We expect to get up to a 90 degree mark today with the possibility of some showers later in the afternoon. Tonight, we'll go back down to about 68 degrees. And as we said, the air quality is good to moderate and that's not too bad. So we'll also take a look at some tropical storm and some hurricane activity. But first, let's take a look at this hour's top story. It is a gruesome task for medics this morning as they must count the dead and injured after a horrible accident in Baltimore County. Take a look at the scene from last night on Roseville Boulevard in the Fullerton section of the county. It happened at about 10:00 this morning. We've learned that one person was killed and three other people, including a child, have some very serious injuries. Investigators continue to look into what may have caused the accident. Gunfire, a sound heard all too often at the village of tall trees. And this morning, people there are waking up after a very noisy night. Baltimore County police rushed to the apartment complex last night after reports of a shooting. Once on the scene, they found 23 year old William Simmons dead. Police say he was shot by a security guard at the complex. They say Simmons approached a group of guards asking for a ride. He reportedly got into their van and started a physical altercation with one of the guards. Officers say a guard fired one shot hitting the suspect in the arm, but apparently traveled to the man's chest and he died on the scene. The security guard was slightly injured, but no word on ever any charges and whether they'll be filed. Well, Baltimore City police also had a very busy night. They're investigating the murder of a teenager on Fenwick Avenue. The fatal shot was fired about midnight in East Baltimore. The victim was rushed to Johns Hopkins with a gunshot wound to the chest, but he did not survive. So far, officers haven't released the victim's identity or the names of any suspects. Police say they do know who pulled the trigger when a 13 year old White Marsh teenager was killed this week. But they say the shooting was unintentional. Nearly 100 firefighters tried to save what they could, but a five alarm blaze at an Anna Randall County storage facility proved to be too much. Investigators say a light ignited a Sofa at Storage USA last night. More than 30 units were destroyed. It took firefighters three hours to contain the blaze. People lost just about everything. Well, the news is not good this morning in the Orioles race for the wild card, but last night was still a night those fans will always remember with excitement when Cal Ripken smacked his seventh inning single. He became the Orioles all time hit leader, surpassing Brooks Robinson's record with 2849 hits. And the fans went wild. Ripken. Tonight. You know, it's a personal moment. They'll try to get back on track today against Cleveland. Game time, 115. Fortunately, unfortunately, rather, Boston won last night. So the birds are now eight games back in the wild card race. I wonder if there's ever been consideration of just renaming the team the Ripken's. You hold every title. You know, you were there every game. Why not just rename? It is the biggest draw in baseball. Right. Exactly. You're absolutely right. Well, hopefully when they they're doing their thing here, weather will cooperate. Bonnie lies over the ocean. Yeah. It's horrible. That is horrible. Just look at the even worse. Take a look right now at the temperatures around the region. We'll show you what we're talking about. 76 degrees in downtown Baltimore, 74 here on TV Hill. Look pretty much around the area. You'll see everyone waking up to temperatures. Pretty much a mixture, though, a mishmash of temperatures all around Ocean City and Atlantic City, both reporting 67 degrees. Saulsbury, 67 starts to get a little warmer as you move inland. Of course, Dover at 70, Wilmington at 72. Baltimore at 76. As we mentioned, 70 in Washington, 72 in Richmond. Those are usually the hot spots. Not the case today, but expect those temperatures will heat up fairly quickly as we head on up towards about 90 degrees today here, probably be closer to about 94 in Washington and Richmond, 70 in Glen Burnie, 68 in Annapolis is the reported temperature, 75 in Bel Air, Westminster 68. Hagerstown is also reporting 68 today and Mount Airy at 70, as is Columbia, 70 degrees. Give you an idea of what's going on. First off, let's take a look at Bonnie. Bonnie right now. Latitude is at 22.1, north longitude at 69.4 west, sustained winds and just about 75mph, gusting up to about 90 with a movement at just about west northwest at 70. Bonnie is three projected paths. Hopefully if the high pressure we're expecting to come in from Canada meets it and stands its ground, Bonnie could be pushed on out to sea. We'll have to take a close look at that later on and give you a basic idea later in the week. The other thing going on, of course, is Tropical Storm Charley in this Charley l e y. Tropical Storm Charley is just making landfall this morning, just southwest of Houston, right around the Corpus Christi area right now. Latitude is at 27.8. North longitude, 96.8 west. Sustained winds at 60, gusting to 70, with a movement towards the northwest to just about ten. Much needed rain in Texas, of course, you