About 29 years before Sir Edmund Hillary did, Mallory and his companion disappeared to the mountain back in 1924. The expedition climbers are looking for evidence to reach the top, hoping to find a camera, let's say, loaded with film that may still be intact after 65 years in subzero temperatures and a couple of whooping cranes turn the tides on their dwindling population. They are the first first whooping cranes to produce eggs in the U.S. in more than 100 years. The bad news is the eggs in Kissimmee, Florida, have disappeared. He does confirm, however, that there are more than 1200 leads they are pursuing and more than 8000 pieces of evidence, 8 to 10,000 pieces of evidence being examined by technicians. It's estimated that 4 million Americans are infected with hepatitis C, but many of them don't even know it. Dr. Dave Naidu has more this morning from our Denver station, KCNC. Good morning, Dave. Good morning, Jane. Hepatitis C is a liver disease that spread primarily through contaminated blood or blood products. Undetected, it can cause liver failure and even death. It's estimated that hepatitis C kills about 8 to 10,000 people each year, and that's a number that's expected to double or triple over the next decade. The most common symptom is fatigue, although some people may experience flu like symptoms such as a loss of appetite, nausea, fever and weakness. However, the only sure way to know if you're infected is through a blood test. Last week, the FDA approved the first at home test for hepatitis C. It is a product of home health access. It's a company that combines confidential telephone counseling with their test kit. Here's how it all works. To collect a blood sample first and clean your fingertip. Use the safety lancet to draw a fluid few drops of blood. Then you place the drops on a special sample collection card. The sample is and mailed to a certified lab, and your results are available by phone within ten days. The kit will be available through the company's website in June and drugstores in September. It all costs about $70. Jen, who is best served by this day? Well, Jean, we're actually targeting primarily four groups, those who had a blood transfusion before 1991. In mass marketing of the new Star Wars movie is now officially underway. And if the experts are right, sales are going to be, well, galactic. Now, before the year is out, they are expecting to take in more than $1 billion in toys, games and clothing sales. It all started here last night as people and fans of the force started lining up outside toy stores all across the country anxiously waiting to get their first crack at all. The new Star Wars stuff, which would go on sale at midnight. This was the scene of that famous horse toy store in Manhattan where more than 1500 people, tourists and locals lined up to go shopping in the middle of the night. I have an eight year old, a six year old nephew and a four year old daughter. And I'm going to buy it for them and save the receipt. I think it's exciting. I'm a huge Star Wars fan. Can't believe that this is happening to us while we're here. This is awesome. And what about tomorrow's business meeting? You know what? I'm just going to have to wait. We're just going to have to sleep through it because we are excited to be here and we're going to be here all night buying toys. You feel a little foolish standing outside a toy store, midnight, waiting to get toys to relay you, but it's better than sitting in a bar. When the doors open just a few minutes after midnight, the first eager shoppers entered the store to a round of applause and headed up the escalator to the Star Wars boutique, racing around from one display to another. It's a very anxious and emotional back to school day for the nearly 2000 Columbine students who this afternoon travel a few extra miles to attend Chatfield High. So Columbine students will finish out the year at a high school two miles away with their classes starting after lunch. After Chatfield High School students attend morning sessions. So, you know, I'd love to tell you to do the all clear on the pollen, but it's just not to be. First warning radar, we're listening to the west side. Here you go. We're looking up the 95 corner. Here's a subsequent Hanna River. Look it up near up, near. Have a degree near the ground, As a matter of fact, just blast. Here. We have the top and we're all right. I have 95 total over that area. His first warning rate on the wide scale. These are the whole range. And there you go. And, you know, it's just, gosh almighty. We we had hoped we had hoped we had hoped we were here Friday talking about the weather. We were dealing with, you know, sunshine first few days of maybe 80 degrees. Wrong, just wasn't meant to be an area of low pressure formed offshore. And it is kicking in cool, damp air, which is damming up against the mountains. If you go to the other side of the mountains, sunny in the 80s. But we just we were just filling up this entire basin like a kids pool with cool, damp air. There they are right there. This basin is just really the problem. We're just stacking up and it looks like it's going to be this way tonight, maybe into tomorrow. Just all depends upon when this low is going to get its act together and move on out, believe it or not, is stalled. Fortunately, weather out to the west to stall this big ridge of high pressure. There was more of an attack out there than anything else. A gentleman ran on the field in a not so friendly exchange is a protester, attacks one of the umpires and baseball turns into a base brawl. But all the action was not on the field. Hundreds of pro and anti Cuban protesters converge on Camden Yards. It is all part of the Eyewitness News Live team coverage, the Orioles versus Cuba. Hello, everybody. I'm Denise Coke. And I'm Vicki Carter. Here's what people are talking about tonight. Quite a different game, quite a different event from what we saw when the Orioles were in Cuba. First of all, the score, the bad news, I guess 6 to 3 in favor of Cuba right now. The game is still going on. Lots of people still falling out of the stands right now. All afternoon, there's been a great deal of concern. There's been a great deal of protest, as we've seen out here. But this game has been marred somewhat by a couple of incidents that happen on the field. Let's take a look at what happened just a few minutes ago. One out top of the field, a fan ran onto the field carrying a sign that read Freedom strikeout with Cuba. Cuban umpire Cesar Valdez tackled a protester. The man was taken into custody, was escorted from the field. Throughout this game, a total of four people ran onto the field during the game.