Okay, well, Marty's going to be back with a full forecast in about eight minutes. But first, let's get to a look at this top story this morning. With the stark light of day. There are some very, very painful questions to be answered this morning. But they're not going to change the horrifying outcome. A seven year old child outside at midnight last night without any adults around, was hit by a car and killed. But the tragedy could have been even worse. You see, the seven year old was with a six year old who miraculously was not hurt. The accident happened at Charles and Croydon. Police say two young children were reported missing earlier in the day, but officers aren't sure if they're the victims. So far, no names have been released and charges are pending against the driver of the car. Some very sad, sad things to think about this morning too, about the damage caused by a very stubborn fire in Carroll County. It happened at an apartment building on 40 East Baltimore Street in Tawny Town. Fire broke out just after 5:00 this morning, and it quickly spread to two alarms at 7:00 this morning. Firefighters were still trying to gain control of that blaze. We have an Eyewitness News crew on the scene, and we'll bring you the very latest as soon as we can. There were no injuries reported in traffic there, we're told, is back to normal this morning. And now for our official check on the Saturday morning traffic, here's Robert Rush Altman. Hey, rush. Good morning. Rush out there. Maybe not. Can we get rush off? Shoot. All right, well, rush is specifically looking hard at the traffic out there, and hopefully we'll get in touch with him as soon as we can. If you're heading down the ocean. All right. In other news this morning, a former Calvert Hall teacher is charged with having sex with one of her students, and the student claims the affair went on for five years while he was still in school. Weekend team's Dennis Edwards reports. Several weeks ago, we were approached by a young man who said that when he was 17 years old and a student at Calvert Hall High, he began a relationship with his English teacher and drama advisor. The relationship between Joe and Grace con and the former student seemed to start innocently. Con was his drama teacher at Calvert Hall College High School. In a statement to police, the 17 year old says they became close friends when she gave him several rides home. Then one day, the student says con expressed feelings for him and the relationship quickly became sexual.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136453/file/253045#t=314.55,408.55"},{"id":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136453/file/253045/transcript/71297/annotation/5","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"He says it included several sexual rendezvous at his house and her former home in the Mount Washington area. Police say the 17 year old decided to file charges against her a few weeks ago, when she told a mutual friend to tell him hello. He told our investigator that in late spring of this year, he ran across a former student, former co student, who said that Joanne said, hi. This being the teacher's name. He told us that that triggered some memories that he didn't want to relive. For the weekend team Dennis Edwards, WJZ, Eyewitness News. And I always thought, you got to be crazy. A lot of people have cheetahs for pets. Why? I mean, forget about I mean, forget about the fact that that's why. Forget about the fact that could get dangerous and turn on your bad enough cleaning up after Doberman. Yeah. Let's take a look at the forecast for the day. But I always thought, you know, you got to be crazy. Stand next to. You mean a tight look. We got some people from the zoo over here. A tyger, tyger, tyger going after you. Even if it's an unruly classroom, right away, you've got everyone's attention. Yeah, you do a really good teaching tool. Red shouldered hawks are indigenous to the northeast United States, and we do have them in this area. More than likely, if you're seeing a hawk that out close to the road or in an open area, it's going to be a red tailed hawk, which are very similar, a little larger. And instead of having all this rufous color here, it would be a very, whitish or cream color, and then they'd have bands. You know, now we have, you know, blends and whatnot, but man made fabrics. But there was a time when it was little critters like this that, you know, basically helped. The mother, will build a large mound or nest, and what she'll do is lay the eggs in there, and then she covers it with vegetation. Now it's a natural compost pile. The composting pile gets up to about 80 degrees, and that's what incubates the eggs. Incredible. No. Okay. I mean, we're talking about a natural link here, right? Fortunately, no one was hurt in the accident. Well, experience causes a lot of teams to have accidents within the first year of getting their driver's license. But Maryland's Motor Vehicle Administration is now trying to change all that. Weekend team's Mike show reports on a first time program to help first time drivers. This Glen Burnie mother and son team are on a mission which will change the boy's life. His learner's permit will be replaced with a provisional license. Jonathan Gray is also the first driver in the state to get a rookie designation. This month, everyone applying for a learner's permit will get one of these stickers that identifies to all other drivers. We got a new driver out there. It asks them to give that driver some help. Not some horn and worse. The NBA says 44% of drivers with learner's permits have a collision before their 17th birthday. With this sticker, they'll still get real life driving experiences, while other drivers might steer clear of them. You need, some area, you know, like a safety boundary around your car. And you have this is a good possibility. They're going to give it to you. I think it's a pretty good program, and I think it will work as long as the mature, experienced drivers on the road have the maturity to give these, kids the space they need. This program is strictly voluntary. So if the kids don't want to put the bumper sticker on the car, the MVA is appealing to the parents. First of all, for coming and bringing this incredible rosemary. Mine doesn't look anything like this. It's a pleasure. Oh, sure. This is an easy one. We're going to show you, what's available in containers now. I mean, it's a lot different now than just, geraniums and marigolds. People are actually doing an entire small garden in a container. So if you live in a condo, in an apartment, or you just don't want the chore, the work of doing everything, you do it all right here, right? And something you can move around. Also, you can move it to wherever you need some extra color for the day, for wherever the party or whatever. Sure. So what we're going to do is yank this out of here. It's being a little obstinate, let's say, oh boy. Oh my goodness, the root system in this. Well, we're just going to leave him just as it is. Well, for today I have placed him in the back because this is the tall, the tallest element of this particular container. So fragrant. And then what you do, this is already partially filled with the soil. Okay, so we have a good start. And and Carmen has brought one of those lights. Right? It's made of, by the way, this is, you know, plastic or fiberglass. It's called thermal light. It's so beautiful. And it's like terracotta. Right. And so it's very easy to work with, very easy to carry, even when it's fully watered. It's fine. Okay. So we're going to put in next is actually sweet potato vine. it's a variation of good ol sweet potato. And it'll give a nice trailing effect and good contrast. Well, I get sweet potatoes off of it. Well, actually, there is a little tuber that, if you would, wanted to, you could dig up in over overwinter and use it again the following season.