know, they've had temperatures reaching 100 degrees for, you know, 20 days at a time down there. So they need it. But this could be too much of a good thing. But Charley is expected to weaken because it has made landfall, won't be pulling too much power in from the water. That's a good thing. That will probably die out by this evening at some point. Take a look. If you're talking about how it affects us, really, it doesn't affect us at this point. But we'll keep you posted. We are expecting, though, some shower activity from these showers, as you can see, drifting in from Pennsylvania down to the south pump, probably causing some pop up showers just around the region. Can't rule it out at any point during today, but we're not expecting any kind of a washout for the weekend, just maybe some needed showers here and there. As you see them, they'll move on by and that will be the end of it.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136475/file/253059#t=672.43,758.35"},{"id":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136475/file/253059/transcript/71198/annotation/9","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"Partly cloudy and humid today if you're going down to the beach. With the president now back on Martha's Vineyard, the operation has taken on a different tone, but one that will soon be all the more ominous. A warning is expected to be published in an Arab newspaper said to be a message directly from known terrorist leader Osama bin Laden to the president. It will read the battle has not started yet. The response will be action, not words. For that very reason. Security officials all across the world are on pins and needles at airports and federal buildings all across the country. The atmosphere is as much offense as it is defense. The U.S. attack was clearly a provocation. The stakes are now higher. But the administration says it had no other choice. I am absolutely certain. That had we not done this, we would have been the victim of other terrorist attacks in the not too distant future. And this lucky person here is Stephanie, Stephanie Yates. And Stephanie is our victim. But what a lucky victim to be. Man, I tell you, you get to be the victim of a shiatsu massage. Michael, tell us first off, about shiatsu massage and what it is. Well, shiatsu is a form of oriental bodywork that's based on the same Chinese medical theory as acupuncture. It's less known than acupuncture, but one of its advantages is doesn't use needles. Okay? It's done. Done through touch. Okay. Now, there are certain certain key words. We always hear meridians. Tell us about meridians and what that actually means. Well, in Chinese medical theory, the meridians refer to the pathways of energy flow through the body. When our energies flowing freely, then there's no illness and no stress. Okay. So we use the meridians to restore the free flow of life. Energy. Okay. So the key to the massage basically is to open up those meridian them to get the energy moving. Okay. Well, you talked about some key points, things that people can actually learn. Teach us a little about how you do this. Okay. Well, there are some really easy points to use around the head for for most headaches. One point is just at the base of the skull and just on the side of the neck. And you can just press in there with a comfortable amount of pressure. And this helps to open up the energy flow and the back of the neck and the head.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136475/file/253059#t=2455.21,2547.94"},{"id":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136475/file/253059/transcript/71198/annotation/27","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"And that point alone sometimes can release a headache. Okay. Now, we can't see exactly where your fingers are. These use just your thumb. You can if you're doing this to yourself, you could just reach back and put your own thumbs inside that little depression at the base of the skull and just kind of rest your head back and your thumbs and it feels good. Great. Okay. Now, you talked about relieving headaches and the pressure that would do that. Yep. So tension, headaches and you just feeling a little stressed? And you can do that to yourself? Yes. That's something you can do to yourself very easily. Okay. I see you needing shoulders here. What's going on there? Well, I'm just working some of the meridian lines through the shoulders here, which helps to open up the upper back and the shoulders, the neck and the head. Now, this looks like almost like you just pressing. It's a very gentle, rhythmic pressure. One misconception about shiatsu is that it's painful. It's not. It's very gentle. And the one advantage about shiatsu that's different from other forms of massage is that you remain fully clothed during a schedule. So right now, so is it primarily focused on shoulders head? I mean, what do you do with your back? How does a full shiatsu session is full body use? It's usually done with a person lying on a futon on the floor. From head to toe, it takes about an hour and is gentle touch with pressure. Right. Right. You don't have to be very strong to do it. Although you look like you're pressing pretty hard, right? Let me show you what's going on. Hurricane Bonnie and it is a