You've gotta be kidding me. This weekend. Skyline Chopper 13 helps make Eyewitness News Baltimore's favorite news team. A quick moving cold front causes some major damage to cars out there. What's the forecast for today if this morning weather is coming up? Also, the Senate takes its final vote in the impeachment trial of President Clinton. We'll have the story. But first, Eyewitness News is live at the auto show. Good morning, Brenda. Good morning, everyone. I'm Brandi Carlile live at Simonian where the International Auto Show will bring car buyers. Several models from the year 2000. I'll have details up next on WJC Eyewitness News live from WJC 13. You've got Baltimore's people of new steel now. Eyewitness to. And. Hi, everybody. Good morning. It's 8:00. I'm Katie Larson. And I'm Tim Williams. It is February 13th and 31 degrees outside. You cannot say enough. What a difference a day makes. Time. Yesterday we got up to what almost felt like summer. It got to 73 degrees yesterday after. So what was in the flight? Flies in the studio. You would think it's summer. You think it's a picnic time. We'll just kind of walk you right in through this. Take a look outside right now. We'll start off with what's going on. Gorgeous day. Much better than what we thought it was going to be. We had expected a nasty day out. We had expected some snow showers in the forecast. Those have pretty much stayed out west. Ohio's gotten 3 or 4in overnight, but we didn't get any of that really. Maybe to the west we got some flurries. But take a look at this graphic. This kind of explains it all. About 2:00 yesterday, it was about 73 degrees as the temperature started to drop in just about, say eight hours or so.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136487/file/253070#t=2.21,106.68"},{"id":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136487/file/253070/transcript/71208/annotation/2","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"Temperature nosedive, nearly 40 degrees. By 10:00 last night, it had dipped down to just about 36 degrees. You wonder why so many people are sick. Take a look at first warning radar, though. As you can see, no precipitation in the area. The showers and the snow activity we thought was going to move in from the west never got here. Certainly some some shower activity towards the far west, Cumberland and Allegheny. Hagerstown saw a little flurry activity, but nothing really sticking on the ground. And with that said, just know that the weekend is shaping up to be very, very nice, especially considering what we thought it was going to be. Still brisk. They're going to be some wind chills to deal with, but we're right around freezing right now, 32 here on TV Hill, as is downtown. 42 is our forecast high today, so substantially colder than yesterday, but still nice. And what we'd expect for this time of year. Possibility of some flurries tonight as we drop down to 24. Can't rule it out until this shower activity and all this low pressure moves completely off the coast. But it's just going to be nice, just biting. We'll say it's biting today, but certainly a difference than yesterday. Much of a difference. And of course, we have a complete first warning forecast in just about six minutes. All right. But first, let's take a look at some of the stories that people are talking about this morning. Well, some of us are going to be spending the Saturday morning cleaning up. As Tim mentioned, those wild weather storms brought high winds, rain and damage to Baltimore. Dennis Edwards reports on a fast moving front and the big mess. I got out, my shot ran, and I told my wife, there is a real dog behind it. So right up I got out there. The wind got up and everything in motion. I got in the house. The things they woke up just fell right down. This huge but unhealthy tree couldn't take the wind and promptly fell on to two cars in the 2300 block of Mount Royal Terrace. It crushed the closest compact, then stretched across the street and did the same thing to another car parked on the other side. The impact was severe enough to smash through the front hood, break a tire from the axle, destroy the trunk of the other car and smash windows. Damage to both cars is substantial, but the good thing is nobody was inside either one when this big tree fell. Public works crews quickly cut the tree in pieces and took the wood away. But fixing these cars won't be so easy. Luckily, George Hayes parked his truck just out of harm's way. I said, Lord, I screwed up. I had to pull up any problem. It would have been mine. Dennis Edwards, WJC Eyewitness News. You're the lucky guy. Well, lucky for us, this cold front moved through our area very quickly. As you know, when the temperature drops and storms threaten. Stick with Eyewitness News. We have the first warning for cars you need to get you through the storm. So tune in to these Eyewitness News for complete weather coverage. It is therefore ordered in a judge that the said William Jefferson Clinton be and he hereby is acquitted of the charges in the said articles. All Democrats and a number of Republicans voted against the articles of impeachment after the vote. The president made a statement at the White House. I want to say again to the American people how profoundly sorry I am for what I said and did to trigger these events and the great burden they have imposed on the Congress and on the American people. Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott says he wasn't worried about backlash from voters. I don't believe you are punished when you do your constitutional duty and you do what your conscience dictates. The chief prosecutor says he has no regrets. I don't walk away from this feeling. We we got treated badly. It could have been better, but everything could have been better. Hyde also urged Kenneth Starr's office to leave Mr. Clinton alone. The White House says it plans to arrange meetings with congressional leaders to help refocus on the nation's business. Two words. Senator Paul Sarbanes finished up on Capitol Hill. He came here to this news to talk about the historic vote, did a good job. And I think we reached the right decision. And, you know, each member has made their own comments. I have consistently said throughout that the president's conduct was deplorable and I'm very sharply critical of it. But, you know, I can I can deal with him being president for a little bit longer, as you probably know. High pressure again, though, moving into the area. And with that, you see the low pressure sitting offshore. But we will expect that those winds and the rain associated with it will move on by the snow that we are expecting is going to stay pretty much near the Great Lakes. We had what we felt to be inappropriate controls on the part of inmates. And we knew that if we did not take action, if we didn't take action, we were going to have a problem somewhere down the line. I just wanted to apologize for any hurt that I may have caused her because, you know, you know what I did? It was wrong. It was the wrong way to handle it. It was Franklin Pierce Wright's way of protesting with a 3.8 grade point average. Franklin thought he more than met National Honor Society standards for character, academics and leadership. The question is, I mean, why did you do that? What made you do that? It was just anger. That's basically it. I mean, anger. I wanted to annoy air because there's nothing else I could do. That's when Franklin did some things he now regrets. The 18 year old admits he sought revenge by driving by Akasaka Law's home and honking his horn loudly when he saw the 51 year old geometry teacher at school. You could say he let her know how he felt. Barking at her in school was uncalled for, although it wasn't even you can't call it a bark. His dogs bark. Humans just kind of try to mimic that. Frank Wright plans to attend the University of Maryland at Baltimore County. The officers lined right up with the inmates for a shake down at the state prison in Jessup today. And three of them came up dirty. The prison was locked down for a surprise search for drugs. And as Katie Logan reports, evidence of smuggling. The lockdown and search began just before dawn. What we have done is going into the House of Correction, we had unacceptably high levels of drug use inside the house of correction. We had what we felt to be inappropriate controls on the part of inmates. And we knew that if we did not take action, if we didn't take action, we were going to have a problem somewhere down the line. A three month long investigation found corruption among some staff and inmates. A recent drug screening found 13% of inmates tested were positive for drugs. Nationwide, the average only stands at 9%. We are literally going through every piece of property that every inmate has inside that institution. So little bit by little, bit by little bit, we will go through that entire institution to make sure that there are no drugs or weapons. The lockdown and search will continue through the weekend.