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136453/file/253045#t=2742.89,2830.55"},{"id":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136453/file/253045/transcript/71297/annotation/30","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"So beautiful. I mean this is like a grape. Thank you. That's great. Soil just smells so great. Oh, I know it's wonderful. Lots of good things to make it light and make it drain real well, which is important in container planning. Okay, we've got this one. In the next we're going to place what's called a scala. This is another trailing plant with a beautiful kind of purplish blue flower. It's called a blue fan flower. Well just knock it out of the pot. And if the roots are a little overgrown you just tease them out a little bit. So you don't have to really crunch them up like. But you can if you'd like to. You can really be pretty rough with them. But we're putting him on the edge, so it'll already provide some softness to the edge of the planting. Okay. And next, which is kind of an unusual thing, is we're going to use a high discus. Which people don't usually think of as going into containers. And we're going to place him right here making a nice mess. But that's okay. We're going to place it in here. And if you just throw some more dirt and you can already see the difference we have going in color with the chartreuse and the blue and the hibiscus. I mean, it's really looking great already. I mean, this is Herb's hibiscus, right? And another good thing you can do, which I haven't been doing, is throw in some time, release fertilizer, where you just mix a handful in, and that way you just have to worry about the watering and not so much, the fertilizing of the plant. Okay. Okay. Next, continue. One more discus. Well, given that. Which you can already see the effect it's giving you. You see, on the one more scroll here at the end, and we'll turn it a little bit and then a darker color. Sweet potato line. So obviously that in right here it's just the only limit is really your imagination. Absolutely. In a good way to come and just come with your cart and shop around and put them on there. If it looks good together you can put it in a container. Well, Carmen, I'm buying this Rosemary. Thank you. Because mine is about this tall garden. It smells great. And thank you so much. Hanging on down there. We've been delightfully keeping it away from us for yes, indeed. And that is Ephram zeroing in across, through it Hill Park to on Dome and Mall. And that's a happenin thing. Dennis Edwards has given us some details earlier in the weather. You could see when he was reporting. You can see it from our shot. Just perfect head on out there. They've got a whole slew of things planned for tonight. Carrying on over into tomorrow. Go up to the satellite and look down there. You get pretty much the same picture. Some clouds off the Carolina coast, but we couldn't find a cloud in the sky for most of today. Trying real hard. It's just been a beautiful day with blue skies, lots of sunshine, rather intense sunshine, and pleasant temperatures. Here are the Baltimore area. It's going to be a nice evening with, unusual summer starlight during the overnight period. Normally summertime, you expect to see haze, and it's hard to see the stars in the city, but tonight will be an exception. 81 degrees is our temperature right now. Upper 70s to low 80s across the region at this moment. High temperature today four degrees below normal for this first day of August 83rd. That's unofficial right now. We'll get the official number by 11:00 tonight. But it's not going to change by more than a degree or so. And that is pleasantly below normal. Nice northeast breeze today, and this is in no hurry to move off the coast. So tomorrow is going to be a beautiful day, the front effectively blocking the summer humidity and heat to the south of us. So at least one more decent day. And in fact, it looks like it'll carry on over into the beginning of the workweek. Temperatures again below normal humidities down in nice, tolerable range tomorrow. 84 is what we're anticipating here. Just at 80 degrees along the coastal resorts downtown and around town. Okay, well, I would, I would have lost out anyway because the Orioles aren't in town in Kansas City last night for the first of three games against the Royals. Like I said here is Jenny again on 15 with the putt from the fringe. This is a birdie to win the hole. The U.S. players are up five and a half to one and a half. All right. Very good. They're going to work like we're going to go back. We may show you something else. I think, are you? We're probably going to show you what I believe to be. We going to see the pro ball from canton. If you live in canton, Ohio, this is so good. The first time I'm going to show it to you guys. The pros come to town only once a year in canton, Ohio. Because the real reason folks back out in Ohio today was the Hall of Fame inductions. How many players five players were inducted are including Chicago Bear, Mike Singletary, Cincinnati Bengals Anthony Munoz, Washington Redskin in Minnesota, Viking, Paul Crüe's Miami Dolphins Dwight Stephenson and wide receiver Tommy McDonald, who didn't. Quite. How traditional was his acceptance speech? Not at all. I'm going to start with my little woman, Patty, my wife. In fact, when she found out that I was going to enter the Hall of Fame, she says we'd have to go someplace special. I'd like to go someplace that I've never been. And I said someplace special. Someplace you've never been. How about the kitchen? Oh oh. Mr. Tagliabue asked me. He says, why do you take your wife every place that you go? I say, because she's too ugly to kiss goodbye. Just teasing, just teasing. Play as well. And can, I guess.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136453/file/253045#t=7315.96,7420.29"},{"id":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136453/file/253045/transcript/71297/annotation/72","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"Wonder where he sleep in the night.
