I don't care what the groundhog says. Actually, the groundhog is predicting six more weeks of winter. February is for sure a winter month here in Maryland and in Baltimore in particular. We're going to look at some statistics for February. It is the snowiest month of the year. Our normal high for the entire month is 44, normal low 25. It's been as high in the city as 83 degrees one time. Lowest seven below zero that occurred a few times. the average snowfall. And this is for the airport, around 8 inches, but we've gotten as much as almost 23 inches, that was last year, and as little as a trace. The average precept for the month, a little under 3 inches, but we do have more snow in February than any month of the year. The next month is January, and the one after that, believe it or not, is March. We get a lot of snow in March. Usually it doesn't last on the ground as much as early in the winter, because the sun's pretty hot by March. uh... we're not predict any snow for tomorrow but we are looking for some colder weather to move in this weekend and it'll take us back to winter by sunday and monday monday some more arctic air is headed our way let's take a look at our current weather conditions under clear skies we got up to forty two degrees today tad warmer finally came out of the house we're down to thirty nine now the winds out of the south east around nine miles an hour humidity fifty three percent The barometer falling 30 .25 inches, the air quality. just in the moderate range at 51 today. Your tides, center eyes, 712 sets, 528 in the afternoon. Today was an awfully nice day. Lots of bright sunshine and usually blue skies in most areas. A few high, thin clouds moving in from time to time. Still a little bit of snow, especially in areas where the sun hasn't been shining directly on the snow. And in northern exposures and underneath some of those trees, even Drew Hill Park has some snow left. Let's take a look. And our national radar, a big change from last night. Remember last night we only had one place. That was up at Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan that had some light snow showers. Well, look at it tonight. A whole area of precipitation from northern parts of Michigan through the central Midwest down into the Gulf States. This is a cold front that's headed in our direction. So what do we expect tomorrow? Well, increasing clouds with this system and then showers to break out tomorrow afternoon. A period of rain could give us a quarter of an inch of rain. because of the warm air coming in. Let's take a look at our local radar. Nothing but a little bit of ground clutter, nothing here at all. Cloud cover tonight shows up very well. The clouds out to the west, and there you go. There's a frontal system. Moisture coming in from the Gulf of Mexico. Some cooler air coming in behind the system. Sets up a classic cold frontal system with showers along the front. The system's gonna move through the area during the day tomorrow, clearing the area late, late tomorrow into early Saturday. Some colder air moves in Saturday, and then another cold front moving into the Northern Plains. And yet another one will move in later on Sunday. Three cold fronts will cross the region over the next three days. It's gonna get progressively colder each time. Let's take a look at tomorrow's map. Here's the first cold front. Goes through tomorrow with some showers. Behind that, a slight break. Saturday could see some sunshine. And then this next frontal system, and it's a pretty cold one, moving down from central Canada, will swing across the area. And behind that one, there's yet another one, which will be on the map tomorrow. So. A series of cold fronts will generally cool off the entire eastern half of the United States. By this weekend, temperatures are going to be down below normal once again. Tomorrow, 50s in the southwest, very, very mild, even Denver, 54 with bright sunshine generally for the Mississippi Valley all the way out to the west coast. Most of the precip will occur along the east coast. Looking at the state right now, 43 in D .C., 46 Richmond, that's where the warm air kind of moved in today, and out to our west, 50 degrees right now in Morgantown. generally upper thirties to our east and northeast winds tomorrow out of the south ten to twenty miles an hour here's our forecast tonight clear and it'll be cold but not as cold as last night we had a lot of teens last night tonight bottoming out at around twenty six degrees tomorrow then becoming cloudy and afternoon rain and evening showers high of forty six to forty eight low tomorrow night above freezing thirty five degrees and then turning colder gradually throughout the weekends. And we'll find out what the groundhog says, whether it's true or not. Let's check the statistics. When spring arrives in about seven weeks, not six. Winter lasts seven weeks from today.
text/plain
https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/144431/file/266936#t=1169.49,1432.01
https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/144431/file/266936/transcript/77117/annotation/53
Speaker 3: Oh, I don't want to hear. As Bob Turk mentioned earlier, Puxatawney Phil once again kept the groundhog tradition alive by leaving his burrow this morning and giving us a six -week weather forecast with his shadow. Simple enough, but enough to cause a controversy. Today, via our news wires, we at Eyewitness News were informed that Wisconsin attorney general, a man named Bronson LaFolier, has declared a fight is on between his state's groundhog and Puxatawney Phil. Here's the story. According to the Wisconsin attorney general, a groundhog from Sun Prairie, Wisconsin named Jimmy, has been more accurate over the years than Phil, 90 percent versus 17 percent right. He also mentions that the sunrise being one hour later in their central time zone, as far as the media goes, cuts Jimmy out at the start.
