There are three warning signs that suggest you could be an alcoholic and a doctor. Steinberg's opinion should seek help immediately. The first is loss of control. A person drinks and cannot accurately predict what will happen. The second is what we call compulsion and use. An overwhelming preponderance of the person's conscious thinking is devoted to alcohol, the pursuit of obtaining it, the use of it, and worrying about it. The third hallmark is adverse consequences. Bad things happen to a person because of the way they drink, and despite those consequences, the use persists.
