coach. He's probably the best coach up in Canada, we consider anyway. And he's very knowledgeable. He's wide open. We were looking for someone who's going to bring back the excitement of the passing game that we used to have here in Baltimore with the Bert Jones, those kind of guys that were just great quarterbacks. And this guy brings that excitement back because he does the unexpected. So in other words, the analogy I'm going to make and it may not be a proper name analogy, you have hired like a Joe Gibbs equivalent. In other words, this man is putting his career on the line coming here. That's how seriously he believes in this franchise. No question he is going out on a limb with us under the assumption that we're going to be signing this lease this coming Tuesday, which we expect to do. Okay. Jim Spiros is also on the line. It's got a lot of history behind it. And the style of play and the athletes it attracts, as Tom was saying earlier, it's wide open style of play, which is very exciting for the fans. So we feel that it started in Canada and it's over 100 years old now. For the next hundred years we'll pick it up here in the United States and expand to somewhere between 10 to 12 teams in the US. And what cities already have franchise, what U.S. cities already have franchise Right now, Sacramento and Las Vegas already have franchises. It looks very favorable for us on Tuesday that we'll get a team and it looks like this year, either Orlando or Shreveport will be in within the next week also. So there's going to be four teams in the U.S., 4 in 1994. And there's some speculation that down the road before the year 2000. Course, you may end up with two leagues in the CFL, the American League, the Canadian League, and hence you would have a real international Super Bowl within this league. That's correct.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136340/file/252925#t=3845.29,3936.05"},{"id":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136340/file/252925/transcript/71108/annotation/43","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"The goal is to have the ten teams in the U.S. in the AFL division and ten teams in Canada in a CFL division under one umbrella called the North American League. Sounds great to me. Tom Eddie, join us again here. This is an amazing fact and I blew my mind when I heard it. How many people have committed to season tickets? Marty We have almost 25,000 people right now that lined up for tickets for season tickets, which is and we really haven't solicited. We played behind the scenes with this because we didn't want to really interfere with the NFL's efforts because the mayor has asked us to do that and we followed his guidelines. And but people are inquisitive. They want they want football back here. So we've been very, very fortunate. Marty, they have the people calling up and they put their name on a list. And we've got about 25,000 right now. Is that right, Jim? That is correct, Tom. How many home games there are going to be? What would a package be? Okay. The package is going to be to range anywhere from around $10 to for an end zone ticket, up to $25 for a sideline ticket. You can buy a season ticket pass for as low as $100 for the season and as high as $250 for a season. So it's very affordable. We're about to have half the price. The National Football League. How many games? How many home games? It'll be ten home games and it's a 20 game season. We'll also have the games televised so that we'll be able to cover the games. Yes, we have. Can you talk about that? You know, we we have the ESPN television contract for next year. But hopefully we're going to get a local affiliate to pick our games up locally and also televise away our away games. Don't know yet go over to which is also important to fans because ESPN are going to be able to watch some other teams play in this league this year. So they'll be able to not just watch Baltimore, but they'll also be able to watch a Sacramento, Calgary and some other games also. Okay. I need to ask a question. My stage manager, essentially the producer. You want to wrap this up and come back to this? Would you want to go for a couple more minutes, couple more questions, how you want to play it? Like, what do you want to do? Wrap it up at the gym case? You don't know. One more. Welcome back to Fast Questions. One, you play from July through November. There's some people saying summer football in Baltimore. How do you respond to that, either of you? Well, I guess I'll let me respond to that. First of all, we're going to adjust our schedule on how that we may play a Thursday night game or Friday night game early in the season. We're not going to come to play with baseball at all. So the no conflict whatsoever with that. And you think there's room in the entertainment budget of the city for both? Well, I think there is, especially because we have ten games, there's 81 baseball games. And what we're trying to do is make this family affordable. You know, how much how expensive it is to go to even the baseball games. Now we're trying to do is being able to get the family to come back, go to the football games, start that tradition that we had here before, and the Baltimore Colts and make it a winning tradition again. All right, Jim Speers, one last question, then We got to run. We're busy today, obviously, and we really appreciate both you guys getting them coming on the air. You know, we have Michael Lester just mentioned, the governor is mentioning Al Davis and maybe extending this deadline. The mayor is dealing with you all up front. How do you see this shaking down? And are you concerned about this extension of deadline and an NFL team maybe coming into the region? Well, again, we're we're certainly we feel that, number one, that we want to be here. And we've been told under some certain conditions that we will be here if an NFL team, it is signed by the 14th of February. And I can't control some of these political issues. But I think the governor knows and also the mayor that we can coexist. We're not we've taken all the risk ourselves to bring a football team here and play Memorial Stadium. So we have real football for 94. And if they want to continue with their NFL efforts or if they want to work with Jack and Cook and Law, whatever their agenda is, that does not really disturb what we're doing.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136340/file/252925#t=4108.189,4194.08"},{"id":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136340/file/252925/transcript/71108/annotation/46","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"We we we can coexist and we want to play football this year.
