Now, if you just keep it down for me, I would appreciate it. If somebody comes in, they'll just come in and that's the way it goes. First off, your first name. It's the last spell for me. C e l s j e Higgins. Spell it. H i j j ince. It is pronounced Higgins. Right. And you? You are my teacher, right? All my little photographs I have. It says interests. And I say piano, gardening and total painting. People don't know what toll painting is. Not anymore. It's not called home painting anymore. Now it's called decorative painting. Why they change it? I thought Toll had a ring to it. Well, the thing of it is, it now it involves a whole lot more than just toll painting. Toll painting was a very primitive folk art style, where you did painted hearts and birds and fruit and flowers. That's me. Primitive. But now it involves a whole lot more. You. You paint on clothing. They're painting walls. They're doing everything. So decorative art is still. You find things to paint on. You get the paints out and just really create works of art. Almost anything nowadays. Sure. Furniture people go to yard sales and buy chairs and old tables and fix them up and paint them. And. And this is the method of painting that I teach is a wonderful method for people who can't draw or paint and who have always wanted to do it. So in other words, if you've never painted a picture in your life and always wanted to, you can't. You can't do it. I guarantee it when I hold it. Blessed that no age fat there is really going to pick up.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136837/file/253849#t=8.82,122.4"},{"id":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136837/file/253849/transcript/71665/annotation/2","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"So if you can keep it down, I really would appreciate that. Banging. Okay. Sorry. Just for a couple of minutes. Okay. Now, so if you if you if you if you're kind of a person who always wanted to paint, maybe even have watched those painters on television, said, I couldn't do that. You can't do that. I can do that. And for people who have never had hell depression or had, I've had people who come in here and said, I'm not going to be able to do it. And I I'll bet you $50 again. And I don't bet $50 off the top of my head. And they and they're so delighted. And I love teaching beginners because they are so tickled that they can sit down and paint finally pain. And it's a method way of doing it. Certain things that you do and this type of paintings, like everything else, there's all kind of little tricks to. It's not paint by numbers, though. No, not paint by numbers. So if you if you want to if you if you ever had an idea to give this, you shot somebody, you really ought to call somebody like Celeste Hagan's or look for an art shop like this. You know, there aren't too many art shops left anymore. They have I think the closest is Virginia and up in Lancaster. And this one here is located where it's over in a part old Severna Park. And it's been here for a long time. And the name is Studio Art. Fun and framing. That's a mouthful. Used to be called the Beehive, right? I know, but the original owner who had the beehive, she and her husband retired and it's also a frame shop. Besides that, you've I've seen some terrific Christmas ornaments that had been painted. Sure. You can paint anything your little heart desires. It's wonderful. It really is. And I've had I've had a couple of people who were in depression and the doctor told them to get a hobby and they started painting. Now they're like a different person. How many people would you say you've you've taught over the years? In 18 to 20 years, I couldn't begin to count. Norman Hundreds. Well, a more than 100, let's say that. Several hundred, probably a couple hundred people. A couple of thousand, maybe. No, I wouldn't go that far. Yeah. So you have passed along your skills to at least several hundred people, right, over the last 20 years. And a lot of people that I taught are now teaching. So when folks walk around, maybe even some of these crafts craft that shows that they have some of their work there. Right? They did by artist who you taught, right? That's true. And you're still doing a little painting here and there. You should pick it back up again. I may. Because as soon as I have some more time, I will. And I'm sure the time is near when I will have some more time eventually. Now, this type of painting is like everything else. There are little tricks to it, you know, There are little things that you do to enhance your painting. You know that everybody does it now. Then you learn all these old tricks and you teach them, right? We have. Are you expensive? Well, not really. It costs. I have nothing to do with the prices.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136837/file/253849#t=231.48,336.18"},{"id":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136837/file/253849/transcript/71665/annotation/4","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"The shop sets the prices and they are comparable to by anybody body else. So I'd have to ask her what it is. So is the whole thing. I mean, less than a hundred, maybe 100 and 125, something like. All right. But that includes your paint. That includes your brushes, and that includes what you're going to paint on. Plus for five weeks of trial. That's right. And we have a night class for people who work and we have a day class. And I started teaching a night class when the original owner had people who worked who wanted to do things. No one's teaching at night. So I started teaching at night for people who work because I was in that boat, I was working and a lot of things I wanted to do were taught in the daytime. So who should people call if they want to? They should call the shop studio art fund and framing and and get directions to come down and look around. And what's the number here? 06477 400 could change your artistic life. It changes your life. You became a nurse before I became a photographer. How long have you been painting? I guess 20, 22 years, maybe 23. I never really kept track of it. But did you always know you had a knack or a gift to paint? Well, my oldest brother and I, we used to sit down and we used to draw, you know, and paint with watercolors and things like that, because in those days it was mostly all painting. And when I started taking some classes, it was oil painting. Wasn't acrylics like it is now. And a lot of people have switched to acrylics because it's nontoxic. Your mom was an artist? Yes, she was. So you got your talent from her? Yeah. She started when she was eight years old. And she died when she was 92. Boy. You got good genes. Maybe I don't paint. There may be. So what was her name? Her name was Wanda Klein. That's Wanda. Okay. And so she kind of urged you to try to get you to paint during high school? Yeah, but I was interested in boys then. What an entertaining painting. I'm sure we will by now. Okay. All right. Well, the beginners have really taken off and everybody seems to enjoy it. And mostly everybody has never painted before, which is really good. So I know my daughter Frankie is having a good time. Yeah, she did real well. Yeah. Because this is very nice. And is that the beginners joint? Yeah. It's a round jar with a round lid on it. And there is a jar similar to it over there. Right there. And, you know, you can either jump in and come early. And I'll get you started. Or you can wait till September and just pray.
