I don't think they deserve what they got off the. How many? Everybody loves water. Six, six, six, eight. Just one person. Nothing. But I was talking to a crew member, live on the boat and getting one cup of coffee in it. Yeah. Good luck to you. Yeah. Do you know you guys are on? What is the name? What's my Louisa Louis stock? What's the name of a Captain? John. John Miles. My name is Kelly. Kerry. My husband and I got. But it can't be done, Coach. I mean, Captain, for your mobile phone service. Oh, you don't know. Somebody asked me something. What's. What's the boat all about? Somebody told me this project. Well, the state of Minnesota and the state of Maryland, it it's a sort of a promotional tool throughout the state. Apparently, it's owned by the state. So what are you promoting? I guess you're promoting also the state of Maryland, sort of this focus on the Chesapeake. It's a photo of a Baltimore clipper that sailed on the Chesapeake and delivered cargo. So it's sort of it's a sample of what what history on the Chesapeake good is. And I love it. It's great. It's great to have some of the kids on. Chesapeake Bay is in Massachusetts. No, it's in Maryland. Maryland. Tell me where we are and what this is and what it has to do with the mission of the prize. We're in Puerto Rico. We're on the south side of the island. And what we're doing now is watching an open house. The ship is open to the public, and each port we visit from 12 to 5 on the week, the weekends. And this has a lot to do with the mission of the pride. It's our chance to share our pride with the people that we're visiting. It's a chance for people, local people just learn a little bit more about our maritime heritage. Our crew spends time answering questions. We sell little pieces of the pride of t shirts and hats, and it's a big part of our mission. The Soviet and well, have talked very extensively about the economic prosperity of Maryland. And I think that that aspect of the mission. But why do it in the authentic. Baltimore Clipper. Why not do it in a luxury vessel? Why not have two countries on board? Well, you know, fancy amenities. Why? Why this way? Well, I think that Maryland has some very special maritime heritage that we like people to know about that is characteristic of Maryland and the Bay. And this ship is really a seagoing symbol of our maritime heritage and a part of the history of our state that we'd like to share. And to do it in fiberglass with Jacuzzis really wouldn't represent some of the character of the state. What makes the captain special? This captain, our captain. Oh, gosh. She's probably one of the most well-rounded people we've ever worked with. He's an excellent technical sailor. He has a fine appreciation and knowledge of maritime history.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/114048/file/216786#t=4.48,124.89"},{"id":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/114048/file/216786/transcript/61538/annotation/2","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"He's terrific with the public. He's wonderful with the media. And he's somebody we can really count on to to get the boat where it needs to be. Let me ask one final question. So you've been on it now for a day and a half. I feel like it's a lot longer than that. What personal feelings have now? Has it fleshed out anything you feel, anything that's different about your not your job, not your relation with private, just about this vessel and what it means to the people of Maryland and Baltimore? Anything. Oh, I think I think it's something we really can be proud of it. I tell you, I stood watch from 11 to 3 a.m., and that was almost a kind of a mystical experience to be out in the with the moon and the gray and the silver shades on the ocean. And I think it really is for me, almost a once in a lifetime experience. And it's brought me closer to the people that I work with and made me feel not just part of the land team, but part of the whole ocean going team. Thank you. Okay. You. And you need to tell us who you are and what your job and do this. Mary Kirby. And my job here is second mate, which is a watch officer and a safety officer on this boat. Does that mean that you're a second or third man or second, this captain for a second, and then I'm part engineer, Cook and the ship's carpenter, which we don't have right now. Well, of all the boats that sailed on Friday, Baltimore one and two, the only boats that are public relations oriented instead of, say, charter. So surprised at the number of people in Baltimore that showed interest, showed active interest, not just money donations. But coming down to the boat, asking questions. I was I was really astounded, especially in places, Chesapeake City, Saint Mary's City. There was a lot of places visited there that I didn't. But God, people were everywhere. Why do you think? Care. I mean, it's one thing to be curious, to be interested, but why do people care about this? I'm not really sure. One thing is, is it it's a beautiful, romantic maritime heritage. That's definitely Chesapeake Bay. When you see this type of wreck, that's Chesapeake Bay boat. And the history of it is really neat. I'm not sure if everybody's aware of it or if they might have read about it in the past about pirate books or the rum trading or even slavery, how fast these boats were and how they captured the British ships and win that war. But I'm not sure if everybody is aware of this. It's just that everybody that comes down to the boat knows that this is this. Somehow they don't always know that it's owned by the state of Maryland, but it's somehow very involved with this state. And a lot of people actually think it belongs to Baltimore, which isn't true. But they show really a lot of interest in community development. Maybe that's it. They really they're really interested in their own community development and and take pride in their in their place that they're from, which I see in Connecticut.
