WBFF-TV Fox 45 announces its second annual Operation PROM, a unique broadcast and community outreach program designed to involve teens, parents, friends, schools, and local businesses in a program to realize a safe and sober PROM graduation season for all community residents. The pride of Baltimore Pontiac dealers join Fox 45 as corporate sponsors. Operation PROM addresses the crisis of teenage... drinking and driving. Every year more than 8,000 teens lose their lives in alcohol-related traffic accidents. Drinking and driving is the number one killer of 15 to 24-year-olds. Operation PROM is designed to educate teens and their parents about the problem of alcohol abuse and its impact on our roadways. As the school year ends, PROMs and graduations serve as the rite of passage for youth, the beginning of their adult lives. It is this time that they celebrate. Unfortunately, far too often, many teens mistakenly think the best way to celebrate is to drink alcohol. Operation Prom seeks the commitment from high school students and their parents to celebrate safe and sober. Fox 45 and the pride of Baltimore Pontiac Dealers challenge Baltimore area high schools to form a sad chapter in each and every high school in the area. The development of sad chapters will involve teenagers, their peers, parents. in open communication about drinking and driving, and encourages a commitment from both teens and parents to practice responsible behavior. On Fox 45, the Baltimore area Pontiac dealers will offer $1,000 cash awards to high schools in each of our five metro counties and Baltimore City. The awards will be based on the highest rate of student participation in the Operation Prom. It's open to all high school students and the winner will be announced on May 22nd of this year.
