Oh, thank you, Jacki. You are the picture of beauty in your in your pink outfit today. And it's good to have. Thank you. And I know that we're in for some very, very good fashions that you brought along with you. I want to know, just looking at you at the looks like the perfect size. How did you become interested in fashions for the overweight, the oversize woman? Well, Jackie, in doing that, I was doing custom sewing and I had a couple of friends that were full size women. And they kept saying that you have to sew for me. And it was at first kind of shaky, you know, for me to do it because it was a new experience. But after doing that, and I saw that they were very grateful and I saw that you could do as much for this full size woman as a smaller one. I just began. I fell in love with it and as I would do garments and would find the easiest way to fit the body, I just totally fell in love with full sizes. You know, it's kind of interesting to me with the fashion world that's been around for whatever number of years. It seems like the oversize woman was just discovered a couple of years ago. Why is that, do you think? Well, I think mentally a lot of full size women themselves feel that I can't wear this or I can't wear that. And I find in the fashion industry that doing it on the level that they do it in the industry, it's hard to fit the full size. WOMAN It's almost impossible to go in and just find something readymade. So it's a custom thing, it's a personal thing, and it's something that you have to challenge, really.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/105516/file/206276#t=160.69,255.88"},{"id":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/105516/file/206276/transcript/48921/annotation/3","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"But I love it. And they can do almost anything that they want to wear as if it's just their body. Aside from the obvious, what sorts of problems are sewing for the plus size women create? Are there any special props? Well, I find that most women emphasize that they may have a different in the arms or the bust or the hip. Some may have a very small waistline. So in doing the alterations of it, you have to really alter this garment to that person. But really, it's no problem, no trouble shooters there that you can't put in if you get the measurements of that person. And this cater to that body as with the hair or the face with anything else. Any special do's and don'ts in terms of choosing a pattern or selection, do what you would see another person that you can end by wearing and know your body. You know, once you know your body and what you can put on that body and it looks good, you have to feel good about yourself. That is the do's and don'ts to me. If you feel good, you can do it. It's your personality that really makes you look good at your garments. Okay. Are we just about ready to see some of those fabulous fashions you've brought along? Yes. And all of these are your designs, is that correct? Yes. Great. Okay, let's get started. Okay. And the first person that we saw on would be Petite. Pepi is wearing a two piece mohair suit. Okay. This is Tope and Gray with a little black panic. This is very tapered at the hip line, but the very straight skirt with the kick. Billy. The cardigan jacket with the tapered shoulders. The jacket can be worn over another skirt or other pants.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/105516/file/206276#t=256.329,354.73"},{"id":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/105516/file/206276/transcript/48921/annotation/4","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"And she's excellent in that with the braids. Wow. Now, did you create the pattern or this is a pattern that you found and worked with? I created that pattern, but I also use commercial patterns and work with them. Okay, Next. Okay. And this is going. Linda. Linda is wearing a patchwork jacket. I tried to give her the Oriental look. That's beautiful. Okay, this jacket is reversible. She's wearing the moray t shirt, the camisole that extended to the wider fluted skirt that's made of the velvet, which you will see The piping the all been on the front of the jacket is made from all that's in uniform. Glenda is one of our favorite on the show. And Sue Balfour all make up. Yes but this one we're having, Janice and Renata. They're doing a total some showing of the contrast of the fabrics and how versatile they can be. But now Guard is more on the trumpet. So she's wearing her belt pat on the side. Janice's skirt is uplifted bottom, and she has the black contrast in her jacket, her blouse, two accents, and she's wearing a black lace, got to carry hers off, and she's also wearing the pearls. This is the garment that you can go from church to dinner. And some ladies have affairs at work that sometimes really have to dress up to put that. And this garment can be worn in any size and mostly any very soft fabric that we want to. You know, I notice the length. The length that you're showing is rather long. Is that a do for the oversize woman? I love the long lip on the other oversize woman, basically because it gives you height, and especially if you wear heels. And we find that the shorter skirts to me and the oversize woman usually have a problem with the going up.