Looks like we are going to have very interesting day. This day, general thinking is clouds and sun winning cold. The winds really haven't kicked up yet. It's I wouldn't even say it's breezy outside right now. We're always going to get wind in cold with a high of 38 degrees this day. Tonight, general thinking, partly cloudy, blustery, exceptionally winter, like overnight low of about 20 degrees. And tomorrow we'll go ahead and call another real cold day with a high of 32 degrees. By the way, normal is a few degrees above this. So we are definitely in a very warm winter like conditions region wide right now. Hey, what you see is what you get. And I will tell you this, though, there's some good news. I actually don't want you to talk about this together over on the set, even though all these temperatures are below freezing, I didn't run into any streets that were really ice covered. Yeah, we'll discuss that a little bit later on in the show. There was news, of course, yesterday with it. Here's Don. Thank you. It's 533. Here's what's happening, Newswise. This morning. The search is on for three juvenile offenders who escaped last night during a basketball game at the Wood Core Job Corps Center. When last seen, the three were dressed in black and white basketball uniforms. We know one of the young men is from the Hickey School. The other two are from the Woodstock Center, which is a non secured facility. A spokesperson for juvenile services refused to tell us if the escapees are violent offenders. And although last night's escape did not occur at the Hickey School. Critics of the facility say its problems have not improved since the state turned over its operation to a private company last night. The issue of privatization of state functions came under attack at a state workers rally in Annapolis. The state workers are concerned about bills calling for even more privatization. The workers say if the trend continues, taxpayers will have to chase after companies and consultants to question why services are not delivered. They use the Hickey School as a bad example. The Hickey School is now costing the state of Maryland more than the cost where they contracted out the functioning of that facility.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136695/file/253399#t=204.79,294.76"},{"id":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136695/file/253399/transcript/71542/annotation/4","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"In addition to that, there have been many problems there in terms of running the facility where they used the Hickey school as an example. The problem result revolves around a series of fights at the school High school 17 since last October. Black and white students involved with skinheads, parents, students and teachers met to discuss differences and put the problems in perspective. They wanted to end or find a solution. Understand that racism is a big issue, and if you don't understand it and care about it, then you're not going to do anything about it. Yes, there is a problem. Yes, there is fighting among black and white from what we're told. Yes. We're not denying that. What we're saying is it's not as big as the media has portrayed it to be. We are told students are no longer permitted now to wear symbols like swastikas on their clothes. But students are not convinced that will help very much either. I had no intention of shoveling any snow yesterday at all. And I mean none. I was just gonna let it be. Let him out cold. They see you later. Okay. Then I started to ask why I was going to get below freezing. Before I knew it, I ended up doing half the neighborhood. Well, I got on a roll. It was slushy. It was coming up easy. Definitely shovel it because there's an icy phase where you're liable to end up right on your keister. If you know me. That's. That's it, That's a shovel it for sure. Take. Take the word of a native New Englander, shovel it via shovel it or let it melt by itself. Definitely let it out by itself. Why is that? Because shoveling requires energy. And I'd rather just let nature take its course. Let it now. Yeah. For the cars. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Otherwise they want to be careful where you walk. Yeah. It seems to me there's a difference in the thinking between a younger generation or the middle age generation regarding shoveling snow. The generation says generally let it melt. What do you think? I think you're absolutely right. And the older generation used to go out and make money shoveling snow with shovels. The younger generation won't even do it with a snowplow. Apparently they're not interested in making money. Well, Frank, mean, how much how many younger generations do you see out doing sidewalks? I don't. I never seen. Hi, everyone. Do your hands tingle and go numb even when you're not excited or cold? Well, if they do, you may be suffering from carpal tunnel syndrome, which causes numbness, tingling and pain in your thumb index and middle fingers and often gets worse at night. It's caused by pressure on the median nerve, the nerve that runs from the neck to the hands at the point where it passes into the hand. It develops more often in women than men and commonly occurs in pregnant women, women who have recently started taking birth control pills and women who have had gynecological surgery.