Very, very sunny out right now. Some stray showers moving through the area. Take a look at Sky. First warning, Radar actually took the first warning radar. We'll see that some showers moving across the Delmarva Peninsula just over the other side of the bay. You see just around eastern, just some sprinkles. Those will move on by. Some will burn most of that off, as you saw with the picture of Druid Hill, Lake George Hill Park and the lake right there in the middle. There. Really no showers in the city per se right now. And as we wake up, everyone reporting temperatures just around 70 degree, 73, actually, at the science center downtown, 88 is our expected high today, dropping only to about 66. Air quality is good to moderate. So it's just going to be a nice day to be out and about. We'll have a complete first morning forecast coming up in just about five minutes. All right. But now this. Here's this morning's top story. The president's legal team fires back at the Star report claiming it's filled with, quote, sex and lies. Lee Cowan has the latest. But again, a reminder about the graphic nature of the story. As the salacious details of Ken Starr's report to Congress sink in on Capitol Hill. They're using out on the Internet for everyone else to read. I think he's lost a lot of credibility in the world. I think he has lost his power to be able to lead us. And I think he should probably be replaced. That's exactly why the White House spent the wee hours of the morning preparing a detailed defense. Point by point, the president's legal team took issue with Ken Starr's characterization of impeachable offenses.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136468/file/253053#t=115.28,205.31"},{"id":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136468/file/253053/transcript/71179/annotation/3","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"In short, it concludes, quote, The document is at bottom overreaching in an extravagant effort to find a case where there is none. End quote. During a campaign swing in Oregon, Vice President Al Gore agreed, even as the polls showed a more mixed reaction from Americans. He didn't do anything to harm the government, the they harmed his family. Our image so harmed by lying to us that he didn't hurt the government. Since the first family's appearance just hours after the report was released, they haven't been seen. It was only the president's tired sounding voice on the radio trying to turn attention from his personal life to his official one. It's been an exhausting and difficult week in the Capitol, not only for me, but for many others. But as I told my Cabinet on Thursday, we cannot lose sight of our primary mission. Now, I think this president has decided that he is going to focus in on the problem of Americans that day to day problems. That's what got him here. And that's that's what that's what will keep him here. Those on the House Judiciary Committee are spending the weekend doing a lot of reading, not just of the public portion of Starr's report, but the thousands of pages of background material still under lock and key. We have a long way to go. There's an awful lot to read and to digest to put into perspective. I'm making an effort not to be leaping to conclusions until we have everything in context. Most on the Hill admit that they weren't necessarily surprised by the report. In fact, some Democrats say that they were pleasantly surprised that there wasn't more to it. The question.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136468/file/253053#t=206.24,301.58"},{"id":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136468/file/253053/transcript/71179/annotation/4","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"We count on CBS News, Capitol Hill. And you can be the judge for yourself about the star report. Read it. And the president's response on the WJC web site@www.wjc.com. That's right. And the special prosecutor is taking another look at those secret tapes he got from Columbia resident Linda Tripp. Starr is looking into whether some of the tapes were doctored. You may recall Linda Tripp handed over secretly taped conversations she had with Monica Lewinsky. In all, Star's office was given 27 tapes. Now he's questioning the reliability and authenticity of at least one of those recordings. There is concern the tapes were copied, and in the process, the recording was stopped and restarted. Tripp is not commenting on the report. Paula Jones has something to say about the Star Report. According to a spokesperson, she feels vindicated by the report. Paula Jones is the woman, you recall who filed a sexual harassment suit against the president, claiming he sexually harassed her when he was governor of Arkansas and she was a state worker. A federal judge dismissed that suit. Jones is now appealing. It almost goes without saying. The Star Report is going to be the main topic of discussion on all of the Sunday morning news shows. Everyone, it seems, has an opinion about the president and the report. You see it all over the newspapers, the TV and the Internet. Here's what some voters and Maryland politicians are saying. Most of my folks are firmly behind the president. People are disappointed. They don't approve of the president, but they believe that this is a personal matter. Speaking of politicians in the Star Report, by the way, members