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/105516/file/206276#t=355.27,463.55"},{"id":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/105516/file/206276/transcript/48921/annotation/5","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"Or are they? Okay, what do we have here? We have a lot. Yes. Right now we were just working with Patricia, who's my color Truth. We are on a two piece wool. So this is the cardigan jacket again. If she chooses to wear her calf, turned up with a small pocket on the top of the jacket, and she's wearing a two hour skirt, actually it on the side in his pocket. And she takes it in that with the camisole. Fantastic. You can see the seniors wearing a very easy dress. This dress is 100% cotton. Okay. It just flowed at the bottom as you want, which I think is very pretty for the poor woman. If she has high and she's wearing it with the double breasted bed. Okay. This is 100% cotton. And also, it's a dress that you can go to work in and then go out in that dress just as the other one. But it's never such obvious contrast. It's not all one color, which gives a fluid line. Yes. Thing. So the contrast is okay? Yes, very much so. Okay. And this is early. Praline is one of the customers that I work with a lot in doing the facades to get a custom fit. She's wearing a two piece wool suit. The wool suit has a straight cardigan jacket again, and the skirt is straight. It has buttons on the side. It has the tapered shoulder and nice slim sleeves. One of the things that I find also in large sizes is the industry gives the ladies a lot of very big sleeves and it gives you a lot of very full dresses at the bottom saying that you have to cover it up as if you're hiding, as you're hiding it, but you don't have to hide.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/105516/file/206276#t=464.33,560.46"},{"id":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/105516/file/206276/transcript/48921/annotation/6","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"You can easily have clothes to fit you and slim their eyes rather than covering them. We are on a walk in suits. Okay. And this suit is very full. The jacket is very full at the top and has the place in the back. I was like, okay. Yes, it is. Okay. And then you have the collar the past couple of days with the cholera. It looks very stunning with the up color and of the place at the bottom of the skirt, which is very fluid when she walks. Okay, that's a very straight skirt. And this will be shown in my spring line and a very lightweight fabric, also known as Where's Made Togo's collections located? Okay, very well. Located on right in Town Road at 6214 Reisterstown Road. All right. Because I know we're going to get loads of calls about you today. This is fabulous. Do we have any more? Okay. I guess this is a part of a finale, isn't it? We do have some more coming up. First, we're going to take a break so we can let the models rest up for a minute. I'm going to see some more. That plus size woman fashions in just a minute. Please stay with. Welcome back. We're here with Mae Tuggle, who is showing off some of her fabulous fashion for the plus sized woman. We will be doing our own manufacturing on the premises here. We will have a large selection of my spring things in that you can come in and buy anything off the rack. The Japanese yen. Glenda, Again, Glenda is wearing a two piece wall. This is a very lightweight hunter. Believe it or not, you can go from the winter into the spring with this fabric. It's an import. This is an expensive mat with a soft crate. The same blouse that is the same as the underlining in her coat. One thing you'll find with the full figured woman is it's very important to have your garment lined. It gives you a better flow. Lining makes the difference. And a very quality fabric. Now what happens? Do. Do your customers come to you with their patterns and with their fabrics and say, Now may make me an outfit? Yes. You make me look good. Yes. Fabrics sort the patterns with a picture from a magazine. Go to one of the bigger stores. They bring it in. Oh, yeah. Okay. And this is Sheila, as is very stunning in the two piece Black and Pulled. So it doesn't have to be vertical. It could be hard to, because you can change the design. You can take a vertical and work with it. And now we have Patsy again. Patricia is wearing a three piece. So this is a part of the tunic and the long overcoat and the cropped pants, which are fabulous. Okay. And that's showing, you know, that the Tony, if you take it off, you can really feel very comfortable in it. You feel a little Senate, but yet you're not overpowered with the large amount of fabric that has it. Yes. Would you take that off and place? Oh, this is fantastic. Just beautiful. Now, a lot of times I've noticed with the full size woman there is a kind of a dip or hiking in the back of the clothes. How do you avoid that? That is avoided by the left. You get the length of your skirt and you get it personally hemmed. You have to have it to keep the elevation on the bed. You just can't buy your dress and the front knot. You have to have in him multiple times. You should buy longer dresses. Janice is wearing a very stunning pink wool suit in the in grade Manila is gray, a very soft gray. She's excellent in that with the mop camisole. Okay. You have to keep it in the back and it's very straight, which is another problem that most full sized ladies feel. And I said, you can if you have company, come in and just put it on and do your thing in it at home, or you can just decide, okay, we go in our promo code, all of it, and we go on for a while. You can do your thing and then go back, go out with ever. Okay, what do we have net now? We have early. This is a part of our cruise line. You know, right after the holidays, everybody's going on vacation and Erling and Banana, it's doing black and white at that. This is the show. You see the way black and white poke at that, which I think is very stunning. But the straight guard and the cell collar, I