She had just begun to crawl, but it wasn't crawling on hands and knees. She was. dragging one foot. We became very concerned at that time. We took her to a pediatrician and then from there she went to an orthopedic and it was then we found out she had cerebral palsy. At that time we were told that her main problem would be in the leg area, that she would have difficulty walking in what she does now. She still has to wear braces, and at times she walks with canes. We are very fortunate to have the two girls, and especially since they're only a year apart. Oh, they're good for each other. They're not only sisters. They'll tell you that they're buddies, they're friends, they're companions. They're good for each other in that Kenya is motivated. to trying different activities that will involve her motor skills. For instance, riding that motorcycle. Johnnell could ride it first. Kenya watched and watched until she finally could ride that motorcycle. Johnnell would help Kenya in her motor skills, and Kenya, in turn, helps Johnnell to learn different things in school, such as the alphabets, the numbers, the colors. John L knows these things because of Kenya and you know since Kenya does have cerebral palsy and has had it since birth If we ask Janelle, what's wrong with Kenya? Why does she have those braces on? Janelle will say, they'll help Kenya walk. They're helping Kenya to walk. She doesn't realize that there's a problem. Kenya doesn't realize there's a problem. We never acknowledge that there's a problem. Whatever we do for one, we do for the other. So far as Kenya's concerned, she's just like everybody else. And his head was about the same size as this.
