Just ahead on Eyewitness News, a West Baltimore community says it's had enough. Neighbors took to the streets today to fight drugs. Negotiators for unions in C and D are racing a midnight strike deadline. We will tell you how that might affect you. It's taken them more than six years, but today two pen pals finally met. We'll be there for the reunion. And the Orioles are still fighting a downward spin. They will try again tonight to turn it around against the Texas Rangers. Hello, everyone. If your child is having a hard time learning in school, you may need some information about learning disabilities. ACL, the Association for Children and Adults with Learning Disabilities can help you. Before I found ACL, I felt alone, frustrated, like I was groping in the dark. Now when I have a problem or my child has a problem, I pick up the phone, I call ACL and I know I have a friend there who will help me. When I first joined ACL California, I immediately had a sense of relief because I wasn't alone. I found other parents have similar problems. They march through these troubled streets to reach those who are often the last to listen. There are so many people who will not come out. We need to let them know our concerns because we feel that our concerns are their concerns. Many of those leading the march were themselves recovering addicts as though it took them other people, you know, just to get drugs. I didn't like the lifestyle. 11 I became homeless. Andrea says a couple of hundred people showed up today to show their concern over problems in their neighborhood. Three years ago, one man executed five people in a Pimlico apartment. Tonight, that man is finally going to prison for the crime. Yesterday, a Baltimore jury convicted 29 year old Wayne Brooks. Detectives think he was connected with violent Jamaican drug gangs when he killed those people. Police found Wayne Brooks serving time in a New York prison last year and they brought him back to Maryland. The judge could give him five consecutive life sentences to guarantee that he never gets out on parole. Out in Middle River tonight, police still aren't sure why someone beat a 47 year old man to death on the local boy's club baseball field. The murder victim's name was Billy Arthur Peterson. And police think they know who killed him. They've arrested Perry Evans of Middle River and charged him with first degree murder. Police caught their suspect after witnesses reported seeing him with bloody clothing as he reportedly tried to steal a car. Now, even though detectives think they got their suspect, there is still no word on how that deadly fight began. The Orioles are struggling with a big slump this summer. Now their star slugger is out of the lineup for a while. What's the story? Couldn't have happened at a worse time, It was 14 out of the last 16 now total. Turns out guys hit 22 home runs for them. Well, more bad news for the royals tonight. Their leading home run hitter, Mickey Tarleton, has a sore left knee. He is expected to miss the next three weeks. Arthroscopic surgery on the knee is set for Monday. Mickey said it's an injury that's really been bothering him for the last 3 or 4 weeks. And apparently it's so bad now he needs the relief and so he'll have surgery on Monday. In the meantime, the birds have signed up free agent Jamie Quirke as a replacement. Another area where the Orioles certainly are hurting is in their pitching. Dave Schmidt is in a terrible slump. He's lost his last five games here in the first last night. Julio Franco digs up the low fastball, hits it far back, right center. Deborah Owen Anderson, give it a look.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136066/file/252467#t=1316.64,1415.13"},{"id":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136066/file/252467/transcript/70793/annotation/14","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"A three run home run. Watch the pitch by Russell catches the inside corner Strike three. That killed off the rally. Frank Robinson says he doesn't really enjoy watching his team fall behind so quickly. You know, they battling back from six run deficit and in like that every ball game and you know we can't wait until the last batter whatever to try to score runs. We didn't do anything much and then complete ballgame except the home run against that Worthington hit and we had people out on base and we just couldn't get a run in. And in the ninth inning we did have a shot. But, you know, you ask them for almost a miracle then. Okay. Franks a little down after watching his ballclub lose 14 out of their last 16 ballgames. Elsewhere in the American League East this afternoon, Boston started the day in fourth place, two and a half games back, but they pounded Cleveland by the final count, ten to oil can. Boy, checking out part of the scenery today, Fenway Park here in the sixth inning. Meanwhile, Boston's Jodie Reed watch them jump on a John Farrell fastball hit high and deep to left Watch This thing hits off the light tower above the green monster. Now Reed stops at second base. He's thinking double. He finally gets the ruling homerun for Reed and Boston. And the Cubs in the win column at Three Rivers Stadium started the NFL preseason today with the annual Hall of Fame game in Canton, Ohio. Now, it doesn't really count these preseason games, but the Redskins still looking very impressive as they maul Buffalo by 25, 31 to 6 before the game for the all time greats were inducted into the Football Hall of Fame. Will it? What are the Green Bay Packers? An 11 year veteran, he played the safety spot under Vince Lombardi sign as a free agent out of Southern California. Another defensive back, Mel Blount played on the great Pittsburgh teams during the 70s that won four Super Bowls. Art Shell of the Raiders out of Maryland's Eastern Shore, a huge offensive lineman, made eight Pro Bowl teams. And finally, Pittsburgh quarterback Terry Bradshaw, two time Super Bowl Most Valuable Player. What a great throwing arm. But he says he would have never made the Hall of Fame without a lot of help. You don't get elected into the Hall of Fame by yourself. Thank you. Number 88. Lynn Swann. Thank you. Number 82, John Stallworth. Thank you. Franco Harris. Thank you, Rocky Bleier.