dropped the collar in the back to give an illusion and see the tires on the side of the fluted bottom skirt, which is very straight. You have blouse paths on the side and the nedda is wearing a two piece. Whites go with the trunk, a skirt, a very simple pullover top and a very full jacket. And here again, you've dispel the myth about the polka dot. Yeah, because these are huge budget. All right, You do that, and they are beautiful on. Fantastic. Fantastic. Is that all of our fashions? Well, it started as fun. I was working in the telephone company, and I will make myself a couple of pieces, and they look like, look, you know, I would wear them in the girls because of the colors. And I. I love fabrics. I love to offer colors. The girl would ask me to sew for them and I thought it from that. And then I started taking a couple of dolls for doing this sewing. And from there, I just. It happened. It really happened. Then I found that my inner ability, which is my creative gift from God, I found out it just began to flow. The more I did it, the more creative I found myself to be doing it. So how long has been of boutique and open? Boutique now has been open for three months, but since 81 I've been doing it as a business in the city. And again, you're located at 6214 Reisterstown Road. Well, this is absolutely fabulous. And when will you have your spring collection so that we can see the the fullness of it all in totality? We'll working on that now in the next month. Maybe I should be finished with my line and I'll be coming on and we will be having more like a wholesale. Thank you, ladies. Fashion. Okay, we have Sheila again wearing a trumpet dress with a drape top. Okay, raise your hand. This is orange and white, again, showing a very big print on the pole, lady. Very big print. But it's made to fit her body. It's not made to give you an illusion of trying to make the look smaller in a larger dress is sexy. Yes, very much. It really is. We gave Annetta what her body is Another very straight dress, very slim to rise and very, very stunning. And the color is something that a full size lady will stay away from. But it's very pretty. Yes. Okay, We're back now and we're going to continue with our fashion fitness fun on the line. And we now have with us Noelle Sewell, who is a certified aerobics instructor. Welcome to City nine. Thank you. And we have just learned. We have just learned that she is not from our area. You're from Philadelphia and you're the only one on the East Coast doing what's right and able to certify. That's right. I'm the only one. Fantastic. How did you get started? Well, five years ago, I was living in this area. I was going to community college and I was about £350. Oh. And I felt like I didn't really want to lose weight, but I wanted to get fit. But where is there? Where a large woman can go to feel comfortable? And so I decided that I would try to find a way to get certified and teach classes. But at that time, certification really wasn't really in, you know, it's just getting started. So I started working with the mentally retarded, the deaf, and that's how I ease my way up. And then when I left Baltimore to go to Philadelphia Temple, they had a program for developmental disabilities and I started the program there. And then I said, Well, it's time for me to break out and get into for the larger size. Okay, So you do it a year ago. You do this type of aerobic for all special populations. Okay? What do you mean? All special populace, disabled people with physical, mental handicaps have seniors as well. Some people in my class, muscular dystrophy, cerebral palsy, women who have had surgery, pelvic surgery, that kind of thing.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/105516/file/206276#t=1325.57,1577.64"},{"id":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/105516/file/206276/transcript/48921/annotation/14","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"What do you take into consideration when you're doing it then, for the special classes that everybody's individual? We all start off on an individual level, no matter what your weight, your height, your age, because there are some people who are thin, who are not fit. You know, thinness doesn't mean fitness, you know, because I had some people in my class, we wonder how I can do what I can do, but it's endurance, flexibility and strength. That's all what it means to be aerobically fit. Look, not size a weight. What kinds of things do that as a person have to be careful about before getting into a vigorous exercise? You should go by a step program, which I do in all my classes incorporate walking, which I think is the best aerobic exercise. I encourage you to go on the outside and do swimming or exercise with your fans. Like if they have young children, go to a place where they can exercise with children and parents together or, you know, those type of things. And I think if you keep doing it after a while, you'll know your body. If you listen to your body, you'll know when you're ready to move on to the next level. Okay. So you're basically about strengthening what? The heart. The heart, because that's not a role. The definition of aerobics is using oxygen to raise the level of efficiency and effectively that your heart works. Now, that's according to the American College of Sports Medicine. So aerobics doesn't mean you lose weight. That's a secondary benefit. The primary benefit is the cardiac benefit. Now, it's interesting, you said when you started, you you did not want to lose. The struggle to end drug abuse in Baltimore City is a tough challenge that now has been taken to the children. Kids helping kids say no to