John We didn't like each other because John was one of those people who thought he wasn't hurting me. He wasn't doing his job. And my knees were locked out straight for about 18 months. And the doctor told John, Do not bend his knees. Let him bend his knees as much as you can on his own. But John wasn't happy with that, as I can only bend my knees about ten degrees and the normal person has 130 degrees of pleasure. And for about two months, John went on the program and he got tired of waiting for me to make some more progress. So one day I wasn't paying attention to John and was watching an ambulance come up the driveway and he had my left leg up in the air and he had his wrist under my knee. And he reached up and he grabbed my ankle and he snapped that knee. And then hurt. It hurt. But John got 70 degrees out of that jerk and snapped back. And he was so proud of me. And the nurses and doctors were coming over Pat and John on the back and all I could see was red. Because all I think about was a gentleman ruining 18 months of healing, and he had his head in the absolute right position for me to call one doctor to give me. All right. He wanted to go to my arrival at right time and not to be involved in our people. He got up and we called each other and he said, I'm telling you here and now I catch you dozing off. I'm going to get that right leg of yours. So for the next few weeks, I watched John like a hawk and he finally found the way to begin. He had someone come in to distract me and John to find me. And then he ran. He broke my leg and ran through a lot of craziness and screaming and yelling in shock to operate a motor vehicle. Under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Is a choice we make. I don't have to tell you that it's the wrong choice. I don't have to tell you that. It's a bad choice. You know that. What we need for you to do is to take the messages you have heard from us this morning. Back to you as fools. And let's turn it into a car commercial. I don't think they make that commercial. Two friends and two friends and two friends. And pretty soon the message will get out that to drink and drive or to do drugs and drive is not the way we should behave. If Russell Setter had snuck up behind me in the dark of night and struck me over the head and knocked me out and then proceeded to break my legs in 67 places, destroyed my ankles and demolished my knees and break my hip or collarbones, ribs and punctured lung and ruptured my spleen and punctured my liver and then poured gasoline on me and set me on fire. We would call it assault with intent to murder. We would be lined up and say, How can one human being do this to another? But that's not the avenue he chose. He simply chose to drink and drive. And for some unknown reason, we have separated this type of behavior out, in a way. From the program, the situation I just described. If he had done this to me with a baseball bat, he would have gone to jail. But he did. He drove a car. And he walked away from it. He walked away. He stood there. Watch me in that vehicle near death. And he said to me, you know, good S.O.B.. It's too bad I didn't kill him. And I'm still waiting. I'm still waiting to hear. I am sorry. I'm still waiting to hear. Can you forgive me? I didn't mean it. I'm sorry. No card, no letter, no phone call in 13 years. Alcohol makes you stupid in more ways than one. I want to close by saying, ladies and gentlemen, that there is a dream out there with your name on it. Just like my dream was to be a Maryland state trooper. I was lucky. I got to be in my own state. I was unlucky in the sense that my career was cut short. I ask you to. Please don't be a Russian. Don't drink and drive.
