That's going to pretty much take over our weather here tonight, tomorrow and tomorrow night. It's going to remain cold over the area beyond any shadow of a doubt. But now we want to turn our attention out to the West. Here's a big area of low pressure now over California, and it is slowly moving its way in an easterly direction. It's already spread snow out ahead of it. It's already drawing moisture up from the Sea of Cortez. More moisture ahead of it as it moves in the easterly direction. I'm really a piece of myself. When you lose control of anything, there's a panic. And so this is a form of control that I've gotten back. Some doctors dismiss it because they don't know about it. I think we know the psychologist Michael Kleber, is among 15,000 doctors and dentists who are using hypnotherapy to help patients. He taught self-hypnosis to registered nurse Dolores Westbrook so she could control chronic pain of arthritis. When I stand up and walk out of here, I do feel 100% better. And it's just it's a very helpful adjunct to therapy, or it can be a therapy itself. Be even happier than you ever thought possible. Hypnotherapist Tequila. Lindemann says hypnosis isn't a cure. It's just a way to tap the healing powers of the mind. There was a certain sensation of floating, but tension, detachment. Anything that you do can be done better, obviously, by using more of your mind. Pure and simple. Here in Houston, doctors are hypnotizing children with cancer to help them restart their immune systems or get over the nausea of chemotherapy. Kids with learning disabilities are also using hypnosis to concentrate and study better. Perhaps the most controversial use of hypnosis involves age regression.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136678/file/253393#t=1205.87,1324.7"},{"id":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136678/file/253393/transcript/71562/annotation/14","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"Patients in a trance are seemingly reliving their lives to work through childhood traumas. I know, Denise, it may sound strange, but the study shows bald men under the age of 55 are at greater risk for heart attack than men with hair restraint. It sounds very strange. The report in the Journal of the AMA says men in that age group with severe hair loss are about three times greater risk of suffering a heart attack. A decision, the Howard County school bus funding controversy we told you about last week. Instead of cutting the budget, the school board has voted to add $360,000 to its transportation funds. Partly sunny and partly cloudy water in Missouri. I have a question. Yes. And here is the answer. Essentially, there is no difference between partly cloudy and partly sunny. Obviously, in the evening or at night, we say partly cloudy. And the daytime is partly sunny and certainly means that approximately 50% of the sky at any given time of the day will be covered with cloud cover. That's just the way we do now. Very cloudy skies means more clouds than sun. Okay. Mostly cloudy means mostly cloudy tech with the temperatures rather, it's mostly cloudy out to our west and some flurries and snow squalls out there. Already 4 to 6in of snow accumulating just from this flurry activity out in western portions of state. It's cold, too, only in the upper actually, most places in the 20s. Down the south, a little warmer, 34. Ocean City, 38 degrees down in Richmond, Virginia. At the airport today, we only managed to get up to 35 degrees.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136678/file/253393#t=3414.54,3530.05"},{"id":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136678/file/253393/transcript/71562/annotation/35","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"Normal now is 46. National radar, a lot of snow activity out to our west. The mountains are doing a very effective job of drying out those clouds as the winds come down slope out of the mountains, they dry out. And we only saw partly cloudy skies here in the east, partly sunny skies. If you look at it, it's also enough to think partly sunny, maybe more optimistic, partly cloudy, maybe a little more depressing. Okay. Out to the west, this is where our next problem is going to occur. We have an area of low pressure that's in our portions of northern California. It's going to be moving to about central Oklahoma and then to about Memphis, Tennessee. And then it's going to move somewhere along the Carolina coast. What it's going to do is to bring moisture up. We have a lot of cold air in place. So we're not too concerned about whether we have rain or snow. We're concerned about how much snow. Thursday night and Friday, we have another area of low pressure that we're not concerned about. This is moving out. This is causing wind flow out of the north and northwest, bringing in a lot of cold air and there's plenty of cold air around the region that we're like, well, that's not really the problem. The problem will be the exact storm track of the storm that we have with all this moisture coming in from the Pacific and from the Gulf of Mexico. Chase a curveball in the dirt and he strikes on fourth strike after Sutcliffe considering his own problems and considering his age, what Sutcliffe did in 1992 was nothing short of astounding. At the age of 36, he tied for the Major League lead in starts with 36. In 17 of those starts. He allowed two runs or less. And despite the fact that the O's scored three runs or less in support of him in 20 of his starts during this, Sutcliffe still did win 16 ballgames. Now, those would be big numbers for anybody. And as we mentioned, they are especially off the graph for somebody 36 years old with a supposedly blown out pitching arm. But for all the success and durability that Rick exhibited last season, he says he was not exactly overjoyed with his overall performance. Usually during the course of my career, when I'm healthy, the one thing you can count on is some kind of consistency. And I had some some good games last year, but I had some real bad games too. And, you know, the doctors attribute some of that to the surgery and all and it being part of the procedure and getting healthy. But I'm looking forward to putting that behind me and and giving a more consistent effort all year. Looking ahead to 1993, Rick says he thinks the O's pitching staff will be as good as any in baseball. And even though the birds might have played a little over their heads in 1992, he says he thinks that experience of being in the race will serve this team well in the season ahead. Maybe on paper, to begin with, we didn't belong in contention, but in the papers we stayed in contention all year and I think our club is stronger this year because of the experience we gained.