drugs is an ambitious project aimed at helping kids avoid the pitfalls of drug abuse. Joining me now to talk about this project is Barbara Dungey of the Substance abuse Prevention program for the Baltimore Housing Authority. Ms.. Dungy, thank you for taking this time with us this afternoon. It's my pleasure. Tell us then, what is the project about kids helping kids say no to drugs? The project is basically about leading youngsters to other wholesome activities that would be something different from the environment that unfortunately, they are now faced with. We have formed a committee called the Substance Abuse Prevention Program Committee that's made up of representatives from the Baltimore City Housing Authority, the Mayor's Council on Criminal Justice, the Tenant Services Division of Housing, the Baltimore City Police Department and the Baltimore Public Schools. What are we jumping right here and say that this is an ambitious project? We have a very short time.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/105516/file/206276#t=1951.8,2077.77"},{"id":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/105516/file/206276/transcript/48921/annotation/17","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"This is an ambitious project and that you have targeted several specific areas in Baltimore City, namely Housing Project. Is that correct? That's correct. And when we started and incidentally, we were the first to start in Baltimore City in November of 1985, when we went to Dunbar High School for the first rally. We're very proud to be able to say that the poets and Bob Waide came there to lead us in a cheer. Just say no to drugs. We've come a long way since then. And we went to Cherry Hill in May for our next rally, May of last year and May coming. We're planning to have a citywide event whereby youngsters all over the city are invited to register to march with us and participate in the rally. How do you do that? You called 3964538 and say that you are a member of an organized or organization and you would like to participate in the parade. That is going to end at Rush Field in the Inner Harbor. Now, specifically, tell us some specifics about this project. How many projects are involved? How do you reach the kids? We reach the kids by going into a development and saying, who wants to join us in the war to say no against drugs? And we have gone from four developments and 40 kids to now nine developments and about 400 kids. Interestingly enough, we want the youngsters to feel that it's quite a privilege to belong to the club. So we take them on trips. One trip we took them on was to the White House to see Nancy Reagan and President Reagan. I have a picture here if we can take a look at some of our youngsters that live in our housing developments, shaking hands with Nancy as she encourages them and our effort, the housing projects.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/105516/file/206276#t=2078.31,2181.48"},{"id":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/105516/file/206276/transcript/48921/annotation/18","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"This is a very ambitious project in that the housing some housing projects, let's say, here in Baltimore City, are notoriously known for their drug abuse. And the the element of drugs and the kind of drug dealings that goes on in some of these projects. That is a very, very tough, tough undertaking was done. Yes. How are you dealing with that? And have you seen any results? Well, I'm going to say yes. Sergeant Andre Street and Agent Stickles and their staff came to me to say, we know we are doing enforcement, but we need to do a little bit more. We need to instill pride. What can we do to get the youngsters to think positively about themselves and their community? This is how it all began. And with the input of all interested committee members who are so enthusiastic about what we are doing, it is really the enthusiasm of the parents, the youngsters that's making this the success that it is. You're taking. A positive message then to the children. What about that negative element of the drug dealer that seems to permeate many of Baltimore's housing projects? How are you dealing with that? Cleaning up the projects? Are you dealing with that at all by enforcement? Those families that violate the leases know that the end result sorrowfully means the loss of their home. But you see, now we're trying to bring in another ingredient, the Drug Assistance Network, than we call it, whereby staff is referring these troubled families for help. Those that want assistance can contact the tenants services division, and they will lead them to those agencies that provide the kind of assistance and help that's needed. My question is, are you getting the drug dealer out of the projects? We are getting the drug dealers to move from project to project.