Well, so you two guys are on suspension for a couple of weeks, but it was lot of fun! Let's talk about the Kentucky Derby. The running for the roses, coming here out of the number one post, Raymond Earl. The speed horse took the early lead in the pink soaks there you see Steve Cawthon aboard a firm the number two choice before the race over favorite Ali Dar on the outside coming up strong is believe it now as they headed at the first turn sensitive Prince which was also highly regarded made a move and passes Raymond Earl Steve Cawthorn is now back in third position and exactly the way the race that last where the trainer for a firm wanted This was Coughlin's first run. In the Kentucky Derby Derby. He wasn't allowed to run last year at the turn. Then as the horses moved along the back stretch, you see here, sensitive prints remained in the lead. Raymond Earl and a firm right behind. Aladar at this point was back in ninth position, got crowded back in the pack coming out of the gate and didn't wasn't really a factor until the final stretch. And as you see them coming down here, Coffin puts the whip to him. A firm is a kind of horse. If there's no horses in front of him, he'll lay back. So he knew Aladare was coming up. Believe it right there. And the green is second. And coming up on the outside is Alidar with Velasquez aboard. Cawthon knew he had it at this point. He's won five out of seven now against Alidar. Four out of six coming into the race. And Cawton takes the victory. The Roses, his first Kentucky Derby. The time was two minutes, one and one-fifth seconds. Alidar will be about a length and a half behind as they hit the wire with, believe it, finishing third. A great race and great that Cawson was able to win it aboard Alidar, so make that affirmed. So with the firm, with the win. Here's the payoff, 560 for the win, 280 and 260 it should be. Number 10, Ali Dahr was in second, paying 260 and 240. And the number nine horse, believe it, finished third, paying 280 to show. Darby Creek Road came in fourth. So the record crowd was bet almost a total of $4,400,000, which is about $800,000 more than last year when Seattle Slough won his first triple crown. So the next leg right here at Pimlico in two weeks. For the mile and three-sixteenth Preakness run, if it's the same kind of a situation as today's Derby, Ali Dar could catch and pass a firm, so that should be a good run. Here's what happened to Pimlico this afternoon. In the seventh, it was Tiger Castle, Johnny Udeberry, the one to pay 12.20. In the eighth it was Iron Legend and Scotchman, the 1.5 Exacto, $1,038.80. With that win, Iron Legend will have an entry in the Preaknes on May 20th. In the ninth, it was Darby Frank, Paris Ruler, and Admiral McGuire. The one two four triple one hundred ninety four dollars and ten cents last night the orioles got a strong pitching performance out of mike flanagan who was matched pitch for pitch through seven scoreless innings with jeff zahn before the birds wired two runs together in the bottom of the ninth and here's the bottom in the eighth make that here's how it happened uh... So we all took part in Survival Saturday at the Community College of Baltimore's Harbor campus this afternoon. I was there with Instani and three courses are being offered in masonry, automotive maintenance, and carpentry. This session's already sold out, but there will be more. These men and women are learning about oil filters, oil changes, and those other things that you need to know. And these people are learning about carpentry, the class building a 12 by 12 room with two windows, two doors, everything with a roof and carpeting. We had a high of 64 degrees I mean that was better than 50 it's now down to 58 degrees that's 14 degrees Celsius humidity is 67 percent the winds are coming from an east north easterly direction now 10 miles an hour that's gonna change before the night's over and when it changes it's gonna be nothing but bad news for us barometric pressure is holding Steady now. Point two oh okay old instant I had derby fever today had to find itself a horse farm did a fairly good job I want you to notice the sky this is really thick dense overcast this is what you'd call rain clouds you don't see splotches of dark here light splotchs of dark hair that's nothing but thick clouds we're not going to really have a chance of rain but as far as seeing the Sun in the next two days you'd have been better betting on dr. Forbes in the derby this afternoon who's still running somewhere on northern Parkway. Here's situation. Low pressure system over Lake Ontario, high pressure system in Canada, both combining to funnel down some cold air. That's just all there is to it. We've got a warm front, a warm stationary front, all that nonsense south of us. This is just what we've been seeing the past four or five weeks. This has just really freak weather recurrence. We're into a trend now and I hope we can break it. Cold weather hits the warm air, you've got nothing but clouds from the Mississippi River in an easterly direction. When you watch the derby, they had sunshine during the race. That was just when the clouds parted and some sunshine came in. It's still going to be overcast. The whole system's moving in an easterly direction. That means clouds for us tonight and clouds for us tomorrow. We're still not out of the woods. South of us, a warm front along the coast, another stationary front into a low. They're getting thunderstorms, tornadoes, a tornado watch in effect tonight for central Texas. A winter storm warning out west. 17 inches of snow in Denver, 38 inches of snow some portions of Wyoming. This is a big storm. It's going to die, though, before it hits the Mississippi River. Otherwise, we'd be getting rain all through next week. Tomorrow's map. Here you go. There's no winter storm watches out for the West. They'll have lingering snow flurries around the Salt Lake City area. But as you move east, here's where the trouble starts. That low pressure system has moved up from Texas, now into the Midwest, a cold front stretching down almost following the course of the Mississippi River and a warm front. We've seen this every week now. Stretching easterly down through Dixie and well into Florida. What's it going to do? You ought to know by now. Move in a northerly direction. The warm air is going to hit the cold air from this high-pressure system. We're going to get clouds and we may get some rain. If I look upset about this, you better believe it. I mean, it's May 1st, and I'm sitting here wearing a wool suit. It's really getting out of hand. Statewide right now, everybody's got cloudy skies, but temperatures are into the 50s rather than into the 40s and into the 30s. I will say this. Sometime late tomorrow afternoon we're gonna see a little break in these clouds What's gonna happen one system is gonna pass and then another system is going to come up on us So we'll have four or five hours of sunshine if you really have to do something outside Winds tomorrow on the bait they're gonna be variable But later in the afternoon coming from the southeasterly direction ten knots pretty consistent winds wave chops at two feet the forecast Here it is variable cloudiness tonight lows of 47 to 50 degrees tomorrow. Take a guess Variable cloudiness highs into the 60s. I don't think we're gonna get above 67 degrees tomorrow night variable cloudiness Maybe maybe now that's any why be some sprinkles late in the evening lows just down to 49 degrees There are your tides rich Marnie I just don't know what to say if I had any control over this I would we'd have been in the 80s with sunshine by now
