Why would anyone want to kill their teenage son? So many questions tonight about the Randalstown boy found murdered less than a block away from his home. Those who knew 16 year old Rashard Grogan say he was a really good kid who never got into trouble. And as the weekend team's Kai Jackson reports tonight, police are trying to put the pieces together. Family and friends sitting near the crime scene, stunned. They can't believe that 16 year old Rashard Grogan would be involved in anything that would result in his being shot and killed. Being a good kid, he wasn't into drugs and all that other stuff. He basically stayed home playing video games and was like a big brother to his little brothers. But he came back last night. I won't sleep, I don't want. I woke up and mother starts telling me what I hear. And she was like, oh, didn't I? Grogan's body was discovered in the backyard of this home a block away from where he lived. Police believe he was shot at least once in the chest. The owner of the home found them around eight in the morning. We think the shooting happened shortly after midnight. Neighbors in this immediate area report hearing argument and a single gunshot. But it wasn't until this morning after 8:00, the body was found. Grogan's mother had reported him missing. Around 1:00 yesterday afternoon when he failed to come home. She and other family members went looking for him. They didn't find him, but they did find his new bicycle.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136381/file/252967#t=125.48,242.16"},{"id":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136381/file/252967/transcript/71273/annotation/3","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"It was just yards away from where his body was later discovered. Police speculate the Rashard Grogan could have been shot somewhere along this street, or even in the driveway of this home, as he tried to flee. They say it's possible. He then ran into the backyard after he was shot, where he collapsed and later died. Police say Grogan had a small amount of marijuana in one of his pockets, but they don't know if it was connected with the shooting. We think it was, at least one other man or several men, possibly in a car. But we don't have a description at this point. Rashard Grogan would have been a junior this year at Woodlawn High School. For the weekend, teen Kai Jackson, channel 13 Eyewitness News. The investigation is continuing and an autopsy is planned for this week. Police say the death of a two year old shot by his uncle was an accident, and Arundel County police say two year old Lamar Deers was in bed asleep yesterday when a bullet discharged from his uncle's gun, traveled through a wall and hit him in the eye. Police say the uncle, Reginald Kerrick, may have been carrying the gun for protection from men who shot him during a fight last month. No charges have been filed against Kerrick. Four year old Brianna Pritchett is back home with her mother tonight after she was allegedly abducted by two teenage girls on Friday. The girls brought the child back to her mother's house late last night, a day after she was taken from a shopping center. A close call for a city police officer who was hurt as his car went spinning out of control this afternoon. It happened just before 1:00 on Green Spring Avenue in northwest Baltimore. The officer, whose name hasn't been released, was responding to a call for backup when he lost control of his car in the car, flipped over. He was treated at Sinai Hospital and released. No one else hurt, but the street was blocked for several hours as investigators cleaned up the mess. Traffic problems are a Labor Day tradition here in Maryland, as you know. But if you're heading back from the beach, you probably won't run into any backups tonight. Our traffic team reports most of the traffic tie ups will be at the end of the holiday tomorrow. This is the third day of talks between the United States and Cuba on ways to stop the flood of Cuban refugees. Talks resumed today at the UN mission across the street from the United Nations Building in New York City. A group of anti-Castro demonstrators gathered outside the mission, calling for the Clinton administration to take a hard line against the Cuban president. The U.S. has been waiting for Cuba's answers to a list of proposals presented on Friday. The U.S. wants to expand legal immigration in exchange for Castro's promise to stop the refugee exodus on rafts and boats. There was no comment from the Cubans prior to the start of today's meeting. Well, also starting today, the U.S. Navy ships Comfort's mission to Cuba. Well, and if you're watching down the ocean, we know there's some problems down there, doctor Bob, but what is, what's the prediction out there for the beach? Actually, the key, heavy surf advisories and, strong wind and coastal flooding advisories are still in effect. High tide down at the ocean, by the way, at Ocean City occurs between 7 and 8 tonight, seven and eight tomorrow morning and seven and eight tomorrow night. We're coming up on a new moon, and that gives us unusually high astronomical tides. So with the onshore wind, that's the basis of the coastal flooding advisory. We've got little horses behind us with carts, and, we've got generally clear skies. Let me show you what the temperatures are around the state. We are cooling down into the 60s in many spots. 70 degrees is our temperature here in Baltimore, but out to the west, 67 at Hagerstown, 67 at Salisbury. And it's been chilly and kind of cloudy down at the ocean. Here's our wider satellite view. And you notice that coastal system making its way, lumbering its way up the coast. It is intensifying. If you're headed out of the Bay tomorrow, it's going to be another breezy day. Although not quite as windy as it was, say, around midday in early afternoon today. Look for northeast winds five or 10 to 20 knots. That is a two foot chop bay water temperature in the mid 70s. And we'll review the ocean conditions once again. It's going to be a windy. More clouds and sunshine tomorrow. I think we're going to lean a little toward the pessimistic side. Keep our fingers crossed. Maybe we'll get a little more sunshine out of this air temperature and water temperature, though only to 70 degrees for the rest of tonight. Though really pretty pleasant around here. At shock trauma. Guns and violence seem to be epidemic in the Baltimore area for children. The youngest, just 18 months old, have become victims in recent days. All right, all right, well, I'll start right in with, Labor Day. Yes. That's, we do have, we have kind of a chilly fall, like, evening going for us tonight. And now we have it. Kind of a breezy, cool day today. Some improvement tomorrow, but it's just not going to be the end of a hot, summery kind of weekend that we so often have at this time of year. So, start with temperatures around the area right now, 59 degrees, what our thermometer shows and many areas have fallen below 50 degrees. Some of them, particularly the urban areas hanging up here in the mid 60s, 64 DC. All the action, the weather this weekend has been in the coastal areas. You folks down at the beach know what I'm talking about. And the winds that have been down there, a coastal flood advisory that has been in effect and continues in effect until tomorrow afternoon. Gale warning warnings and heavy surf advisories continue along the coast. Those waves today that we're up to 12ft offshore now they're down to 6 to 8ft. But that heavy surf is still with us. And this system here has been working its way along the coast. Here's how it evolves through the course of today. And skies did break a bit during the latter part of the day, allowing some sunshine to come through. But the winds are still there, and we're still expecting to have problems with the surf tomorrow and temperatures tomorrow not going to be all that warm. We're expecting to get to the low to the mid 70s or so inland, only 70 degrees on the beach. This is the problem. Pretty good storm system working its way along the coast. Counterclockwise circulation coupled with this high bringing in a real strong east and northeast flow. And like I said, that'll be diminishing during the course of tomorrow, but not disappearing entirely. Some of those beaches that were closed today may open tomorrow, but I wouldn't count on it at this point. The rest of us are in for day with a fair amount of sunshine, albeit cool temperatures downtown. We may get to 77 degrees, but look for mid 70s more typically with some lots of sunshine and less wind than we've had the last couple of days. We going out in the bay. For those of us in the central part of the state, 76 degrees will be our high on Monday and then beyond that into the what will be the workweek after the holiday. We don't expect to get to 80 degrees, so it's certainly going to be a cool fall-like pattern coming in our direction.
