New York City has tossed their hat back into the ring in the annual Baltimore Colts sweepstakes. Now remember that big old stadium called Shea will be vacant next fall, and the Jets have uprooted and gone west to the Meadowlands. So, New York Mayor Ed Koch has been shopping for a new tenant, and the Colts look like the easiest sell of the bunch. I confirmed reports today that the mayor's office there is recruiting our team. You know, the reason we have all these potholes in Maryland and in Pennsylvania, Virginia, this part of the country, because of the alternating freezing and thawing weather all the time. You know, daytime temperatures will get above freezing, then at night goes below freezing. All this constant changing in temperature, tiny little hairline crack start, and the water gets in there. And eventually, the water freezes, and it expands, and it takes the asphalt and the concrete along with it. So we're in an area where potholes through. A part of life, I guess, until we design new kinds of roads. Let's take a look at our current conditions. We have some light rain around. It's perfect pothole weather tonight. 41 degrees now. We got into the low 40s with all the clouds around. We didn't get as warm as we thought. Down to our south, it's quite a bit milder. In the 50s over on the eastern shore, the winds are calm. The humidity way up there at 92%. The barometer, 29 .88. It's falling. The air quality, 53. Put us in the moderate range this afternoon. Your tides tomorrow, center -eye 7 -Eleven sets at 5 -30. Some big changes coming up in the weather over the next two days. Some very cold Arctic air is headed our way, and after tonight's rain and tomorrow's chance of some rain, much of the snow, I think probably almost all the snow will be gone, except for the big piles that are left on some of the parking lots. Let's take a look at our national radar. Almost all the rain that's occurring around the United States is here in the east, and it's generally rain from New York State down the east coast. into the Gulf states. Now, the area of rain in our area is moving to the east very slowly and things are going to, overnight we'll just have some light rain around. Later tomorrow another system of rain is moving to the northeast. It's going to brush our region from the south and from the east and the best chance for rain tomorrow will be east of the Chesapeake Bay. We may see a little bit of rain here and then after the rain system goes through More cold air is starting to move into the Northern Plains, and another series of cold fronts will cross the region. We might see a few snow flurries as the cold air begins to move in, especially on Sunday, as the cold air really starts to dive into our region. Late Sunday, this system, you see already some showers up in portions of Minnesota. In our region right now, quite a bit of rain, generally from the Blue Ridge Mountains to the Atlantic Ocean, and it's all moving slowly to the east and to the northeast. So here in the city, look for rain on and off tonight. Nothing heavy, just some light to moderate rain activity. Also some fog around, because the ground's still kind of cold. There's warm air moving in from the south, causing some fog to form. Taking a look at our cloud cover tonight, a lot of clouds here in the east, especially down to the southeast over Florida. Even Florida's going to get cold over perhaps by Monday. In fact, Monday night in central and northern Florida, there could be some more frost and freezing temperatures. There's some real cold air starting to move into the northern plains. It's going to be diving southeast. I mean, really. moving in like a freight train from Siberia. By Sunday night, we're gonna see a real drop in temperature. Let's take a look at tomorrow's map. I'll show you where the cold air is coming from. A little storm east of the Great Lakes tomorrow will be the leading edge of this super cold outbreak. This is almost as cold as the cold air we had for Christmas and the real cold air mass we had about two weeks ago. Monday night, as this cold air moves into the region, we could get down to zero degrees again here in Baltimore Monday night. Tomorrow in Chicago, 31, but they'll be in the low teens on Sunday afternoon, well below zero by Monday morning. The super cold air, 10 below the high tomorrow in Winnipeg, and this cold front will be moving across that region. To our east tomorrow, a little weak storm causing some rain along the eastern shore. We might get a little bit more rain tomorrow. As you can see, lots of rain in central and eastern Maryland tonight. 44 in D .C., 50 in Richmond, 58 degrees. That's where the warm air is down in Norfolk, Virginia right now. 54, Salisbury 52, and Dover wins tomorrow. shifting to the West 6 to 12 miles an hour. It's a little cooler out to the West upper thirties and some of that slightly cooler air will move in tomorrow. But the real cold stuff won't get here until later on Sunday. Here's the forecast tonight. Look for some occasional rain and some patchy fog low 35 to 40 degrees overnight. So no freezing tonight. Tomorrow mainly cloudy. Chances some rain. Most of that will be in eastern sections high 47 low tomorrow night cooling down to 31 degrees and turning Significantly. I mean, much colder, later on Sunday. Gentlemen, that's the way it looks. Winter's not over for a long shot. All right. More pot holes by Tuesday, that's for sure.
text/plain
https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/144429/file/266932#t=1326.39,1589.43
https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/144429/file/266932/transcript/77111/annotation/65
https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/144429/file/266932#t=1590.52,1593.1
https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/144429/file/266932/transcript/77111/annotation/66
https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/144429/file/266932#t=1593.01,1594.65
https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/144429/file/266932/transcript/77111/annotation/67
Speaker 2: All right, thank you, Robert. Here's how it works. Retailing has always been competitive. That's why over 70 years ago, the federal government made it illegal for manufacturers to make their distributors, or retailers, sell merchandise at a specific price, a fixed price. The government thought consumers would end up paying higher prices that way. The technical term for price fixing is resale price maintenance, or RPM. But whatever you call it, it's been illegal under any circumstances since 1911. But now all that is subject to change. Here's why. The Reagan administration has taken steps to eliminate the blanket outlawing of price -fixing. The negotiations on a new memorial stadium lease are going nowhere at the moment. Williams is taking the rep. Word leaked out of his proposal to the city in which he seems to be asking for an awful lot. And there have been outcries that Williams is merely a Robert Ursay in sheep's clothing. Let's try to remain rational about that. This is a negotiating process. Anybody who's ever been in a labor union knows how negotiations are handled. One side comes in very high, and the other side comes in very low. And gradually, each side moves to a middle ground that both sides can live with. The Williams proposal to the city of Baltimore was sent on December 23rd. That was six weeks ago. In all that time, the negotiators for the city never came back with a counter proposal. Where have they been? In all that time, Williams never said, this is my final offer, never threatened to move the team, never threw a public temper tantrum. He is a businessman, a very tough one. He owns a valuable baseball team, and if he wanted to, he could move it. At the very least, he wants the best deal he can make for it in Baltimore.
