The search is over for the canoeist who capsized on a Columbia lake. His body was found early this morning by a park visitor. It was a hot day Friday and 43 year old Larry Neale of Baltimore was out on the waters of Centennial Lake. He was alone when somehow his canoe tipped over and he fell out and disappeared. The accident happened about 30ft from shore. Rescue workers searched for Neil Friday until dark and again on Saturday, but couldn't find him. Park officials have this advice for boaters this holiday weekend. Have their lighted safe jackets definitely buckled and always on board and that they're centered in the boats safely. Did this person have a life jacket? Yes, I do. And what happened then? It's really unknown at this point. There are unconfirmed reports that Neil's lifejacket was not properly secured around him. The investigation into his drowning is continuing. Well, beginning today, the state of Maryland is rescuing people who have Aids and have become too sick to stay on their jobs when they leave work. The Aids patients have been relying on medical assistance to handle their medical bills. But Lowell Dale reports tonight on a new program that pays bills and saves the state money at the same time. Tim Miller's hobby is a fragile one, though many would say, Tammy, his own life is a lot more fragile than the doll house she builds. Tammy has Aids. Oh, no. Now, I don't have any health insurance anymore. I don't have to go to medical assistance. I don't have to switch doctors. My doctor won't pick up medical assistance because there's a lot of doctors offices. When you walk right in, it says right there. And we don't accept medical assistance. Starting today, the state is trying to help people with Aids stay insured. We're talking about a population that has private insurance and wants to continue their private insurance so that they can continue a life of dignity and some continuity of care. Maryland Department of Health Secretary Nelson Sabatini says the state is now prepared to relieve that burden for 150 people with Aids taking over their insurance payments totaling $450,000. The catch is the state saves $2.2 million in medical assistance in the long run. Back in Baltimore, Timmer left hopes that the idea of a state insurance program that would carry over the debilitating effects of Aids is a moot point. She doesn't expect Aids will ever force her out of a job. She says she can beat this thing. In Annapolis, little doubt Channel 13 business news to get insurance companies to go along with this trial program. Today was no different as Harbor Place celebrates its 10th birthday. So it's been a wonderful celebration so far. And today, there was a special group of seniors who participated in this in a very particular way. They're entertainers from the Essex Community College. Today, some of those seniors are celebrating a revived Baltimore with song and dance. The good times singers and happy time tappers from Essex Community College put on a show that proves that seniors are part of a new and more exciting Baltimore. My daughter said on my 65th birthday this past year, whoever heard of getting my mother tap shoes at when she was 65 years old? But Peggy loves to dance, and so does one of her chorus mates, Mary Mae Briscoe. It's something I've always wanted to do, and I feel I'm fulfilling a dream. And to these seniors, Harbor Place is a dream come true and gives them a chance to relate to young and old. Those at Harbor Place today enjoy the show. And that's why these seniors love what they do. So we did have some severe weather. And let's go look and see how the satellite saw this day. We had some thunderstorms develop in the late afternoon. This takes us back to the early morning hours when clouds were moving on out. But as we get into, oh, big there this afternoon, thunderstorms were developing across the area and these thunderstorms were very severe down in the D.C. area in particular, two hail of the size of golf balls, two tennis balls reported over on the eastern shore in southern Virginia. So a real episode there actually, in a tragic event. There were 16 people in a lightning strike event that were injured out in Martinsburg, West Virginia. So some substantial damage occurred as a result of those thunderstorms. It passed through the air. The excitement is over now. And in fact, the things have pretty much cooled off actually below 70 degrees on the eastern shore. We're in the mid 70s or so right now.