of the House Judiciary Committee are spending the weekend reading the report and reviewing whether or not there are grounds for impeachment. We're looking at 73 degrees right now in downtown Baltimore, 71 here in TV Hill, 88 by noon is our high, 66 at night. And our air quality is moderate. And this is how we'll get there. Basically, 73, as we said, downtown. Look at the temperatures right on around the beltway, pretty much around the state, rather. We'll look at the wide scope first, 68 in Hagerstown, 74, in Washington, 75. And Richmond is the warm spot as it usually is, 68 in Harrisburg. As we said, city downtown reporting mid 70s right about now, Wilmington at 68, Atlantic City and Ocean City both reporting 67. And now the closer look right around the Beltway, we see temperatures, everyone reporting right around the high 60s right now, Reisterstown, 67, khakis below 68, Bel Air, 68, Dundalk 67. Columbia is at 70 degrees and Annapolis at 70 degrees as well. This is what's going on. Pretty much high pressure dominating our forecast for the weekend, but there is still this little nagging string of showers that is just lingering over the area. Last night, we had showers. The night before, we had showers, just enough to bring some sprinkles. And you see this right on here, floating on out. Most of that moves by about mid-morning. But then they just we still could see some influence earlier or early in the week, rather, of this high or rather these high clouds coming in just over the Great Lakes. So right now, though, we expect today's forecast, a stray shower moving by in the am hours that will move by fairly quickly. Most of that will burn off. Not quite as warm as yesterday. Yesterday we got up to 92 degrees in downtown light breeze, though, and our high today only expected to go up to about 88. Very, very nice and fairly low humidity. And then tonight, partly cloudy. Look for it to be warm fairly early. I'll step out and let you see that it is going to be comfy later on this evening. And then light winds with a low of just about 66 degrees. I consider myself to be a very lucky person. I consider that Matthew was God's gift to me. I was very lucky to have been chosen as his mother. Today, the community of New Smyrna Beach dedicated these trees at Oakland Mills High School in Columbia in memory of Matthew and Vance. They were murdered for coming to the rescue of a woman being harassed by a group of men. The family still struggles with it. These are great food to choose when you're eating, right. But if preparing dried beans takes too much time, here's a shortcut. Instead of soaking the beans for hours, try this approach. Add a cup of dried beans to three cups of water. Bring the water to a boil. And after about two minutes of boiling. Turn off the heat. Let the beans sit in the heated water for an hour. Drain the water and rinse the beans. It's a shortcut to preparing a heart. Healthy, fiber rich food when you're eating, right. I'm Kelli Lin. Thank you, Kelly. And so joining us this morning, Rob Gonzales from the classic catering People is going to show us how to make one of those delicious Jewish desserts that everyone loves. Thanks for joining us this morning. Thank you. What are you making? We're making a pear bread this morning. And the nice thing about this is it not only works well for Russia-China, which will be the night time evening meal, you can serve this one with a little ice cream or cinnamon ice cream, but it works well for Yom Kippur as a continental breakfast item. You just buy that little wheel it like you don't have to use the weight. This is one of my little toys. But at this point, we go ahead and we put the pears on here. And you can use apples if you want or cherries. The almond cream acts as a nice base to keep it nice and moist. And what is that made out of? Butter? Sugar, eggs, almond flour and regular flour. And then flavoring. Okay. Can you find that recipe in most? The recipe actually will be in the Jewish Times, I believe, tomorrow. And then. Perfect. So if that helps anybody. Okay. And these are just canned pears, Campers? Only because I couldn't I would normally use poached fresh pears, but because we didn't have any that were fresh at the time and we're outside since ourselves. And so we're trying to make do. The pears are lined up. And then we lightly egg wash just to hold it down. What is egg wash again? It was for good eggs and milk or eggs and water, depending on what you want to do. Aimco MCO. A hit and run smear campaign. That's how President Clinton's lawyers are describing the Ken Starr report. It's been three days now since Starr released an explicit 445 page document alleging the president committed impeachable offenses concerning the Paula Jones lawsuit and his affair with Monica Lewinsky. CNN's John King has the latest. But we want to remind you again about the graphic nature of the story. The vice president attacks Ken Starr's case for impeachment as the White House launches a blistering counterattack on the independent counsel. I do not believe that this. Serves as the basis. Overturning the judgment of the American people in 1992 and again in 1996 that Bill Clinton should be their president. This White House response to Starr's report to Congress accuses the prosecutor of, quote, a hit and run smear campaign and says Starr included graphic sexual material