It's going to burn off by mid -morning. but we do have that to contend with especially in low -lying areas so just keep that in mind no real precipitation in the forecast take a look at first warning radar and you'll see that for yourself uh... took a little heat yesterday because we looked at the radar early in the morning it was not forecast to be any shower activity any further near the city we were expecting it north of the city we weren't expecting it to be anywhere close and it just kind of swept across the front that moved on through swept across the city and uh... we did get shower activity until mid -afternoon It burned off. Most of the western portion, the western coast of Florida, is under tropical storm warnings. That's because, although George is still a Category 2, because it's sitting out in the middle of the water, basically the outer bands of the storm are creating tropical storm force winds, as opposed to hurricane force winds. They won't see that until it starts to move further up the coast. and uh... the landfall and the tropical storm and hurricane force winds will actually start to be felt as he said mobile maybe uh... uh... louisiana is sitting just about four hundred sixty miles uh... southeast of new orleans right now and these are the coordinates george's at latitude twenty five point five north longitude eighty four point five west sustained winds right now at one oh five still keeping it a category two it changes over to category three at one hundred fifteen miles per hour Gust of winds now up to 125. moving west northwest at nine miles per hour. Just in the high 50s, low 60 degree mark, Bel Air, one of the cooler spots at 56, as is Annapolis reporting 56 this morning. Give you an idea on George from a national satellite point of view as opposed to being right down on it you can see basically george down here spiraling off into the open waters of the gulf expected to make landfall into alabama there are two separate scenarios with george right now one is that a westerly flow of air could carry it further in towards florida the other is that george will just carry his force straight on in in a west northwest fashion which would take it just uh... to the west of new orleans and uh... of course we'll keep you posted won't really know about that until tomorrow give it another twenty four hours but everyone in that whole gulf uh... region mississippi delta right on throughout uh... that whole area is under a hurricane watch just meaning that the conditions are favorable in the next thirty six hours that a hurricane could could possibly come in and give them some problems the other problems around the area uh... tornado watches across the northern portion of the country Wisconsin, Iowa, Minnesota. have uh... all been under tornado watches for the majority of the night no reports of any touching down but the conditions are certainly favorable up there as you see this low -pressure system moving on through causing a lot of problems around the great lakes so that certainly is not causing any problems for us we're looking at high pressure that's going to be with us throughout the mid atlantic for the rest of the weekend can be very very nice we did see some showers move on by you can see them over the ocean now just kind of moving offshore That's what we had yesterday. Our rainfall right now is about one and a half inches for September, and here we are at the end. So we didn't really get too much. We certainly needed it, although it was just a little bit unexpected, and came by, stayed with us for the majority of the day yesterday, although we did get some sun out of it towards the end of the day. But today we're looking at early fog, burning off. We'll have mixed clouds and some sun, warm and humid, high temperature of just about 86 degrees, very, very summer -like today. The chase finally ended after the suspect rammed the vehicle into two police cars. Fortunately, no officers were hurt. Brunetti was the only person injured in that chase. The Chesapeake Air Show flies back in our area this morning, but there will be one main attraction missing from above. After last year's stealth bomber crash, organizers have decided to eliminate jets from flying overhead. Only small planes will be allowed to fly. Jets will still be at the show, however, but grounded for display. The 50th anniversary of the Berlin airlift begins at 10 this morning at the Martin State Airport in Middle River. Low tide is at 502 this evening. Sunset is 658, sunrise 659, probably the closest we'll get to having a complete 12 hours of sun and darkness that we will have this year. Here we are, let's take a look. This is George. George has made his way across the Keys, across Cuba, now on pretty much a direct line. If we could plot this course, you'd see that George actually has been on a steady stream right on a cross and is pretty much staying true to form is what he's done across the Atlantic so far. Right now, after his brush with the keys, he is now making his way back out into the central portion of the gulf now. If the current course plotted holds true, George will end up being just along the coast of Alabama right near Mobile. but right now he sits about four hundred sixty miles southeast of new orleans we'll of course keep you posted the current coordinates for george are right here latitudes at twenty five point nine north longitude eighty four point five west with sustained winds at one hundred five miles per hour making him a category two hurricane uh... gust now of up to one hundred twenty five moving west northwest to just about nine miles per hour we'll keep you posted on george's progress just behind george however I can't really see now because the letters are up, but there are... three other named storms. There's Gene, Ivan, and Carl with a K. All out there. Last time we've had this many storms in the Atlantic was back about a hundred years ago, 1892. This is very unusual, but they haven't combined to do any real damage as a group, so