A broadcast was put out for the suspect, who was the victim's 17 year old son. He was seen by a trooper shortly before 3 a.m., walking along route 482, just west of Hampstead. The trooper attempted to arrest the suspect. He did run. There was a struggle, but he was taken into custody. 17 year old Timothy Thicke is charged as an adult with first and second degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon and other charges. He'll have a bail hearing later today. So far, police have no motive for the murder. Also in Carroll County, the prosecution is expected to bring its final witness today in the trial of a Westminster teenager accused of killing his mother and her boyfriend. Jason DeLong and Sarah Citroen confessed to the murders, but Long's attorneys hope to prove he is mentally unstable, so Tony pleaded guilty to her part in the murders last month. Today, a teenager who fled to Florida with the pair after the murder takes the stand. He says DeLong, its attorney, told him all about the killings. A heart wrenching decision has resulted in life from a death. CNN's Ed Gordon reports. Bob Zub remembers the last time he heard from his 22 year old sister, Patti. Her last hurrah before starting school this fall was a trip to the Smoky Mountains. The day she arrived that evening, she called talk to my mother and said she was having a wonderful, fantastic time. But then on August 18th, that wonderful time ended when Patty died in a traffic accident. An accident which tour of the failing heart of her father and gave him a new one. Patty had expressed her wishes to donate her organs through organ, donor card and verbally with the family. At the time. We had no idea the donation of Patty's heart to our father was even a possibility. I want to stress that. We learned from the Tennessee donor services that it might be. A father had been waiting for a heart for up to four years amid the wrenching grief. Chester Zubir accepted his daughter's heart. His quote was it would be a joy to have Patti's heart. Good news for workers here at Baltimore's General Assembly, General Motors Assembly plant. The lines are moving once again yesterday. Workers at the GM parts plant in Anderson, Indiana, ended their three day old strike, which had threatened to shut down the local plan because of a lack of plants. The 3200 workers at Baltimore's Astro and Safari minivan assembly factory are the lucky ones. 13 plants in the U.S. and Canada were forced to close down. A plant problem with the potential to practically wipe out the hedges at at a world renowned garden up in Harford County has been curbed, but its presence has now drawn attention to how tight the purse strings at the Ledoux topiary Gardens had become. And now something is being done about that problem. The beauty of the Ledoux Gardens has been recently under attack by a little bug accidentally imported from Japan. It looks very much like flossing on a Christmas tree. White, puffy. And it injects spittle into the plant, and it's poisonous. Once the hemlock dies like this, it will not, rejuvenate. And we sprayed with horticultural oil, which is, smothers the insect. But that was an expensive proposition, as was completely replacing a couple of the hedges. So now Ledoux is looking for a little help raising capital. We've originally tackled just the idea of the, of the hedges. But the further relief we realized that there are also other needs here at Ledoux. And, we're trying to raise $2 million. We're about halfway there. We're just starting to go to a broader public move beyond the trustees and those closest to Ledoux and engage in a in a general appeal to the public. The latest in a case involves a 17 year old who was about to enter his senior year at North Carroll High School. Making par. That's what's on the minds of these golfers. But robbery is not something you think about when you run on the golf course. That's what happened Wednesday afternoon at Forest Park. Sixth hole. Two teens, masked with bandanas, stepped out of the woods and held up a golfer at gunpoint. They stole his wallet, took money from his partner's golf bag, and fortunately, no one was hurt when one teen fired his rifle at a nearby golfer who shouted at them. The robbers escaped through the woods and into the adjacent neighborhood. It's not a first time incident here in 25 years, I can only remember 4 or 5. The golfers say the crimes are so infrequent it can't get in the way of their enjoyment. That can happen anywhere. I mean, not to happen. Walking down Main Street and in in a small town United States, you're going to have an Eastern shore going to happen in western Maryland. Now we're in a twilight. So why should we let this world just come apart? Just ruin everything for us? Oh, no, sir, it's running all the time. Some will even joke about it. I got to keep my putter handy or something.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136383/file/252969#t=2829.14,2933.49"},{"id":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136383/file/252969/transcript/71338/annotation/29","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"Oh, here's another nightmare. City police are still looking for the teenagers who held up the golfers on Wednesday. An inmate who has been missing from the Patuxent Institution in Jessup since Wednesday has been found in Florida. 