Give him a big round of applause on this Monday morning. 29 days into August 1994. Yeah. Remember all those perfect mornings we had last week? We're paying back for him this morning. Yeah we are. Oh, man. It is warm and humid. More importantly here. More importantly than the weather for a lot of you. Welcome back. We hope you had a great summer break and time off from having to get up so early in the morning. Yeah. School starts for three major systems today. Holy cow. A lot of other people have orientation this week and start next Tuesday. Yeah they do. But, for you folks who start, I mean, it's wild blade sitting there typing in the school lunch menu. We're just summer. Go! Boo! Yippee! Yeah. Yep. As a mother in Lansdowne Road and get the kids out of the house for a few hours thing. Hers aren't leaving today, though. There's a mother in Carroll County. What is it, Carroll? Boy, I've got to see it written down. I'm afraid I'll mess it up. Oh, well, we'll find out there in the menus here shortly. Yeah. You may have. You may have thought that summer went by a real quick until you walked out. The front door is not alluded to. It is a really steamy morning. That weather's getting ready to change, though, in a quick hurry. Let's go ahead and take a look at the forecast. We have a frontal system sitting just out to the west. I'm going to call it clouds the sun today, but I understand during the the midday hours clouds are going to thicken. It is certainly going to be warm and humid between now and then, but watch for a chance of a midday scattered shower and thunderstorm.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136384/file/252970#t=0.3,89.46"},{"id":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136384/file/252970/transcript/71295/annotation/2","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"This front is going to come cruising through the area. We'll have a high of 84 degrees this day. The only reason it's not going to get warmer is going to be the clouds are actually going to umbrella the area away from some sunshine and associated heat. Now, once this front passes, new air moves into the region, clearing skies certainly by light clearing skies. Humidity is going to fall. It's going to be a cool overnight with a low of 62, and tomorrow it's going to be an absolutely lovely day. Clouds, low humidity, mild conditions, a high of 84 degrees. And I can tell you this and we'll touch on the five day forecast later. It looks like by the time we get to the weeks and the weekend, temperatures could be in just the upper 70s to lower 80s. 75 now here on TV Hill and humid with a capital H, 76 in DC, 73 in Hagerstown and 73 in Wilmington. 75 right now down east. Here's the East Coast satellite photo. And here's that front approaching the area. Let's look through just one more time. Setting off over eastern Kentucky is an area of low pressure, and it's this little area of low pressure that, as it moves in an easterly direction, is going to provide the energy to help trigger a shower or maybe a thunderstorm during the midday hours. Should you carry a small umbrella with you? If you expect to be outside a lot during the midday hours? Maybe. Possibly. Otherwise going to work and coming home from work, you should see no rain. How about you folks to the outside jobs? Boys came tumbling out as well. Oh, girl. What happened? Oh, yeah. Oh, it hurt my head. Bad after the accident at the inspections, the keys to the pins that hold to be secure were changed, making it almost impossible for anyone to pull one out by mistake. In response to the accident, the operator of the carnival ride says they will now be inspected three times a day instead of just once a day. A message for political campaign workers at the state fair. Security officers will be looking for those who are breaking the rules. Turning to sports, the college football season is underway, and it began yesterday afternoon as fourth ranked Nebraska took on West Virginia in the Kickoff Classic at the Meadowlands. Correct. That's right. We get calls, all over from all over the world every day. But then there are lots of folks like you at channel 13 who call us a lot. And, we we've lost count of those. Wait a minute. So you can stay at a minimum 10,000 a year? Yes. You throw in the applied physics lab, too. I forgot about yeah, of course, the applied physics lab. Is there always been a book? Or is this a new thing that you've you've catalog everybody? Well, it's, it's been done several times. This is the most recent revision. And we hadn't revised it for a couple of years before now, but, it took a couple of years to put it all together. And last week I asked some of them, what some of their most unusual stories were, because I knew that we were coming here today. Thank you. Local law enforcement people are looking for a windfall from last week's passage of the $30 billion national crime package. In his commentary this morning, Michael Lesko says it means more police, more prisons and more prevention for Maryland. Walking out of the Capitol last night, Senate Minority Leader Bob Dole was asked how he felt about passage of the crime bill and Dole, who fought it, replied do you feel safe yet? The dole sarcasm indicated the bitter politics that threatened to kill many good intentions of this bill. But since Dole asked, yeah, we should feel safer. There are criminals still on the street, but the new bill will give Maryland hundreds of new police to fight them. Judges are currently afraid to sentence the guilty because the prisons have no room. But Maryland will now get millions of dollars to build at least one new prison. Those, like Dole, ridiculed the crime bill for such preventive programs as nighttime basketball leagues to keep kids off the street. But state officials are thrilled over money for afterschool programs and police partnerships with children. Do we feel safer yet at the moment? No.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136384/file/252970#t=4581.97,4685.5"},{"id":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136384/file/252970/transcript/71295/annotation/48","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"It's rough out there, which is exactly why the country needed this bill and needed to overcome Partizan politics to get it.