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136695/file/253399#t=2828.78,2924.54"},{"id":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136695/file/253399/transcript/71542/annotation/30","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"Some researchers believe that estrogen replacement therapy can actually be helpful in relieving carpal tunnel syndrome. There's been a shakeup in the city's housing department with Commissioner Robert Horan moving to a new position in the wake of some recent housing problems. In his commentary this morning, Michael Luskin remembers a time when the department was the pride of city government, beginning in the 1970s, when Baltimore City first felt the thing we once called the Great Renaissance. The Housing Department was home of the best and the brightest. Not only were creative housing ideas born there, but other notions as well. The city fair, the revitalization of the mechanic theater, the rebirth of different neighborhoods. Lately, though, it's been a disaster. First, the revolting conditions at Lexington Terrace Apartments. Then the revelation that $42 million in federal housing dollars had been overlooked. The mayor has now moved Housing Commissioner Robert Hearn to a new job, ironically working to obtain the kind of federal money his department has been overlooking. But that's only for openers. We're told a shakeup of the department will follow. And down the line, a new commissioner will be watching. When Kurt Schmoke ran for mayor, a lot of people voted for him in great anticipation. He's smart. He'll surround himself with very bright people. But it hasn't always happened. And almost nowhere is the disappointment greater than in the sorry condition of the housing department. I'm Michael, Alaska. Thank you, Michael. Just past 619. Hi. May I have the envelope, please? We certainly appreciate that, Mr. Paul. Andre. Wait, wait, wait. For years she's been on people. We're talking. I guess she uses up a local fixture on the culinary scene. And how are you doing this morning, Susan? I'm doing just great. How are you cooking? We're good. Could be better. Now. We got a couple of questions for you here. Get on with paying right there. Right. Can somebody make an omelet? Not in an omelet pan. Well, they can make an omelet in a regular frying pan as long as it's nonstick, because you want to make sure that all your fillings get in the omelet and it looks nice. Just walk. Well, so. So in other words, it's always got Teflon, nonstick coated pan. It doesn't matter. Doesn't necessarily mean I'm with Pan now. It doesn't have to. Vietnam with pants. Some people take a shortcut and have a pan. The folds over, but a nonstick frying pan is just fine. I've seen the pan with the hinge on it. Yeah. Okay. Now, living that, you just let me into the next question. Let's say you want to put something in it. When is the time to do it? When you're beating the eggs or later? Well, what you do is you beat your eggs and then you add about a tablespoon of cold water for every two eggs. The. Why is that? Well, it makes it light and fluffy. Now, what I'm going to do today is I'm going to flip it in the air, because that way it is cooked on both sides. That's a show stopper, by the way. Absolute showstoppers feather in the air. Of course, for us less talented people, you can take a spatula. Just kind of turn it. Yeah, Well, wait a minute.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136695/file/253399#t=3663.7,3739.96"},{"id":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136695/file/253399/transcript/71542/annotation/37","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"Now, hold on. You're adding the ingredients now. Cheese. Well, I flipped it, so it's cooked on both sides. All right. I put some cheddar cheese, and I'm going to make a southwestern omelet today, which is the most popular omelet. Right? Go ahead. I'm sorry. Okay. I put some cheese and I'm left handed, so I'm going to follow my omelet from the left. If you were right handed, you would do it from the right. I do it over a third. Kind of push it down just a little bit so it'll seal and then roll it up again so that when you take it out of the pan and put it on your plate, it won't stick. Now let's get this progression right. Okay? Okay. Go ahead and continue doing with what you're doing there. And we'll we'll deal with the other item here in a second. Okay. I thought a teaspoon or a tablespoon of cold water. Tablespoon per egg. Per omelet. Per omelet. Now what you can do, if you don't want to dirty up your tablespoon, you can take half an egg shell. You're saving eggshell, Put some water in it, feed it up, and then you have your egg mixture. That's a great little tip there. Sure rinses out the shell. Then you flip it and after it's flip. Well, I don't suggest flipping it unless you're near the sink because you don't want to make a mess in your kitchen. Yeah, what you can do is you slide it off your plate, your frying pan, rather to your plate, turn it over, and then you're ready to put your fillings in. And this omelet, I'm going to put some cheddar cheese. I have some bacon that I fried and crumbled. Yeah, I'm going to put some sauteed onions.