Hi, I'm Kelly Lynn. There is no doubt that the white stuff is what most people are talking about today. The falling snow makes for a mess on Maryland's roads. Despite several closing and delays, the roads were packed with people trying to make their way to work this morning. He goes to stay home, try to keep the walkways clear of the white stuff as well. Marty has been keeping an eye on first warning radar with the latest Marty. Well, I tell you, what's coming is, is eventually, as we mention during the tease, do the show a changeover from snow to rain? We're just slowing the weather system up just a little bit. And we're now starting to get some indications, look to the west of D.C. that we're going to see this snow come to an end. There'll be a 2 or 3 hour lull. We're not a whole lot goes on and then we'll start to see the changeover in. Timing is pretty much everything. Their computers are projecting a forecast temperature above 32 degrees right around dinnertime. I mean, you know, be honest about it. Things have slowed up just a little bit. So it depends upon when that moisture comes back in. What the chapter is. 33 comes back in is pure rain, 32 or slightly below, comes back in as some sleet wonder. One thing's for sure, we're getting a pretty good snowfall average of four inches, maybe a little more before it ends in a couple of hours Kelly. Okay, Marty, thanks a lot. If you travel by car, you no doubt have some concerns about what conditions are like on the roadways. For an update, let's check in with Gene Ross from our traffic team. Hey, Jean. Hi, Kelly. And I guess the best word of advice is watch your speed and try to keep some distance between you and the car in front of you. Still have some serious accidents out there, clearing up one still on northbound, 95 north of one, 95. Still several lanes blocked right there, southbound 95 near Russell Street for another accident, Roswell Boulevard and Pulaski Highway, an overturned vehicle right there. So that's a serious one. And on the out of loop, prior to pairing Parkway, we have an accident that was just reported out there. So watch speeds and keep that distance between you and the car in front of you. See you later. All right. That's good advice. Thanks a lot, Jean. And mass transit is also feeling the effects of this. No. One is probably just as worried about what comes next. Marc Jones of the MTA joins us live on the telephone now with this update. Hi, Mark. Hi, Don. MTA's light rail is experiencing delays of up to 15 to 20 minutes in both directions between Hunter Valley and Cranwell station, Glen Burnie. We're presently working on clearing up that delay. What's going on now, Mike? Well, right now they have reopened the runways. Let me show you one of the reasons why they made the runways about as clear as up here on the horseshoe. But, you know, the problem has been that as soon as the snow comes, you know, just accumulates. And that indeed has been a problem. With me now, Sharon Perry with the airport. What kind of problems have we had out here? Well, of course, they had to close the runways in order to clear them. And they've been plowing away the snow and and getting all of that together. They are open now, though, and there are scattered delays, but pretty much everything's running smoothly. Yeah, they may have to shut down the runways later in the afternoon. If it keeps up the way it's going, it would be very likely that that could happen again. Good. Sharon, thank you very much. Of course, they had to clear the runways to FAA specifications. It's not just like clearing a roadway where people can get over it. They can get over it. They are very specific specification of how slippery the runway can be. And Alan, I want to go right over here. If you look out there, see all those planes out kind of in the mist, in the snow? Well, they're all waiting to be deiced or they are being deiced. And that is good news because there have been around 20 delays or cancellations or arrivals delayed out here. So there are a lot of people inside who were inconvenienced, but at least some of the people are getting up in the air.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136486/file/253069#t=286.57,365.98"},{"id":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136486/file/253069/transcript/71178/annotation/5","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"Back to you on a warm TV hill. Well, Kelly, I've just shoveled all of Bel Air Road from about Northern Parkway up to about here. Pretty much our trip from TV Hill out here to Bel Air Road earlier today. You know, it started off, of course, early this morning before dawn. The salt trucks were out, but there was just only a dusting on the road. So like that, if you were to actually drive past it, it blew away By the time we got to 83, which just was just about 5:00 or so. The roads were just starting to get a little damp and the salt trucks were still out. People were still trying to make time and get out of the way. And the roads were still a little treacherous. But then daybreak came in. The snow got a little bit heavy, and people here on Bel Air Road were just pretty much symbolic of what it was. Everywhere else, everyone slowed down, but the roads caked up just a little bit. And I just started getting a little bad. And as you can see right now, the roads are still that way and they've been building up. What's what was powered earlier was is has turned to slush. The snow plows are now dropping their plows. They weren't doing that earlier. They were actually just going by with salt. But now they're actually dropping their plows and trying to plow some of this off of the roads because it is building up that much. So that's what it's like out here just north of the beltway. Are we just we have just all really come a long way. I mean, it it's it's truly amazing the this weather has played itself out pretty much the way it was discussed yesterday, with one exception. We've had this storm slow up a little bit. And that's why instead of having 1 to 3in, we are ending up with, you know, realistically 4 to 5in of snow around here. I know some people watch us out in Frederick County get a little more snow than that. But I'm speaking here in general terms. We broadcast to a rather large area. Take a look at first warning radar, the Doppler, and what you're going to see is something interesting happening off to the west and particularly up there to the north. We're starting to see a null, if you want to call it a jet zone, that's fine. But take a look down here to the west of D.C. Other than this little cell here, there's a real break in the action. Now, further on south and west, there's another big slug of moisture headed our way. But what's going to happen is keep in mind, this is all very slowly moving in a north northeasterly direction. As a matter of fact, when it when it comes to the heavier snowfall on the radar over the past hour and a half or so, it's kind of shimmied like this as it's moving up in a northerly direction. We're going to be looking at sleet and then maybe a little bit of freezing rain. Wouldn't you know, it just in time for afternoon rush hour? You know, this morning, the storm was moving at six miles an hour and almost everybody was saying, okay, we've got a drop of snowfall here. And indeed we do. But I think a lot of people went to work because of that. And I'd be lying if I didn't tell you. Coming home might get a bit dicey. At least we're going to have a snow pack down and you can get some traction. And look, we may not even see any freezing rain at all. It might just come back in just boom. That represents a consensus judgment on the part of the hundred members of the Senate. In a nonpartisan vote, the senators dropped their fighting in hopes of ending this soon. Starting Wednesday, each side will have 24 hours to present their case spread out over several days. That's a pretty good invention because we don't need it because we're going to have rain that's going to do the same thing when it heats up. A few years ago, we got freezing rain, so we're not getting a whole lot of melting, at least not at this point. But later on during the day, tomorrow, during the early morning hours, look for rain and temperatures above freezing where I can see some pretty good. Nothing going on. In fact, by this time tomorrow night. Most of the snow should be gone. Believe it or not, it's hard to believe it's quite moving. And here comes Doug yet again. Going up the hill. Solving the hill. Thank you, Don. Thank you for us. Helping you to get out here, plowing and something else. There you go. Come. Thank you, guys. Thank you very much. A lovely city. That's one good way. But by that time, we do expect to see warmer temperatures. Take a look around the temperature, 28.6 here on TV here. It's going up from 27 around the rest area. We've got a storm which is actually not really a storm as much as an overrunning precipitation episode. Warm, moist air coming up from the Gulf of Mexico. Lording over the cold air created a lot of precipitation. There is an area of low pressure over eastern Kentucky, a lot of rain, even some thunder down there. Warm air trying to move in. This cold air slowly, slowly eroding to our west. A lot of rain over Kentucky, western sections of the Carolinas where temperatures are above freezing during the last few hours. You're seeing this warm air try to move into certain sections of our region where it has.
