You know about gays, you can't let them into your church. You know what we say, you know how we prejudge people? We say, there's no room for them here. because a church is just for the same. They can't be saved. I thought church was for sale. And we're all sinners. But I'm not through yet. I'm not through yet. It's got quiet up in here. Let us look at, now let us look at this particular count of Genesis, you know Israelite tradition was unanimous. Let us, see you gotta be very careful of a very fundamentalistic interpretation of scripture or you'll get yourself in trouble, just like if you have a very fundamentalistic interpretation of the law. You're going to get folks in trouble. You see, because when you start getting fundamentalist, you're going to have to judge everybody. Not just one person, you see? You see what I'm saying? When we narrow in on the law, the more we narrow in on a law, the more people have to be considered. You got to deal with more folk. You got to deal with everybody. So if you center in on a Judge Hastings, you got to center in on all the judges. Y'all don't hear me this morning anyhow, but that's all right. But I was stating that Israelite tradition was unanimous in assessing the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. In other words, we all know that it was destroyed. But one thing we are not sure of is due to tradition, that tradition varies in regards to the nature of the wickedness of Sodom and Gomorrah. Now if you look at your scriptures, if you have your pens and pencils, or if you buy a transcript, you'll have this in there already. Now according to the present account of Genesis chapter 19, which comes from the Yahwist tradition, there are four traditions that are in the first five books of the Bible called the Pentateuch, namely Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy, there are five books, the Pentateuch, there are four traditions, the Yahwist, the Eloist, the priestly, and the Deuteronomic. And it depends on which particular tradition you're using as to how you interpret a passage. But in the Yahwist tradition of which Genesis chapter 18 comes from, we know that according to this account, the sin of Sodom was homosexuality. However, if you read the book of the prophet Isaiah chapter 1 verse 9 and following as well as chapter 3 verse 9, you read that the sin of Sodom was not homosexuality but it was a lack of social justice. And if you read further and look at Ezekiel, chapter 16, verses 46 through 51, you'll find out that the sin for which Sodom was condemned by fire and brimstone was not homosexuality. It was a disregard for the poor. And then if you go a little further, and if you look at Jeremiah, chapter 23, verse 14, the sin was not homosexuality, it was general immorality. What I'm saying here is that when we start pointing fingers... about Sodom and Gomorrah. Let us realize. that there are no degrees as to condemnation. Because while we're out there trying to condemn the homosexuals, let us also condemn those who do not do justice when it comes to the poor. Let us also condemn those who are not about social justice. Let us condemn those who will not provide housing for the homeless and shelter for those who have gone astray. Let us talk about those who have imprisoned persons unjustly. And let us realize that There are not different degrees of hell, nor are there different degrees of heaven. That since there is so much bad in the best of us, and so much good in the worst of us, that it behooves none of us to talk about the rest of us. And then we... And that we as Christians have to be broad-minded in our thinking to realize that we never know what God will do in a grace-filled moment to work with any of us no matter what be our sin. See the problem with church folk I can't talk about anybody else because I only know about church folk. But you see the problem with church folk is, is that they're always trying to remove the splinter out of somebody else's eye and don't even see the side of a house in their own eye. They're always trying to clean up somebody else. That's the same thing with our country. Always trying to clean up somebody else's backyard. The United States better get out of some of these other countries and they're trying to clean them up. They better get here and clean up their own act in this country. Y'all don't hear what I'm talking about. The president, the president going over there in Poland and trying to tell those folks how to run their country. The president is going to all over Europe trying to tell people how to run their country. He better get on back here in the United States and tell them how to run this country so that we don't have people who are hungry and starving and on bread lines. It's amazing that whenever we're trying to take care of somebody else's problem, it deters us from dealing with our own. And I love the president just like y'all do. And if he invites me to the White House for one of those state dinners, I'm going. But the point is. But the point is... But the point is, I'll tell the president, I don't take my orders from any court of law. I take my orders from headquarters. That's all right with me. The point is, the point is this. The point is this, we