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136695/file/253399#t=3740.11,3823.87"},{"id":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136695/file/253399/transcript/71542/annotation/38","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"And the bottom line is, no matter how you flip it, whether you put it in another container, put it on a plate, flip it over and put it back in. No matter how you flip it, it's after the flip that you put your ingredients in. Right? Right. A big misconception. A lot of people lived in their houses and up with the ingredients. And while they're mixing up the eggs batter. Sure. It just don't work that way. Well, you don't want to do it that way, because the most important thing, I think, is to be organized. You're organized and you have all your ingredients out in separate bowls. It'll work out just fine for you. You know, I'll tell you what I've done. The reason we bring up on with your show stopper how many times you had an affair and people will just stand there and stare at you making omelets. Well, that happens a lot. People just watch us do it because we flip the omelets in the air and we give them a show for their money. What was in the squeeze bottle? That was the liquid margarine. Now you can use butter, but butter tends to burn in the frying pan if you're not careful. So the margarine works a little bit better. And if the frying pan has to be really hot, frying pan has to be hot. I put some margarine in to season it not just hot, but I mean really hot. Well, how hot is really okay, let's say you've got on an electric stove. I would say medium, medium or an electric stove. I've got a gas stove medium also really not high. Not high. Well, the current scoop on eggs is you can eat more eggs today than you could a couple of years ago. You can eat eggs a couple of times a week and not worry. There's also fat in your cheese products and crackers, so you need to look on the ingredients on the box of crackers to check out the cholesterol and the fat. Right. Let's go ahead and take a look at the forecast today. It's going to be cold. Yeah, there's no question about it. Cloud and sun, windy, cold. We'll be dealing with wind chills today. The thermometer high is going to be 38 degrees tonight. It's going to be another chilly night with an overnight low of 20 degrees. Still windy, well, blustery. And tomorrow, the general thinking is mostly sunny, cold with a high of 32 degrees. Once again, it is a chilly morning. We're looking at temperatures anywhere from 24 in Hagerstown to 30 in Richmond, Salisbury right now, 25 degrees. Ocean City, 26, Chestertown right now, 26 degrees. Let me show you the East Coast satellite photo real quick. Look at the area of low pressure still up to our north, just kind of churning away. It is governing our weather right now and it is really sending a strong flow of some relatively cold air just right down into the area. And the general thinking is, once again, we're going to we're going to have below normal temperatures today and tomorrow. By the end of the week, we're seriously going to watch a storm out west. It is now starting to show indications of coming our way with some problems associated. We'll discuss that during the five day segment a little later this half hour Don. Okay. Thank you very much. Word of a rule of thumb, I guess, this morning is watch out for those shiny shoulders and shiny boxes in the road. These are critical for a traffic team. With more on today's rush Chuck. All right. Kelly, back to you. Don, thank you. Just past 643 last night, the issue of privatization of state functions came under attack at a state workers rally in Annapolis. The state employees are concerned about bills calling for even more privatization. The workers say if the trend continues, taxpayers will have to chase after companies and consultants to question why services are not being delivered. And they use the Charles Hickey School in Cobb Hill as a prime example. Hickey School is now costing the state of Maryland more than it cost before they contracted out the functioning of that facility. In addition to that, there have been many problems there in terms of running the facility. And the state workers say their protests have only just begun. Reports of racism in eastern Baltimore County School led to a special meeting there last night to try and cool heads and calm fears. The problem revolves around a series of fights. 17 since last October, Black and white students involved in fights with skinheads were all parents, students and some teachers met to discuss differences and put the problem in perspective last night.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136695/file/253399#t=4421.98,4509.31"},{"id":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136695/file/253399/transcript/71542/annotation/46","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"They want to find solutions to violence.