of course we hope that stays to be the case. Waves on the bay though not really affecting us. There are only one -foot waves on the bay. Southwest winds just about 10. Water temperatures at 78 degrees. Down on the ocean, three -foot sea, southwest winds. And 15 at about 15 with water temperature at just about, let's see, that should actually be 70, not 60. Hasn't dropped quite that low that fast. Science Center got to 68 yesterday. BWI got to 67. Normal is 77, so we should be a little bit warmer. We weren't expecting to get that low. We were expecting 78 yesterday, but the rain came in and pretty much washed the heat right on out. But we're expecting to warm up today. Early fall will burn off. Mixed clouds and sun will prevail. Warm and humid are the conditions. High temperature of just about 86 degrees. And then tonight, mainly clear, low of about 65, patches of fog, muggy and humid, not quite sticky, but just a little more humid than it has been. Let's go ahead and do that. There you can see the center of the storm system. You can barely make out the eye here as the center moves on toward the northwest and it is moving toward the coastline and looks like it is going to make landfall sometime as Lee just said between late tomorrow night and early Monday morning. It's moving to the northwest at 10 miles an hour, and that carries it. Right now from Morgan City, Louisiana to Panama City, Florida, right along in here is where the hurricane watch, or hurricane warnings that is, have been posted. A warning means that landfall hurricane conditions are expected within the next 24 hours. So, it does look like there could be some real problems here, 110 mile an hour winds and of course the biggest problem, especially along the Louisiana coast, is the 10 -15 foot storm surge and flooding that's anticipated because... Though some of those areas along the Delta of Louisiana are below sea level. We'll come back in a few minutes and tell you what's going on there. But as far as our wakeup goes, our wakeup forecast for tomorrow has some return of summer -like weather. We've got the humidity out there to produce some patchy fog. Then after that, look for hazy sunshine, rather humid, 55 degrees. The audio tapes Linda Tripp made of her conversations with Monica Lewinsky are scheduled to go on public on Monday. The nation's capital is the site of the nation's first march against cancer. The rally celebrated cancer survivors, honored victims, and encouraged donations for cancer research. They could drown. Yeah, I mean, it could be very extensive flooding in so many places. And this is really the big concern. As much as the wind, of course, the damage that that could do. No question. It's a bad one. Yeah, really. No doubt about it. And we'll be watching this certainly over the next 24 to 36 hours, which is the time window for a landfall or so. Let's go ahead and take a look once again down in the Gulf of Mexico. We'll update you on that 11 o 'clock observation. Once again, again, we're talking about the Make them drown. There's the hurricane. There's Georgia's right down there, moving toward the coast of the Gulf of Mexico. And it's moving along to the northwest at about 10 miles an hour. We'll give you the posted statistics right there. But hurricane warnings are in effect along the coast right here, and from Morgan City, Louisiana into Panama City, Florida. That's where the concern is right now. 10 miles an hour, roughly 200 miles offshore. That's easy math to do. That's about 20 hours worth of motion. But there's all likelihood that this will slow down as it gets toward the coast, not really a good idea. But if it does that, then that's what stretches the time window to, say, 24 to 36 hours. Here's our situation around the Maryland area right now. After very summery conditions today, our thermometer here is still showing 73 degrees at almost midnight here on a day in late September. So we're experiencing some tropical weather reminiscent of summertime ourselves. Our high temperature today, 86 degrees. That's 11 degrees above normal. Overnight low is more or less where normal ought to be, but very definitely a warmer situation and we're expecting to be even warmer still tomorrow. For tomorrow on the bay, look for southwest winds five to 10 knots early in the day, kicking up to possibly 10 to 18 knots later in the day. So the winds should be increasing as the day wears on one foot chop in the water temperature at thomas point light this afternoon reporting in at 74 degrees. Now here's the bigger satellite view, and again, there's George down there making its way toward the Gulf Coast. The rest of the country, at least the eastern part, locked under this tropical air mass that's motivated by this high pressure system offshore, pumping in from the southwest, southwest winds in our area, bringing in warm and humid conditions. But further out to the west, the frontal system working its way across the country will actually cool us off, probably passing early Monday morning and bringing in some cooler temperatures later in the day Monday really will show up Tuesday and on into midweek so look for warmer temperatures tomorrow we may well break 90 degrees tomorrow and that could actually be getting near the record for this day 93 down in Richmond should be the warm part if you don't get the 90 you'll be in the upper eighties with lots of humidity to make you think it's summertime still on Sunday. For tonight, some patchy fog may develop later on. rather humid, otherwise mainly clear above the haze and humidity down at the low levels. Then tomorrow, hazy sunshine, hot and humid, a summer like sunday at 91 and the five day forecast then 91 degrees on sunday. The front passes early monday and that's what's going to bring us in the cooler weather showing up monday during the day, then Tuesday, Wednesday, really pleasant temperatures for this time of year with lots of sunshine, but still actually then inching up back above normal by the end of the five day period, so.