full fledged hurricane at this point is just bearing down on the Bahama Islands. You can see it right here just above Hispaniola. That's Dominican Republic and Haiti right here. And Bonnie right here is threatening right now only a few of the very small islands in the Bahamas. But it's position for the record, 23.3 degrees north latitude, 71.0 degrees west longitude. But it is moving and it's moving in a west northwest direction, about 13 miles an hour. And over the next 24 to 36 hours, this will be very crucial to see whether it's going to have an impact on the east coast of the United States. And if it does, whether, in fact that plays into our forecast. Right now, it's sporting winds of 90 miles an hour. It is expected to intensify. In fact, expected to be up to 115 miles an hour for sustained winds by this time tomorrow. And as it gradually picks up strength, that direction again is critical. Right now, the best bet is that it will veer along the coast and actually stay off of Cape Hatteras. But these things are particularly unpredictable in that sense. And there's a likelihood that it could end up on northern Florida. There's a likelihood that it could, in fact, end up veering north. And again, the next 24 to 36 hours will be very pivotal in telling us just what it's going to be doing. No serious injuries after their plane crash landed right here in the Chesapeake Bay. We were standing on the second floor balcony of a friend's house and heard a plane taking off. And as we looked off to the side, it was quite obvious that something was not right. The plane was far too low, was hardly off the ground. And that is it got over the water is belly flop spun out and this huge splash. Two of the passengers had no scratches. Luckily, one person had a pretty good bump on the forehead. And this eyewitness says he and her friend tried to rescue the three passengers on board the aircraft just after it crashed, landed into the shallow water just a few yards offshore. It was a single engine, four passenger mooney aircraft. It was occupied by a pilot and two passengers. The plane began to lose power as we near the end of the runway and we couldn't stop. The plane went about a hundred yards out into the water and immediately began to swing. State police say the three people on board the plane suffered minor injuries and refused treatment. For now, the plane will stay in the water until the FAA arrives at the scene tomorrow to investigate the cause of the crash. Residents of Miami, Florida, are preparing for the worst. Hurricane Bonnie is packing winds of 90 miles an hour. People are stocking up on groceries and putting together their hurricane kits, which include plywood for boarding up windows, water and batteries and camping gear. There's no sign of the storm, but the motto is better safe than sorry. So far, there's no sign of the storm from the vantage point of Miami. What we are seeing and we'll show you the latest thing on our satellite view and the updated 11:00 conditions which just came in. Have the winds not at 90 miles an hour, but at 105 miles an hour or so. It's getting worse right at 8:00 tonight. That report was 90 miles an hour ago. 5:00 was 90 miles an hour. 8:00 was 95 miles an hour, 11:00, 105. So, yeah, things are changing. This is getting to be a pretty sizable storm out there. We'll be landfall. Well, we're not convinced of that yet. I mean, that's the big if right now. If there is landfall, it's going to be it could cause some problems, but it may still make that turn to the north.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136475/file/253059#t=6079.42,6222.46"},{"id":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136475/file/253059/transcript/71198/annotation/60","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"So let's go ahead and look at the satellite view. I'll show you what's going on with that right now. There it is right in the middle of your screen. And Bonnie, right now, you can see the cloud mass right north of the island of Hispaniola. That's the island. It contains Haiti on the east, Dominican Republic on the west. And it's just now near some of the lesser Bahama Islands. It's about 195 miles south, south east of San Salvador. If that makes any sense to you. But there are the lesser Bahama Islands here. It's official coordinates as of 11:00, 23.6 degrees north, 71.5 degrees west. But the winds right now or it's moving actually, its motion has slowed down a bit over the last six hours. West northwest right now having dropped from 13 miles an hour down to nine miles an hour. But the wind speeds around this have picked up from 95 at 8:00 to 105. Now at our 11:00 report. The size of the hurricane force winds around this, that's also fairly notable. The diameter of hurricane force winds is about 90 miles now. So that's a pretty sizable storm system if we look at it from a little bit different vantage point, we can take the closer view of the North American map. And here you can see right down to the edge of the screen here, right behind our 13 logo. That is Bonnie right there. And this is the projected track right now. Best bet. And these things are very difficult to get a real good fix on. But the best bet right now is it will follow a track that will have it hugging the coast.