text/plain
https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/149165/file/273789#t=1352.14,1574.28
https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/149165/file/273789/transcript/80280/annotation/46
https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/149165/file/273789#t=1574.45,1575.59
https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/149165/file/273789/transcript/80280/annotation/47
Speaker 16: 88 today with a thunder shower. This might be the week that we break the icy grip of winter folks I'll find out about that in just a few seconds We got up to a high today of 64 degrees at 7 when we saw you it was 58 We dropped 7 now down to 51 degrees. That is 11 degrees Celsius now the humidity Just to put it lightly. It's skyrocketed. It is up to 80% Now you go outside and take a bath winds are calm though and the barometric pressure twenty five and now on the rise instant i was out today uh... Got us a really interesting picture now we need to look at this okay want you to notice the sky it's a uniform gray all the way around this matter of fact on the horizon uh... At sunset when this picture was taken you can even see some of the sun breaking through these aren't rain clouds it's just a real nice thick layer of clouds now the satellite is going to show us something extremely interesting here you go taken at seven o'clock this morning You can see these clouds starting to form. You'll notice they're not going to billow up and all of a sudden be there like these clouds down here in Texas. That's a big thunderstorm. But as it closes up, you can almost see land in certain portions of North Carolina up into Virginia and especially in our area. We didn't have any rain, but if you were trying to get a tan today, you could have a reflector the size of this building and it still wouldn't work. Here was the situation. Low pressure system over the New England area. Now this afternoon this morning it was over the lakes. Another high pressure system up in Canada. Now between the two of them, They funneled in a whole lot of cold air, which hit a whole lot of warm air, which was coming up from the south and we had rain. If you watch a derby this afternoon, you notice they had overcast skies and the skies part of they had some sun and it got cloudy again. The rain didn't really hit until you got down south and when it hit, it hit big. I mean to tell you they had four and five inches of rain in certain places. Tornado watches out for almost the extreme southern portion of Texas. And that's not the rest of the weather story. There's a winter storm warning out now for Colorado, Wyoming. All the way up in the Dakotas into Canada. Last night in Denver and Boulder, they had 17 inches of snow, 38 inches of slow in Wyoming in some portions. That storm, however, is gonna knock itself out as it hits right about the Mississippi River, and it shouldn't give us any problems. When I talked to you at seven o'clock, I thought it was. I have, hence, since revised my forecast, and it's not gonna bother us whatsoever. The only thing on the horizon that's gonna be bad news is this low pressure system, which has moved itself up from Texas. Now, this is a very familiar pattern. And we've been seeing this now for the past three or four weeks. You get the low, a cold front going on down into Texas, and a warm front which moves across Dixie and down into Florida. What's going to happen? The warm front is going to move in a northerly direction. It's going hit some cold air coming down from this high pressure system. We're going to have a cloudy day tomorrow. It's gonna rain Monday. But lo and behold, toward the end of the week, see this thing way out here? High pressure system, if we're lucky, it'll come on through. And we'll be in fine shape Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Bob Turkle know more about that come Monday. OK, statewide right now, far west out in Oakland, 49 degrees, one degree higher on the eastern side of the state in Salisbury, 50. Right now at Pimlico, right now getting ready for the preakness in two weeks, 51 degrees. Winds from a southerly direction. Tonight, they'll be beginning about 4 o'clock, wave chops at two feet. The winds will be coming at 10 knots. A forecast could be better. Let's look at it. Variable cloudiness tonight, lows of 47 to 50. Could be worse. Tomorrow, though, we're going to see some clouds come in. It may be sunny, it may be cloudy at times, primarily it'll be a nice overcast layer. 64 degrees Monday, surely rain. It'll drop us down two degrees to 62 but Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday we should see the sun with high temperatures respectfully 67, 69 and 73. There are your tides. So Rich. Marty. Looks like it's going to clear up and once again we may have hopes of seeing warm weather.
text/plain
https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/149165/file/273789#t=2631.99,2859.28
https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/149165/file/273789/transcript/80280/annotation/85
Speaker 2: Early July. The theme we've only just begun and highlighted several proposals for community improvement including the revitalization of 36th Street, a new mental health clinic and the conversion of Hamden's old movie theater into a mini shopping mall. It's also belly dancing, country music. And lots of other exhibits that made today's Mayfair a smashing success in Hamden. Bumbry then walked to load him up. Billy Smith caught Rich Childs asleep. Watch this, goes over Childs' head and left field. That emptied the bases, scoring Garcia, Skaggs and Bumbri. And they go ahead four nothing. Of course, Gene Mock then comes to the plate and has a little talk saying, I'm through with Roger Erickson. And he brings in Mike Scares. He faced Ken Singleton. And number 29 here up to bat hits the first of the season from the right side.
