The 32 year old son of the well-loved couple who was murdered last the last couple of days, is now charged with killing them. Police say he may have used an ax. Richard share reports. It's a horrible crime that has left friends of the victim in utter disbelief. The son arrived home around 10 a.m. Wednesday morning. He had the mother got into an argument and again, based on the investigation, he proceeded to bludgeon her to death. The father arrived home shortly thereafter. He arrived on the second floor of the home, at which point he was attacked by the son and bludgeoned to death. I'm just wondering what happened. What possessed him to do this? You know, just look at mine. Or what they do to whatever. They were the sweetest people I've met. They. They're really nice. Every day they'd come the door and greet me, and they're just great. They were great people. When Harold didn't show for work at mom's bar across the street from his house. Friends became suspicious. I went and knocked on the door and nobody would answer. The door was locked up in. The house was locked up. I came back about every 15 minutes knocking the door, and. Finally Duane answered his son and he. Something didn't seem right, so we called 911. Back then, Byrd had lived in the 400 block of Old Home Road last December. Right across the street, there was another murder. The victim, Evelyn Cunningham, was found beaten and stabbed, just like Laura Byrd. This week, a neighbor, 25 year old Donnell Jones, was arrested in the Cunningham murder. Police say lab tests and gathering evidence takes time, and they add that Jones wasn't the only suspect initially. Jones was also one of the suspects when Laura Byrd was murdered in 1986. It's probably going to rain about 9/10 of a state in the afternoon and tomorrow night. But you're not talking, are you talking? I'm talking rain, some showers and thunderstorms. Some areas could be heavy downpours. I mean, it could be some areas in eastern. Sure may see 3 or 4in of rain. Then you could be wrong tomorrow. We can always be wrong. Oh, let's hope you work out the cards just to look at good for tomorrow. By Sunday, it's going to ease out a little bit. Let's take a look at temperatures conditions around the region. It's a big weekend. You know, I mean any any weekends a big weekend. Take a look at temperatures and conditions around the region. Can we can we take a look at temperatures? Well, twang it, Bob. There we go. I'm ready to go. 80 degrees right now. Warmer. It's 81 up in Harrisburg, 77 at the beaches. 81 over in Washington. 79 down in Richmond. These are really just popped up in this air mass. Not what we're really looking at. It's going to bother us. This weekend is what's going to start developing over the upper portion of Alabama and Georgia. An area of low pressure actually already in place. And this is going to move in our direction. And it's going to bring this moisture back in across the region. So does not look good for tomorrow. But by Sunday, that main impulse of low pressure should be far enough away that at least we'll see some sunshine on Sunday. And then just the risk of some showers and thundershowers on Sunday. But by Monday that should be pretty much gone. So this is going to move in this direction, slide up right over the East coast. And in that position it's going to bring this moisture back in over the area. And that means a good chance of rain and showers and thundershowers for tomorrow into Sunday. By next week however, after Sunday looks like a high pressure is going to build off the East coast and bring our temperatures back up to actually above seasonal normals for a change. A new housing development in northeast Baltimore is just the thing for these older people in need of a change. As we grow older, we look for ways to make our lives easier. 79 year old Gertrude Comber is doing that by moving my age in an old house. It's too hard to take care of them and I can't take care of my yard anymore. To her rescue have come two local agencies, the Baltimore Corporation for Housing Partnership and the American National Bank. Together, they are building several gardens on Bellaire Road just for senior citizens. This will be their home and there will be common areas with seating areas, tables for bridge and things of that nature. It was an opportunity for them to rent a unit that would be new. It would be located where they've spent a number of their years, and they could stay in the same community. Louise Miller feels that this is just the answer to her needs. It will because it's on my bus line, it's close to my church, and it's very convenient for me. There is an age requirement 62 or older, a minimum and maximum income to be eligible, and a set rent. The people who move here have to be able to afford the rent that's established for the units. It'll be priced in the 360 to 425 price range. So it'll be something that someone on a fixed income can afford. It isn't easy to pull up roots after many years. It'll be smaller and I'm going to miss like I have a garden. But make no mistake about it. A tiny needle is inserted into the hair follicle, and current passing through sets up a chemical reaction to kill the cell. Can that really come in a do it yourself kit? It would be difficult to insert this probe into the skin yourself. That's where the problem comes in. But you can act. You can actually get something out of this. You can get something out of this that would destroy those germinating cells in that follicle. If you make a correct insertion and if you don't make a correct insertion, you are asking for trouble. And I have scars on my feet from the lowest setting. Despite that, Gene Gillis was still willing to give it a try. That probe is not short, and although it did slide in along the side of the hair, it wasn't exactly comfortable. We don't use needles that that size. That's almost like a icepick compared to what we use. What setting is that on? Nothing. Zero. Did I see you grimace a little bit? What did it feel like? Is it a needle. Whatever gets a big thunderstorm, nothing is. That's the reason. It's like semi-permanent sand drives. It is something. This guys are incredible guys and gals. They're just a couple weather wise. It's a little wave and it's right now sort of over northeastern sections of Georgia. It's going to be bringing some additional precipitation. We thought this was going to be over with. But another little wave, you can see this rain out over portions of Indiana. It's going to kind of roll up toward our region tomorrow. It's going to sit just west of Bermuda, which means we start getting winds here out of the south and eventually the southwest, so that by Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of next week, we're going to be heating up the first time really in any great degree this summer. Way out, way out east, just west of Africa. A little tropical wave here developing this one could become a tropical depression or a tropical storm over the next couple of days. We're watching. This is where the hurricanes normally form. It's going to take a long time to get over toward, you know, the Caribbean area. So you're under the gun? Well, everybody is, whether it's under the overhang or down in the seats. The multi-million dollar refurbishing and Memorial Stadium is in its final stages, right down to polishing up the beer taps, the work and the beers. You know, all the stuff that they use. It's more stuff. It's a whole lot more stuff. It's a whole lot more. So usually we can fit all of the beer for the CFLs in the frigerator downstairs. Now we can fit half of it in there. Susan Collins says that case involved a young woman killed ten years ago who lived on the same street. James Byrd showed me photos of his 13 year old granddaughter, Laura Lynn Byrd. She was found murdered in 1986. Her body was discovered among the weeds in Belmar Park and they found her. That was about a week after she had recently she left home. So after that, you know, I never did see her in her condition or anything. She was beaten. Yeah. It has troubled the family that the case remains unsolved. I'm going to have to give up a lot, get rid of a lot before I can move, and that's really going to hurt. Yet the new place makes it all worthwhile.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136416/file/253007#t=1746.2,1844.95"},{"id":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136416/file/253007/transcript/71287/annotation/72","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"You have to give up some time, so I figure I'm going to enjoy it. As far as players go, you don't regret and as long as you handle your your job, everything is fine.
