Police say they're looking for a suspect described as a white man in his 20s who was driving a red vehicle. An accident on I-80 three northbound at Northern Parkway brought traffic to a standstill this morning. The accident involved a tractor trailer and three other cars. The truck ended up jackknifed across the highway. The driver was flown to shock trauma, but his condition is not known. The accident also caused other fender benders on ramps leading onto I-80 three. A West Baltimore woman is recovering from a terrifying time following an assault and robbery last night. Police say 31 year old Jacqueline Giddings was at a stop sign on Stricker Street when a man pointed a semi-automatic gun at her through the car's open window and forced her to get into the truck. He drove just a few blocks before parking the car and running away. Neighbors were getting screaming and called police. She was not injured, but the suspect got away with her purse. Police are asking for your help in finding the person who killed a donut delivery deliveryman Tuesday night by running him over with his company van. Alonzo Coates had just made a delivery when a man got into his truck and tried to steal it. Coates tried to stop him, but was run over and dragged for a block. The suspect, described as a white man in his 20s, jumped out and fled. Missionaries who worked with Coates are stunned. And the homeless people he helped are heartbroken over the news. Baltimore's homeless population is making its voice heard this afternoon. The homeless and their advocates are planning what they call a panhandle in at the corner of Charles and Fayette Streets. That's where a metal structure was built last year over a stained great where homeless people used to gather to stay warm. The homeless say they're protesting what they call the city and state's lack of priorities. An agency that helps the homeless is suing Governor Schaefer. The Homeless Persons Representation Project claims the governor violated the Maryland Constitution when he ordered cuts in welfare and medical assistance programs. An official of the organization says if a judge agrees with their argument and could force the state to back down on all cuts to state agencies, the nation's new number one man is still on the run. Blown out windows, strips of the front porch awning peeled away a charred hold, the wooden slats of a glider. But it was the sound of an exploding pipe bomb that rocked this Essex neighborhood before dawn. It was just about daylight. I heard a loud noise. I heard this thing sounded like a clap of thunder at first, Irene. But Roscoe was a long time friend of the family targeted in the bombing attack and want to help just after the blast. It's devastating. You know, the whole all the windows are out. There's glass all over the place. If anybody was in the living room, they wouldn't have had a chance because the glass is flying, you know? There were five people inside the house, including three small children. What does the color of your hair have to do with the pool or the hot tub that you're about to use? Well, if you don't know, you may find yourself in the same predicament as this woman. Most public pools and spars contain plenty of warnings. Exercise caution if you're a diabetic, be careful if you're pregnant. But nowhere is there a warning for blonds. I just got in and sat down. I was sat in the water was often, you know, like my neck above my shoulders. And then my boyfriend said, What's in your hair? And I said, What do you mean? And he said, There's green stuff in your hair. So I looked at my hair and all my hair was green. Most of the green is now gone, thanks to Miller's beautician, but it has taken weeks and $120 to disappear. It started when Miller visited the hot tub at the Sheraton in 2000. The chemicals used to treat the water in the pool apparently reacted with the chemicals used to treat her hair, which turned green. I had to go to work with my hair like that. She should get her hair repaired and give them the deal. But after she did, she says they refused. It is possible that something other than the chemicals in the pool caused the problem. That became a separate contract, one which Miller can enforce. After our call, the hotel agreed to full reimbursement, making the pain a little less. This was Halloween week, so it would have been good for that. But no, Rachel Green is not a good color with her complexion either. Is there a limit that the hotel might have to pay in this case? Well, you know, if the limit is reasonableness, the law would simply say once the hotel said, when I went ahead and said, go get it fixed and we'll pick up the tab, she couldn't go in, you know, have $500 worth of work getting it done, but a reasonable amount in this case, it took $120 so that the everybody in the business tells us is a reasonable amount for what had to be done. He spent time in Hickey but believes the turnaround in his life came at a juvenile facility called Bowling Brook. The people there my same age going through the same problems as I had gone through, but they were doing it positive, going positive. Know that's what they call out there going positive. The Thomas Old Feral Youth Center in rural Howard County runs a program similar to Bowling Brock for troubled kids. 13 to 18 years of age live here up to a year. 16 year old Paul, resident for just two months, is trying to learn another way to live, one that does not include assaults and arson. One time I had said I was going to kill myself and I took a bottle of penicillin pills and I like 36 pounds, that person on pills and didn't do nothing to me. The alarm. That's how that's how bad I felt about myself before. A lot of kids come from troubled backgrounds, and what we do is we minimize the trouble around them so they can gain some sense of esteem and some sense of control. It works because the kids work it. What we have here is a positive peer model.