A simple drive down a highway and in an instant, four people are dead. And the only survivor of last night's terrible crash and Gibson is in critical condition tonight. The accident has devastated the small Hertford County community of Darlington, home to three of the victims. Brenda Karl has spent the day learning more. Brenda. Denise It was a terrible crash last night. They claim four lives along route one here just north of the Bel Air area. Both cars completely totaled in a devastating accident. And today, there were lots of grim reminders that remained at the scene. Debris litters the ground here on U.S. Route one, where four people died last night in a head on collision about 915. The baby was going to bed. I heard a bang. I didn't know anything about it. Three of the victims perished in this Oldsmobile, including the driver, 64 year old Donald Reeves of Darlington. His wife, Edna, was airlifted to the shock trauma center in Baltimore for reasons unknown at this time, the blue Dodge called it, crossed the centerline and struck the Oldsmobile in a head on fashion. On the right hand side of the roadway. The actual cause of the accident still under investigation. We have to determine the cause of why the car would be on the other side of roadway. The impact of last night's deadly crash on Route one is being felt very deeply here today at the Darlington Volunteer Fire Company, where one of the victims, Donald Reeves, was a long time member. Police say the driver of the Dodge Cole, 23 year old William Talbot, Junior of Boston, crossed the centerline and slammed head on into the Reeve's car, killing both drivers instantly. Denise, police say that right now they're looking at possible driver error as the cause of that crash. It will take a while longer to make that official determination. But Brenda, I remember driving home last night, it was raining. What were the road conditions and that area when the accident happened? The police report describes the road conditions as good. Now, of course, it was dark. The area is on a curve on an upgrade. But apparently for some reason, that cold crossed the center line slamming right into the Oldsmobile. And we could see on the road where there had been blood, where the firefighters had tried to clean it up. But a lot of grim reminders still there along that stretch of U.S. Route one. Denise or I, thank you, Brenda. Joan Hayes, the victim who was visiting from England, was here in Baltimore for the Preakness. What was Brenda mentioned? It all started here at Central District downtown. Police say last night a 16 year old managed to steal a set of police car keys and a uniform. Being a police officer is a serious job and it comes with a lot of responsibility and authority. And to do something like that is real dangerous. The teen allegedly drove around in a marked jail tracker like this one. Officers say he then spent the next four hours pretending to be a cop. Most cases, what he did was he saw the other uniformed units on the scene, gave them a quick way to make sure everything was okay and then drove off. Police say the teen was no stranger to the department. Apparently he'd been a member of the Police Explorers program for several years, a group that grooms young men and women interested in law enforcement did have some knowledge, and they do do quite a bit of studying about law enforcement. Baltimore police say the teenager who impersonated an officer put himself and others at risk. Here's the problem. If he had been confronted with a real life emergency, he would have faced it with no skills, no training, no shield and no gun. He's putting them at a risk and he's putting everybody up an alarm. You know, and like I said, if a real policeman came up to me and said, Well, Mr., you need help, I'd have to say, Well, can I see your badge? Can I see some ID? Allen said he was the trigger man for Dante Paul McGhie, Moffat's nephew. Yesterday, hours after McGee was sentenced to life in prison, Allen withdrew his plea, telling a judge he was caught in a tug of war with his attorneys. The animals that come here often have a poor prognosis. It's usually an injury that brings them, or sometimes it's a chronic problem that other types of therapies just have not worked. For many years, swimming has been touted as a low impact way to improve human fitness. So it is for the horses here. Veterinarian Dr. Kayla Shah keeps track of the animal's heart rates through a monitor. Okay. So. Wow. 137. Good boy. But swimming is only part of the regimen. Ultrasound is also used. And electrical stimulation. And acupuncture. Even massage. But a lot of horses get really tender and sore here. A lot of stalled horses. In its commentary tonight, Michael Lesueur says Dandridge made a costly miscalculation. After 17 years in office, she figured it would just go on forever. Irene Dandridge lost her bid for reelection because she forgot one important thing. Teachers are smart. They heard about her getting interest free loans out of the Union Treasury and they said, what is this? They added that to the big salary she was getting 2 or 3 times bigger than theirs. And then they heard about union officials hiring their own children in union positions. And they said, we've had enough of this. Even some thunderstorms are possible later tonight during the early morning hours tomorrow. 6752 today. No more 75 and 53 winds tomorrow. Here's the big change. Some shower activity that moved through this afternoon now off to the east. But if you look out to the west, you can start to see some activity southwest of Pittsburgh and not too far from Elkins. This stuff is seems to be expanding right now. So it may develop into a little batch of rain that moves to the Baltimore, Washington area later tonight. Maybe after 10 or 11:00, we might see some showers breaking out. So this evening looks like no problems until later on tonight. Around the country, things are really toasty from Virginia westward all the way down the southern California 90s. A lot of one hundreds in the central portion of the United States yesterday. All kinds of records for the hottest it's ever been this early in the year 105 degrees in Garden City, Kansas yesterday. Today they were at 96 because they had some clouds. But this hot and rather humid air is moving in our general direction. And temperatures here are going to get to 90 on Sunday, about 84, 85 tomorrow for the Preakness. By the afternoon, it looks like sun will be coming in because this system seems to be breaking down somewhat. The warm front will go through the area. We do have that cloud band still out to the west with some showers. What's better with my harmonica playing? It was worse than my singing dick is. No. Nothing. It was louder than my singing. Well, this was hope. This was hope. This course promised that I could make my own music in just one lesson. Well, I guess it depends on your definition of music. If practice makes perfect. And natural talent means nothing at all. So. Then maybe I could learn to play the piano overnight as the video promised. The keys are stuck. And then again, maybe not. But after the full 45 minutes, I was ready for my debut at the Peabody. I don't have a piano. You don't have a piano unless you let me buy yours. I don't have a piano. Oh, yes, you do. It wasn't bad. It wasn't bad. But it really says make your own music in one lesson. But it doesn't say what kind of music? Well, that was sort of boogie woogie, you know? It was doing that a little bit. I don't know. So. Okay, thanks. Just a good lawyer, you know? Thank you.