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136678/file/253393#t=4395.3,4502.65"},{"id":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136678/file/253393/transcript/71562/annotation/44","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"I think because of me becoming more consistent, we can be a much better club because of that. Meanwhile, there is controversy in Annapolis tonight over a bill that would limit welfare benefits to women with children. In his commentary tonight, Michael Wesker says it's an idea that looks better on paper than in reality. I think it's one of those things where you save money up front, but you wind up paying for it in other ways down the road. On paper, the bill makes complete sense. Women on welfare can't really afford children, and this bill would tell them better not have any more kids because the state won't help you pay for them. Here's the problem. The bill implies there are lots of women on welfare who have children, mainly as a way to get more money and therefore they should be punished by getting no more help if they have more children.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136678/file/253393#t=4811.57,4911.81"},{"id":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136678/file/253393/transcript/71562/annotation/48","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"Some money, by the way, a mother with two children now gets less than $100 a week. What we do know is that an anonymous source in the governor's office and let me repeat that an anonymous source in the governor's office says that Dr. Kimble Marshall will be asked to resign. This after a long period of disruption and conflict, which came to a head when three of shock traumas top surgeons were asked to resign. My agenda all along has been to get these disruptive physicians out of the workplace, and we certainly accomplished that today. That was the day Dr. Campbell Marshall and Doctors Amin Ramsey, Howard Bell's Bergh and C Michael Dunnam reached an agreement in court. Dr. Marshall wanted them fired. The doctors wanted to sue. The settlement was that the firings were rescinded. The doctors never went back to practice that shock trauma, but they're still being paid until June of this year. You can't take people who have been working very hard and working correctly and working for the system for ten and 12 and 14 years and give them three days notice and then lock them out of their offices, that that's not decent human behavior to not be able to continue to work in the shock trauma center and provide care. And what I consider the greatest trauma center in the country is a grave disappointment. But the trouble continued. Another doctor resigned in August. Then late August, Dr. Kimble Mall removed himself as head of Maryland's emergency medical system, which coordinates EMS services throughout the state. And that sort of made people think that they were no longer specializing in that shock trauma, was not doing the same kinds of things that it was originally intended to do. So it's been a long controversial year for Dr. Marshall. And as I said before, we are hearing reports from the governor's office, an anonymous source there, saying that he will be asked to resign Denise. Okay. Thank you, Pat Warren reporting live. At least one report says yes. Kicking off a new controversy over an old theory. Anything that has to do with, like, VCRs, your personal cellular phone radios are not acceptable because it interferes with the navigational aids on board the aircraft. The FAA is now studying that possibility without conclusive evidence. They don't want to change regulations and ban passengers from using cassette players, shavers and other electronics during the flight. Have you ever noticed a problem because one of your passengers is using electronic device? No, I haven't. But as a precaution, airlines have their own policies about what can't be used. Some items simply during takeoffs and landings. Electronics that put out radio signals such as video, Walkmans and remote controlled toys are usually prohibited even at cruising altitude. I think it may depend on the type of aircraft. Some are more susceptible than others. Sometimes the pilots who call back and, you know, know that there's interference in the front and ask you to walk around the plane to their know. There's radios in the back and you walk through. Often those passengers simply don't know that using their electronics might cause a problem. Do you understand why you can't use it during takeoff and landing? Many of them in Maryland. Today, the legislature began considering a bill that would assume people who've died wanted to donate organs unless they said otherwise. In tonight's talk about the 19th century, Salters finds out that some Baltimoreans think they call him Dr. Death, while others consider him Doctor Mercy. Quite right. They are split down the middle and they are rabid in their opinions about Dr. Kevorkian. Well, Kevorkian, as you may know, is a retired pathologist. He is also an outspoken advocate of. Medically assisted suicides for the terminally ill. While some view his actions as humanitarian, others are horrified by them. Talking about people. I think he should be locked up in jail and thrown away. I'm all in favor of anything that Jack Kevorkian would do to help anybody who wanted to end it all that's in severe pain or dying from cancer.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136678/file/253393#t=5877.7,5985.09"},{"id":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136678/file/253393/transcript/71562/annotation/58","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"Yes, I. I think there should be a place for him somewhere. To me, it's left up to God. God working miracles. If God chooses when we want to, when we're going to die, then why do we have all the life supports that keep us going and going and going for months on end? Well, I don't think he's God. So he's a murderer. Why should a person that has no way of getting better suffer? I say they ought to hang him. You got to have a choice. A lot of people get to the point. They the drivel all down in front of me, but few sticking around anymore. I think this man is doing a public service. You know, I haven't really been able to resolve the issue. I think at this moment he's an opportunist. I don't agree with what he's doing. I think he should be socially ostracized. I think his own profession should ostracize him. I think that he should be left in the wilderness alone because what he's doing is morally incorrect. If you've ever seen anybody terminally ill and watched the family suffer because they are the living, you want them out of their misery. You want them to go with dignity and do well in new state law, which will ban assisted suicides and in essence, make what Dr. Kevorkian does illegal, goes into effect the end of March. For some people, getting to the top of the upper deck can be a painful experience because of blocked or narrowed blood vessels that nourish the legs and feet. Now we can treat these problems without major surgery by inserting a catheter into an artery in the leg, we can reach the constricted area. The catheter holds a small balloon containing a stainless steel soon there called a stent. As a balloon inflates and pushes back the plaque that blocks the vessel, the stent expands to support the opening. The stent remains in place to provide a framework that ensures proper blood flow.