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136235/file/252783#t=5365.44,5462.74"},{"id":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136235/file/252783/transcript/71054/annotation/51","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"But this was the most dramatic video of the incident that occurred here this evening. Absolutely, Vic, And I'll tell you, those fans that didn't get driven out by the rain, they certainly were a spirited crowd, as you can see behind us here. And you know, why not? They were watching history unfold tonight. A bit of Cuban smoke, Cuban spirit at Camden Yards. It looks like you've got Cuban spirit. Mark, you missed my turn. By nightfall, puddles on the ground, protest signs by the turnstiles. Some protesters have their signs taken away at the door. It's not even though you're saying that you're not supposed to do that. Back now live at Camden Yards. You can see there there are just a few protesters left. Probably about 50 out of a group of maybe 3 or 400 who were here earlier. And curiously enough, a lot of these people were from Baltimore. A large contingent from New Jersey and also a large contingent from Miami, very vocal earlier. They sort of dwindled once the rains came. Okay. Mike Shu, thank you for the live report. Of course, one of the reasons that this whole situation didn't get out of hand because there was a very high police presence here today. The city police want to say exactly how many officers they had on duty here for tonight's game. But they do tell us that security is similar to when the pope came to town. Sky chopper 13 spotted police on foot, on horseback, on motorcycles. Even sharpshooters were poised on the roof. It could move ten feet without seeing an officer. While tonight's game is historic, it is not the first time Cuban baseball has been played in Baltimore. Earlier this afternoon, Eyewitness News showed you Cuban Little Leaguers teaming up with players from Baltimore's Youth League for a game at Gilman. The boys may speak different languages, but they all understood sportsmanship and teamwork. They played together on teams. Well, imagine the excitement of the boys who got to see history made not just once, but twice, but go back to back for more of Eyewitness News, live team coverage of this historic night. The kids from Saint Ignatius will never forget their trip to Cuba. As Glenn can tell you say. Right, Glenn? That's right. You had a good time? Yeah. And now that the Cuban national team is here in Baltimore, it brings back a lot of fond memories. I was hot, but I was mad because the people there were treated left birds even though we didn't know. All right. So the students went to Cuba. Now, the Cuban national team has come to Baltimore, so the trip is over. But the memories live on, the experience invaluable. And we talked to some of the kids who actually played baseball with Cuban kids today. In tonight's Eyewitness News, Health Watch If you have allergies, here's an alert. Pollen is on a rampage this spring. Doctors say any pollen count above 100 brings misery to allergy sufferers. As you saw earlier today and eyewitnesses, the pollen count for trees today was above 1000. Tonight's rain did bring some relief. But of course, the question is how long, how long will it keep raining and how long will they give us some heavier rain to wash it out of the air? It was spotted yesterday, rain in the ballpark and probably in your neighborhood, but not everywhere. So it didn't help the whole situation. I'm sure a podcast tomorrow will be less than the worst day. I'm sure I would have seen a little batch of rain up by Fredrick that about maybe about three hours ago was a little heavier batch of rain that zipped right from Philadelphia through Bel Air and the Baltimore area. And it kind of stuck there for about 45 minutes. That's what's left of it, rotating in from New York and from New Jersey. And that's what's going to continue to take a look the middle out of great. First, take a look at temperatures around the area. Fifty's pretty much that's where we're stuck and probably be there for a while. A little warmer. Here's a preset. It's coming in from the north, from the northeast, around a huge low pressure system east of L.A. City. It'll continue to do that tonight, probably into tomorrow evening. Still a risk of a couple of periods of light showers. And there it is. This was way down here over the weekend and it went up the coast and expanded. And instead of moving out, as we thought it would, giving us the 80 degree temperatures that were in Ohio today, we got stuck with this ocean air. And that's what messed up our forecast for today. Eyewitness news coverage of tonight's historic moment in Baltimore. History continues now. We're live at Camden Yards because more on the Orioles versus Cuba game. Vic Hayden, an ace, of course, tonight is a match. It was an historical game and a lot of people wanted a piece of history. They wanted to take something away from this game that they can remember tonight. But to give you an example, these baseballs right here, there were 1501 store, now just one store. They sold 1500 of these baseballs. They had the logo on it for the Orioles and the flag for Cuba. They sold 1500 of them in about 20 minutes. They sold 2000 shirts, 600 pins, 1500 buttons. All the caps were out of there by the time that we got around to the store. So the matter of fact, we're taking orders for some of these items. So the people wanted to come back and get them later on. They would have at least a piece of history to remember to buy. Back to you. All right. And he's got a ball. He's one of the 1500 that got one. That's right. We're going to take a bet as to which happens. First. This game ends and the Preakness gets run. I mean, you know, this thing, this thing just may keep going. You know, they're seven. Wow. Seven and nine rain coming out. Another rain delayed. Do good. All right. Good. That's what you said.