in his report because, quote, its principal purpose is to damage the president. Many leading Republicans believe that Starr's perjury allegations alone are strong enough to warrant the next step, a formal impeachment inquiry. And even many Democrats see Mr. Clinton's sworn denials of a sexual relationship with Monica Lewinsky as a major problem for the president. Try to say that the president didn't lie under oath. At the same time, the president saying that he did is, to put it mildly, a bit of a conflict. Two key congressional sources tell CNN the official White House response falls short of the detail House Democrats were looking for. The president's lawyers also assert that, quote, the term sexual affair and sexual relationship are inherently ambiguous and when used without definition, cannot possibly amount to perjury. A Watergate committee veteran who met with the president Saturday says he does not believe Ken Starr's case meets the test for impeachment. It took a very situation of very poor judgment by the president and pumped it into a nickel and dime lurid sex story. I think that's all he had. He had no choice. He fired his best shot. It can't get worse than that. But it's not impeachable. The White House argues that after four years and some $40 million, all Ken Starr can prove is that the president cheated on his wife and lied about it. But even many Democrats believe the star report all but guarantees a congressional inquiry that would at a minimum, be highly embarrassing to the president. John King, CNN, the White House. Now, this weekend, members of the House Judiciary Committee are reading this star report, and you can read it as well simply by logging onto the WJC website at www.wjc.com. Well, the president apparently isn't the only one. Starr's investigating the independent counsels reportedly looking into the possibility that some of those secretly taped conversations that Linda Tripp had with Monica Lewinsky were doctored. A preliminary FBI investigation found signs that some tapes were copied. In one case, the recorder was allegedly stopped and then restarted again. Four other tapes were either inaudible or blank. So everyone is wondering what they should wear. And today we brought some models to show us some of the things that are in. And there's some main colors that are hot this season. Okay. So we want to talk about those. So let's start with the models. First we have Jean. And of course, Gray is a big, big collar for fall for women. And she's wearing a top that's combining two major colors for fall and that's black and gray. And of course, you have to be in tip top shape to wear this top because it's a Lycra top and it is very fitted and she's wearing the long skirt with it. The skirt lamps are really big this season. This is a longer skirt, of course, with the split in the front and the skirts are going to be extremely long, you're going to have cigaret skirts that are going to be in which are going to be just below the knee. And so there are a variety of lengths that's going to be hot this season. Okay. But skirts are a big thing. So you want to have at least 2 or 3 long skirts in your wardrobe. And of course, the chunkier platform shoe is still in. But also this season is the flat boot has come back and flats are back. So, you know, flats are going to be worn with the very long skirts. Gray okay. Thank you, Jane. And you're talking about the flapper and you're talking about, like almost needing knee high. Yeah. You remember the knee, the boot that came up. So brown is really big for men this small that's a must have that You must have either a brown sport coat or brown. Suit your wardrobe. And I had hoped that the three buttons would stay around for another season. It looks like they are. Yeah, they're still. That's. That's like the staple, right? The three button is your staple. But of course you've got to get a four button suit too. Yeah, I've got one. you have one today. I wish I'd known I would have done it. Okay, well, that's okay. All right. I'm going to look for it. It's a suit that you can wear with a little cami under it, or you can wear it just like she's wearing it single breasted and it has the short slim skirt. And of course, for fall, it's very important that your length can be short, it can be long. And again, the platform type heel is still in. I'll come with this as we take you to a very simple tour in how they do that. My name is Theodore Grown. I'm the brewmaster at the Baltimore Brewing Company. I'm going to tell you how we make the beer, and I'll place the four ingredients. Our water obviously has the most important ingredient because beer is, after all, more than 90% water. And then there's malted barley, which is barley that has been sprouted. These are two different types of malted barley that we use. The lighter one in my hand. This is a pale variety of malt.