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/105516/file/206276#t=2182.35,2290.46"},{"id":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/105516/file/206276/transcript/48921/annotation/19","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"Unfortunately, they are not gone, but we keep them on the run and that's the only way Now we know how to combat this. Okay. First of all, let me explain what cerebral palsy is. Cerebral palsy is a disorder in the brain, which gives the lack of muscle control throughout the body. Everybody knows in order to do any type of movement of the body, your muscles are in control. That that's from swallowing to to walking, skipping even the movement of your fingers. And when the brain does not signal that movement, then there is a handicap present. Cerebral palsy may occur during pregnancy at delivery, or a child could be born absolutely normal and later develop cerebral palsy. I know now Kenya is a beautiful child, You know, to sit here and I've met her and she says, Sweet. What type of impact has it had on her development? Okay. When we first found out she had cerebral palsy, she was about nine months. We noticed she wasn't crawling like babies usually crawl on the knees in the hand. She was doing a sliding movement. And at that time we were very concerned. Also, when she would pull up, she would stand straight on her tiptoe and you couldn't even move the foot flat on the floor. The muscles were tight and straight. So for that reason, we seek a medical opinion. We took her to an orthopedics, and after that we found out she had cerebral palsy. Now, John, what then? Once you learned, what then did it require of you and Archie to help Kenya along and still allow her to develop? First, you have to find out where you could go for help. I wasted a lot of time at Kennedy talking to different people. I went to a lot of different therapies, stuff like that. They applied CAS to relays, so they figured they would straighten out later, but it didn't happen.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/105516/file/206276#t=2486.1,2624.16"},{"id":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/105516/file/206276/transcript/48921/annotation/21","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"So from the time she was one until the first part of 86, we've been in and out of hospitals, different operations, and it's just therapy, a lot of therapy. Are there things that you do in your own home for her, like flexing their muscles or any other exercises? Yes, floor exercises for working with her leg, stretching the muscle cords. That's a lot to help her a lot in a balance because she has a lot of balance. What kind of outside support have you been able to find to help you with Kim? Well, Delray is real good Help Is her school, right? It was her school. She just started a public school. This wonderful since is first grade. She entered Delray around two and a half years old, and we had to actually fight to get her in. The Del Rey is primarily a preschool for children with cerebral palsy. And we had heard about Del Rey on a telethon and we knew she would get the best of whatever there was to offer at Del Rey. All right. Now, you mentioned that, so we have to get the VCP telephone. Yes. Okay. Yes, we heard about Del Rey on the United Cerebral Palsy telethon, which will be coming up a week from today. Yes. And with the funds raised from that, people who have this handicap are able to get wheelchairs, the canes, whatever equipment that is adjusted for each individual doing their therapy, also educational equipment. It provides a number of facilities for people with cerebral palsy. We know that she keeps up a strength Wouldn't be lazy at. She could do a lot with this. Just a thing of just waiting. It's a long waiting period. Change is only comes along. Now we want to mention a couple of things. First of all, that that out of the three children, Kenya is the only one who has been diagnosed as having cerebral palsy. Number two, on the telephones, over the years, we haven't seen many black families. This is indeed something that does affect everyone. Oh, definitely. As a matter of fact, at Del Rey, if you ever visit Del Rey, you will see 5050 of the student population there, 50% black, 50% white. And after finding out Kenya has had cerebral palsy, I started talking to many people about this. And right then and there, I heard about other blacks who had children. I knew of relatives, knew of friends who also had that disabling disease. Well, we think you have a TV budding TV talent. She laughs in her cell phone. Do you know what the goal is this year for the telethon? $700,000, $5,000 of that has to be extremely vital to the cause. It is. And also, Kennedy, if you would, just go over to Kennedy and see the all the patients over there who have crippling disease and cerebral palsy are the monies that are raised through the telethon, all so goes there to help people. Now, cerebral palsy will never, ever go away. She will always have cerebral palsy, but through the therapies, she will learn how to use her muscles to walk and move. Okay. But what we do want to say again is that the message that the Bacons have presented today is vital to the cause of raising funds to help the young people and even adults with cerebral palsy.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/105516/file/206276#t=2746.53,2878.21"},{"id":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/105516/file/206276/transcript/48921/annotation/23","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"So we we ask you to please give when we're asked to give. That's been the journey taken by Billy Ocean, whose rapid succession of top ten hits and multiplatinum albums certainly have made him one of the top male vocalist of the eighties. Musically gifted from a very early age, Billy pursued his interest in that area while holding down a day job with a local tailor as Boss showed surprising sympathy with Billy's ambitions and helped him on his way by giving him £30 for piano. Billy was sensible enough to take out insurance of a fallback career with a college course in tailoring. But when his first record on the run was released, his moonlighting cost him his job with the Savile Row firm. He then took an assembly line job with Ford Motors, signed a three year contract with Fenton and divided his time between the two until the call of music became too strong and he became a full time professional singer.