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136134/file/252585#t=2914.99,3013.26"},{"id":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136134/file/252585/transcript/71050/annotation/29","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"What that means is kids are involved in a positive culture. We don't put a kid down. We try to pick a kid up. We give them a purpose. We give them a direction. We give them the support so he can sustain himself as he learns a different value system. Something worked. For now, 18 year old Dwayne Howard is back in school at the Community College of Baltimore. He's back at Bolling Brook on the weekends, but this time as a paid staff member who counsels other kids with troubled backgrounds. And he'll talk to anyone out here, anyone who's willing to listen. All. All of us. All right. So we've moved you around in the park. What I do is I come out and I do the right thing. I talk to them. You know, I don't hang with them, but I talk to them sometimes, and I help my friends that want to make a change but may not know, just like I didn't know. And, you know, it's working. It's working. And, you know, I just set an example. Back in the old neighborhood with old friends and those old soul familiar temptations. Is he strong enough now to keep setting his good example? Dwayne Howard leaves me with these words. I wake up every morning with the same question in mind. You know, it's just like alcoholism. You know, it's kind of a it's an addiction. But, you know, if you persevere, then you can overcome. Dwayne Howard has given the story a happy ending. But in truth, many people in the juvenile system say there will never be enough facilities such as Bowling Brook. That a complete overhaul of the juvenile justice system, isn't it? Well, you've taken a look at it. So if they were to overhaul, of what direction should they take? Well, you hear a lot that early intervention, as Judge Mitchell was saying, start young. Start by identifying kids who are having to have learning disabilities, perhaps, and start treating that because so often, as he says, you look at a kid's record and there it is, learning disabilities, that it's plagued him all the way through his life. Nobody has done anything until he's committed a crime and become a part of the system. Start there. Well, you know, again, as someone else said, and I have a plan, something to do, something other than putting a lot of money into a facility such as Hickey when kids have reached the end of the line, start earlier. Interesting. The whole idea. The other school has a positive reinforcement. Positive reinforcement. Interesting. Out. Well, some advocates for the homeless want to see Governor Schaefer in court. Why don't we take a look? The radar will show you some last showers that are beginning to move toward the area. We missed a lot of the rain today. The heavy rains we expected really didn't move through the water, which they hit up to our north. There are some showers out to our west right now. And for the further west, snow occurring out in the western portions of Maryland and in western Pennsylvania, even north central Pennsylvania and portions of West Virginia, some light snow activity and the maybe a little bit of sleet mixed into some of these rain showers just to our west. Marylanders voted overwhelmingly this week to keep abortions legal. But in his commentary tonight, Michael Lasker says the battle may be done, but the war or war is not over. Now an exhausting campaign, but only a momentary pause when the early returns began showing a heavy pro-choice vote on election night. I bumped into state Senate Senate President Mike Miller. Does this put the abortion legislative fight to rest? I asked. Are you kidding? He said. This won't be put to rest any time this century. Even now, there are opponents preparing ways to attack abortion rights on some new legal angles and others preparing their defenses. This isn't mere legislation. It's a call to the very essence of our belief in life and death. What divides us, though, is when we believe life begins and whose life is more important that already begun or the one still on its way. On Tuesday, Marylanders voted to protect the choices of the already born. But somewhere, even now, there are passionate people who think this is wrong and who have not given up the fight to stop it. Carjacking is up because it's easier than breaking into a car and hardwiring it. If for some reason you were stranded on the road, whether it's broken down or whatever the problem, we'd advise you not to leave your car. If someone approaches your car, don't open your window, Shipley says. Wait for police. And he also says, Don't keep your car and house keys on the same ring. Don't keep your car registration in your glove compartment. In the worst case, the carjacker would have your car, your house keys and your home address. And finally, even if you've done everything you can and someone approaches your car in bumper to bumper traffic, blow your horn, attract attention to yourself, And many times that will be the key to saving your life ultimately.