31 year old Kevin Seiler was arrested by West Palm Beach police on Wednesday. He was captured, allegedly robbing two banks and threatening to blow them up. Seiler was serving 29 years for armed robbery and the previous escape. An extradition hearing was held late this afternoon. Local law enforcement people are looking for a windfall from yesterday's passage of a $30 billion national crime package. In his commentary tonight, Mike in Alaska says it means more police, more prisons and more prevention for Maryland. It isn't a perfect bill. No bill is. But it's a start on a real rough problem. Walking out of the Capitol last night, Senate Minority Leader Bob Dole was asked how he felt about passage of the crime bill and Dole, who fought it, replied, do you feel safe yet? The dole sarcasm indicated the bitter politics that threatened to kill many good intentions of this bill. But since Dole asked, yeah, we should feel safer. There are criminals still on the street, but the new bill will give Maryland hundreds of new police to fight them. Judges are currently afraid to sentence the guilty because the prisons have no room. Let's take a look at the weather, which is going to be important in the next ten days. And it's usually a hot time of year. We've got some warm, humid weather coming tonight. There are some showers and storms out to our west, out of portions of Northern Virginia and over portions of western Maryland. You can see those showers just south of D.C. but right now we see nothing. There they are. They seem to be diminishing over the last hour. So right now, there is no real threat to the Baltimore region of any shower and thunderstorm activity. Take a look. The temperature is 87. The last report in downtown Baltimore. Around the rest of the region, temps are generally in the low 80s to the upper 70s, and some areas that had some clouds, which kept temperatures down just a little bit. Take a look at the high today. High pressure off the Atlantic coast. That means muggy air will continue around the region with the threat of some showers and thunderstorms. Definitely throughout the day tomorrow. Probably a 50% chance we might pick up a shower at the notion that cool air across Minnesota and southern Canada, it's going to be delayed about a day or so before it gets down here. But there's a weak front moving through the Ohio Valley, and that looks that weak front. Looks like it may bring us the threat of some showers and thunderstorms on tomorrow and again on Sunday, probably even on Monday. See those clouds that went through last night with these big storms around midnight? Baltimore area, some areas picking up a little less than two inches of rain in some of those drenching thunderstorms is sort of a dry line trying to move through the Great Lakes, and that's causing some thunderstorms. You see those clouds out to our west. That's the threat of shower activity for tomorrow. Temperatures tomorrow generally the mid 80s, because we have more clouds, we thought we'd get up to about 90 tomorrow. It doesn't look like it's going to happen around Baltimore around 86 degrees. The expected high for tomorrow afternoon, 84 for Elkton and Cambridge about the same. So overnight tonight, just a slight chance of a shower. At this point, 8% of this season of 94 has been lost to the work stoppage. And recognizing that there is no reason to think that things are going to break any time soon, the chief executive officer of the Boston Red Sox today proposed that if the dispute can somehow get settled, perhaps by the middle of October, that maybe the owners might want to think about having a World Series in November at a neutral site, the suggestion was not, we are told, warmly received. And with that, it is now time to check in on the updated numbers on our Eyewitness Sports Strike scoreboard. Yes. Ladies and gentlemen, this is day number 15. So far, 195 total Major League Baseball games have been lost. And the players, by virtue of their walkout, have forfeited 66 million American dollars in salary. And here we are on another Friday night without the booster. Normally, we'd be down the ball yard wrapping with the big fella, but with a strike still on. We are here. And Boog Powell is at Saratoga hustling that good home cook pit beef to all the rich folks at the races, he says it was just a matter of necessity. You know, obviously there is no baseball, but Boog still got his beef and he's got to do something with it. And we just decided that we should all come to Saratoga. No. Monica Seles, once the dominant player in her game, she's still not ready to come back from that stabbing incident 18 months ago in Germany. No Jennifer Capriati this year. She's trying to overcome a drug habit. Those are two of the biggest draws that the women's game used to have. Losing them isn't good. I think it has been a little bit of a little bit of a problem for women's tennis. You know, but with that, what happens every time is somebody fills the void. And Mary Pierce came along at the French Open and became a huge star, beating Steffi Graf in the semis. And there was so much of the publicity surrounding that. And for Katie Martinez to win Wimbledon, there was a lot of publicity surrounding that because especially she beat Martina in the finals. So, you know, I think those two tournaments really helped to bring out some new names. There's Tracy Austin, then she dressed nicely. The measure will provide 100,000 new police officers for cities across the country, and many are expecting it to make a difference. Well, I would hope so. A lot of police departments I know are understaffed. Mayor Schmoke says the president's measure may provide an extra 100 officers for Baltimore, but he plans to spend some of the federal money for overtime for police already on the force. Some city residents say the plan will work if neighborhood groups form a partnership. Judge Lance Ito ruled the district attorney does not have to share certain blood samples with the defense. ABC's Karla Davis has more from Los Angeles. In a written ruling, judge Lance, you don't refuse to let the defense have immediate access to half of the blood sample be given. However, the judge did order the prosecution to conduct its DNA tests conservatively so the defense can do its own tests with any leftover samples. In the ruling, the judge also criticized the prosecution and the LAPD for the way they handled evidence, calling it a picture of confusion, miscommunication and non communication. The fact that the evidence was retained, at least some of it was retained in Los Angeles and not sent on to cell. Mark had more to do with miscommunication or lack of communication than as the defense characterized it, according to Judge Ito, an elaborate conspiracy. Meanwhile, a grand jury continues to hear testimony in its investigation of Al Cowlings involvement in the Simpson case.
