All five members of the family were taken to the hospital. Christina Remick and her six -year -old daughter Stephanie remain hospitalized. The rest of the family was treated and released. No cause of the fire has been established at this time. When students at Hilltop Elementary School arrived this morning, they were immediately sent home. For the second time in a week, someone broke into their home, into their school. A few students are here, and they're leaving quickly. Apparently, whoever broke into the Melrose Hilltop Elementary School broke into the back music room and then set out on a path of destruction throughout the whole building last night. Inside the office was literally torn apart. Phones were broken. Files were ripped up. Adding machines busted. Computers were stolen. Police say they have found some of the computers that were stolen. Whoever did this sprayed the fire extinguishers everywhere, leaving a white mist. Students were dismissed for the day because the police needed time to investigate. Now, there was a similar break -in here on Thursday. And if there's any connection, officials are saying that there were notes left throughout the building. They're not telling us what was in the notes, but basically the person was saying that they were stupid and they really couldn't help themselves do this. The alarm system was not working. It didn't work on Thursday, and it did not work last night. Officials said it was tested. They have no idea why it didn't work. Police are not telling us whether they have any suspects or any clues to who did this. We will have further details for you at six o 'clock. Back to you, Richard. The pole won. McPherson's car was split in half. The two ends coming to rest about 90 feet apart. Luckily, McPherson, who was taken to Sinai Hospital, escaped with only cuts and a lot of bruises. Hopes of the world will be centered on Geneva tomorrow when the leaders of the world's greatest superpowers sit down to talk war no more, hopefully. It will be inside this mansion on the outskirts of Geneva that President Reagan and Secretary General Gorbachev will meet. First, they'll talk face -to -face in a get acquainted session. Then they'll move on to the library. We'll be right back. with aides, interpreters, and staffers present. What happens then inside this building could very well shape the destiny of the world. The talks will begin at 4 a .m. our time. Gorbachev arrived in Geneva this morning to be greeted by Russian -like weather. He appeared solemn as he pledged to work for an end to the arms race. Northern parts of New Mexico and in Colorado, a little bit of snow out there in Utah, real cold out west. And by the way, from baseball, Yogi Barrett today was named one of the coaches. on the Houston Astros under new manager Hal Lanier. All right now, the Skins did rally to beat the Giants, 23 -21 tonight, but the story here, one of the most sickening injuries I think that I've ever seen to Washington quarterback Joe Theismann early on. Now here it is in the second quarter, under great pressure on a flea flicker. It breaks down in the pile, his leg snaps like a twig under the weight of giant defenders Lawrence Taylor and Gary Reasons, a combined 490 pounds. And look at Taylor's reaction. Now ABC has a camera on the other side of the field. And from the reverse angle, and be cautioned, this is severe, you'll more clearly see what a grotesque injury this is. The calf bones will snap underneath Thiesman, we are told, in two places right there, a compound fracture. And again, Taylor, one of the most ferocious players in the league, is just distraught on the sidelines. They take Thiesman off the field on a stretcher and to the hospital. Meanwhile, though, a strange thing happens. In the third quarter, the Redskins really come to life without their leader. And Jay Schrader, in their hands off to Riggins, It's 14 -7, the skins. But the Giants who were playing for the East lead handed off to Joe Morris and this burst ties the game at 14 -14. Morris again will score from about 10 yards off to put the Giants on top. 21 -14 right here. But then the Skins will come back late. They get a field goal to make it 21 -17. On the ensuing kickoff, look at this, for the second time in the half the onside kick and the Skins get it back. And that's their big break. Now, Feisman, of course, out of there, and Jay Strader sort of a star is born. Back to pass, looks for the tight end, Clint Didier, and gets him. And the Skins win it 24 -21. Now, by the way, Feisman, these pictures just in, arriving at the hospital a couple hours ago with his fiance, Kathy Lee Crosby there in the background, was talking, he was calm. A two hour operation is underway right now for the compound fracture. He'll be three months in a cast. Maryland is going to the cherry ball but the whole town is talking about the disgusting finish to the Maryland win at Clemson Saturday with at least five tiger players jumping a Maryland player on the Clemson bench at the end of the game and assaulting him. Now down in Death Valley, I don't know that with the tiger paws and all that stuff these guys seem to think they can do anything specifically if God forbid they should lose which they did but this was grotesque and they should be penalized and hard.