can still speak the truth in love. The president and I don't agree on everything. Some things we do, some things we don't. But that does not mean that we have to be less truthful because we're trying to get something, we're trying to get a favor. Thanks for watching! and therefore we compromise the truth. He'll invite me to the White House more times because at least I'll tell him like a T-I-S-E is and not tell him stuff that he doesn't need to hear. That's the problem with too many of us. We are politicians and not practitioners. We talk that talk, but we don't walk that walk. But anyhow, I got to get back to Sodom and Gomorrah. The whole point was... Y'all done forgot all about Sodom and Gomorrah already. The point is, is that the Lord realized that he was dealing with sinners in many different categories. We're all sinners. Let us never forget that. Each one of us is a sinner, and all of us have skeletons. Thanks for watching! in our closets. And all I got to tell you, don't you be in there trying to find out what skeletons are in my closet unless some jumps out and grabs you. You can't take it. No, the point is we can have fun, can't we? We can, we're holistic, so we can inject humor even in the context of the sermon. The point is that we're all sinners. We've all fallen short of the glory of God. That's why we've got to be a praying people. That's why we've got to constantly stay on our needs and ask the Lord to speak to us what we need to be about, what we need to be doing. You see, the Lord has been dealing with nothing but sinners since creation. He was dealing with sinners not only in Sodom and Gomorrah, but He was dealing with sinners in Noah's time. You know what I'm talking about, Sister Johnson, those sinners back there in that day? We're eating and drinking and committing all kinds of licentiousness, all kinds of immorality, adultery, or fornification, as we love to say. Not fornication. It's fornication, but we like to say, we like to add something to it. Fornification. Makes it sound juicier, doesn't it? Fornification. And we get so, we get so, we get so, that's what they were doing in Noah's day and the Lord had to destroy the world by a flood, by deluge. And even remember Nineveh, when the Lord sent Jonah into Nineveh and the people were sinning and Jonah went there, that was the first great revival. Well, it wasn't the first great revival because I guess the first one was in Ezekiel chapter 37 with those valley of dry bones. That was the first great revival. But remember, in Jonah's time, people were sitting there and the Lord sent Jonah there to reform it. The Lord hasn't been dealing with anyone but sinners all of his days. Created us in his image and likeness, but he's still dealing with all of us as sinners. But one thing I know is that while we may be sinners, while we all may have fallen short of the glory of God, and while we need intercessory prayer to get our houses in order, that's why we need one another. That's why we've got to constantly pray for one another. That's why we've got to be constantly interceding for one another before the Lord, because we're all sinners. And that's why this is a church for sinners who are called to be saints. That's why this is a church for everyone who is seeking to commit himself or herself to the Lord Jesus, knowing that the Lord can accept us just as we are. You know, I've been encouraged in these days. nor in the fact that we're all sinners, and even how sinners will try to pull down other sinners. I'm encouraged in these days. Knowing that all of us are saved by grace I'm encouraged during these days church when people talk about us and try to backstab us and say all kinds of Slanderous things account of the name that we stand up for I'm encouraged church in these days Knowing that since we're nothing but sinners and that God has tried over and over and over again to woo us back to him That he would send us his son Jesus. I'm so glad for Jesus Christ Even though he came to show us the ways of the Fagans, we know what the people of his time did. They hung him high. They stretched him wide. He hung his head for you and me die. We say that's love. But I'm so glad that God sent his only son because somehow the Lord says I've got to send the very best to get those folks on the right track. I've got to send my son so that Church folk will know that they can't exclude anybody when they want to. I'm glad I'm sending my son so the church folk can know that the church is for the homeless as well as those who have homes. I'm so glad that Jesus sent, I'm so glad that God sent me.
text/plain
https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/144808/file/267674#t=67.19,803.0
https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/144808/file/267674/transcript/77512/annotation/7
Speaker 2: us in Jesus Christ so that we as church folk can know that if it had not been for that sacrificial act on Calvary we still be locked in sin and have our foot in the grave I'm so glad that God sent his son, Jesus Christ, so that when people start talking about me and try to pull me down and try to defame my name, I don't have to run to anybody that wears a pair of pants or a dress or cool locks or whatever they got on.