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136468/file/253053#t=3209.93,3307.74"},{"id":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136468/file/253053/transcript/71179/annotation/34","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"It will make somewhat of a pale ale beer, and that's normally the stable malt. So most of the malt use is a pale variety. Then if you want to make darker beers and bits that taste somewhat more, perhaps with a roasted flavor, then you can add a certain percentage of the dark, dark malt in my other hand, and I will give you that character. And these are kind of the two on the two opposite spectrums of color are these two malts. Then there's yeast and there's hops. And those are the only four ingredients that go into our beer. Hops is a vine like plants that after it, flowers sprouts out and like almost little artichoke like looking cones. And it adds bitterness to the beer. All the ingredients get mixed together in the brewhouse. After that, we strain out the solids of that. Then we boil the water with hops and after that it will be fermented with yeast. So yeast is actually responsible for the alcohol production in our plant. This is our log ring room. Log ring. Translated from German into maturation room. This is where all the beer matures. To be immature is here for about a month. Some beers longer up to three months. We keep the beer at about 30 to 33°F. From here we fill out our beer in kegs or we put it into a filter in order to bottle it later. This is our bottling room. Over there, you see where we put on the empty bottles. Then they run through this valve. They run through the label of first, and they follow along here. Go over to our spelling machine where the bottles get rinsed out. Hey, look, as I said, being outside the real summery feel to this weekend and we've got a couple more days of this, but it is September and we don't have all that many more of these warm days, I guess, before we get into autumn weather. And we just want them weather coming this way. Well, that's not all. No, that's nice. Yeah, that's one of the nicer times a year here. I think. So. Let's take a look outside. What's going on on this Sunday night down in the Jones Falls Expressway. A little bit of traffic coming out of the city. Folks winding up their summer weekend plans heading on north for the most part actually in sight. More traffic come in north and south, but it's a little harder to count the red lights, isn't it? So take a look from the satellite looking down. And what we see here, generally clear skies, although you could feel the humidity come up a little bit. And I think a little bit more haze perhaps tonight that we've had last night. Now, notice this area of cloudiness here, A bit of a weak frontal boundary to the north of us actually has produced a few very light sprinkles. One of them in southern Jersey. So so have you folks. Hey, up along these seats of county into, say, Delaware region may see a sprinkler or two during the overnight, but that's really not very much of a threat for most of us here in Baltimore.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136468/file/253053#t=4429.04,4510.67"},{"id":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136468/file/253053/transcript/71179/annotation/44","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"74 degrees. Arthur Monitor reading right now. And once again, it feels more summery because the humidity has come up a little bit. And around the region, temperatures otherwise low 70s up to the north, actually up or 60s down at Salisbury and 69 to 70 down along the ocean today, 88 degrees is our high temps. Remember 92 for Saturday. So we're just a little bit cooler today. But both of those numbers well above normal. Downtown at the Inner harbor, 86 degrees, a little cooler by the water down at the science center south. Winds on the bay fairly light, 3 to 10, less than one foot chop. And the water temperature at Thomas Point, 76 degrees. Now, here's the wider view satellite. A lot of this is moisture from Frances and it does look like that's going to stay well west of us. We could use the rain, but looks like no help at all from this. We've got a high pressure system pumping in summer like tropical humidity for us. But there's that stationary front we talked about. This is going to be the story for the next couple of days. But long about Wednesday, this frontal system swinging down out of the north will bring us a cooling trend. And by Thursday to Friday, we'll have temperatures that are normal to actually a bit below normal, potentially toward the end of the five day period. So tomorrow, look for another warm one, 90 degrees, perhaps maybe a few degrees warmer, really in the locked in city sections, upper 80s, otherwise mid 80s down at the shore for the rest of tonight. Then we've got mainly clear skies across the area. Again a little bit of haze here and there and a few clouds further well to the north.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136468/file/253053#t=4511.57,4596.71"},{"id":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136468/file/253053/transcript/71179/annotation/45","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"But it's definitely sort of warm for this time of year. Overnight low, about six degrees above normal at 66. And for Monday, start your workweek off with what's going to feel like summer. Sunshine, hazy, hot and humid with a high of 90 degrees. But on the five day, there's that transition that comes in as the front swings down from Canada, potentially kicking off a thunderstorm or some shower activity Wednesday, we could really use the rain. So we're hoping that does really materialize. But we get into some real nice autumn type weather Thursday to Friday, 80 high on Thursday, 78, high on Friday with lots of very nice sunshine.
