A fallout from the US military strike continues From anger to support to relief, the world reacts to America striking back. I don't know that we were so warm against America. We must fight against America. A country such as the United States, when its citizens are put under attack in this way and when they are at risk, must have the right to defend themselves. And we support our allies in that cause. Surprised? Proud. A bit of relief because I thought it was going to take years before we saw any type of resolution or closure on this. That's why, as we maintain our heightened level of awareness and alertness, that it's also incumbent upon travelers to be vigilant as well. It's a little more difficult to get through the airports and things, and we have to allow more time. But it makes me feel more safe, and I think that's a whole lot better. It's been a day of tough talk and tension, but the United States is making no apologies for its attack on the two suspected of terror sites in Afghanistan and the Sudan. Despite the cries of outrage from both of these countries, CBS reportedly Cowan has the latest on today's developments from Martha's Vineyard. After a morning of intensive discussions with his national security team, the president prepared to resume his vacation in the quiet of Martha's Vineyard. He will leave behind the approval of the American public the ire of the Arab world, the threat of terrorist retaliation and heightened security at almost every conceivable U.S. target. Not everybody around the world has applauded this action. Indeed, in Pakistan, anti-American sentiments were raging. Early reports indicated that one of the 75 Tomahawk missiles launched from the Arabian Sea had veered off course and killed civilians. We know first that the so-called pharmaceutical company in Sudan was functionally destroyed. But Pentagon officials say the damage to the second site in northern Afghanistan, an area Saudi millionaire Osama bin Laden uses to train his terrorist army, will take a while to determine. Heavy clouds over the target are preventing satellites from getting a good image. But most agree the attack had hit hard. We know that we launched what we believed to be a successful attack upon a training camp, a terrorist training camp, and we believe it is successful. The White House was peppered with more questions today about the timing of this attack. When asked if there was any concern that it may appear to imitate the popular movie Wag the Dog, the White House spokesman would only say, I'm not a movie critic. Recall on CBS News Martha's Vineyard. And we'll, of course, have an update on this continuing story tonight at 6:00. U.S. leaders admit there may be reprisals for the bombings anywhere. There are Americans here in Maryland. That means security is tighter at many federal installations, including Fort Meade and Oden, ten headquarters of the National Security Agency. Only three of the base's entrances are open and guards are carefully screening anyone who does not have identification on their vehicle. Today was a big test for the Shipwrights and artisans restoring her. Keep in mind, she's been on land solid on moving land for a year and a half. Now she's in a dynamic situation. There are stresses on the hull that that have not been there, and we're going to watch that carefully and, you know, make sure that everything goes well. And it went very well. As hoped, she floats, water is seeping inside and being pumped out. But that should end once the wooden planking swells and seams seal. As Sky Chopper 13 shows, this is really only the shell of the ship. Decking and rigging must still be done. But to those who came to see her today, the constellation was all star. That still makes it historically important. However, it is the only such ship afloat, and it was the last all sail warship the Navy ever built. Okay, Alex, thank you for clearing that up. We can show you some video of the youngster. He appears to be about 2 or 3 years old. He was found in an alley behind 3100 Barrow Road. That's b r o Barrow Road in the Lansdowne area. Now, police went to an area near Regis Court where they thought he might have been walking from, but no one recognized the child. No one in the neighborhood seemed to know the little boy. Now, a lady was able to take care of his diapering this afternoon before they brought him over here to the precinct where he enjoyed some Oreo cookies and some grape juice. And he appears to be in very good health and in good shape, well-fed. But he doesn't speak very much. And he hasn't been able to tell officers his name or where he lives or anything about his mom or dad. So if anybody recognizes that little boy, they can call him at the Wilkins precinct. The number is area code (410) 887-0872. That number again. 8870872. If you recognize that little boy or can help him get hooked back up with his parents tonight. Okay. Okay. Thank you, Brenda. But Dr. Deena Dal explains what many don't know is how to put it on correctly. Under the eye. We're too far to the lip. As this man shows, skin cancer can be serious stuff. The best protection, of course, is to stay out of the sun. Otherwise, you need to wear a sunscreen, which can range from a sun protection factor of 2 to 45 or higher, with a recommended minimum of SPF 15 or so. And sunscreens do work if you put them on. Right. But that may not be as easy as it sounds. According to a new study, it seems most of us should take a class in applying suntan lotion because almost everybody tested low. In fact, only one quarter of the beach blanket bound subjects even began to get close. Only 1 in 4 put it on a cheek area correctly. 1 in 5 put it on the nose or forehead. But a third of women cover their forehead completely with sunscreen. But only 1 in 10 men applied it correctly to their brows. Now, Baltimore's number one 6:00 newscast. This is w Jay Z's Eyewitness News. Why did you do it? What happened? What provoked you to do it? I mean, was it an accident or I mean, really wasn't an accident? Or did you really want to shoot him? Through the eyes of neighbors, a horrible story of children, a gun and death. Tonight, a family and a neighborhood search for answers. Police and family want to know just what happened inside a white Marshalltown home that ended in the death of a 13 year old boy. Late this afternoon, the medical examiner's office ruled the death a homicide. Mike Shu has been following the developments and joins us now live. Mike, through the medical examiner says that the manner of death is a homicide. That doesn't necessarily mean that anyone would be charged with the killing of 13 year old John Price. Police say that the nine year old who's been questioned in the shooting thought that the gun was unloaded and didn't intend to shoot his friend. By the time the ambulance arrived, it was already too late for 13 year old John Price. The Perry Hall Middle School student was playing upstairs with three of his friends at this townhome when his buddy, a nine year old boy, came into the room. In the bedroom, the nine year old pointed the gun at the 13 year old and one shot was fired. The teen died at the scene. Besides the nine year old, there was an 11 and a 12 year old in the house, but no adults. What we learned so far is that it doesn't appear in any way to be an intentional shooting. I stood outside my porch and I cried and my mom's crying still because she's really close friends with the parents of a boy that died.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136474/file/253058#t=3647.76,3748.76"},{"id":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136474/file/253058/transcript/71197/annotation/36","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"Sarah Glover says she was John Price's best friend. He was a really good kid. I mean, he never did anything bad. And there was a lot of troublemakers in this neighborhood and he would never hang out with them. He would just keep to herself and stuff when he knew there was trouble around the suspected shooter. The nine year old didn't live here, but visited his father on weekends. Police say three bachelors, including his father, lived in this house. It's possible the criminal charges won't even be filed in this case. Right now, police are trying to determine what responsibility the gun owner had in this incident. Simply put, was the gun owner aware that children would be in his house and that they could get to his gun without regard to the legal issues? Some people here have their own questions for the nine year old, why did you do it or what happened? What provoked you to do it? I mean, wasn't an accident. Well, I mean, really wasn't an accident. Or did you really want to shoot him? This death is tough on everyone, especially since every time John Price, his family walks out their front door, they see this house where their son died. This investigation could take a few more days and ultimately it will be the state's attorney's office in Baltimore County, which will make the determination if any charges will be filed. We do, however, know that the nine year old will not be charged as an adult, as a suspect, must be 14 before the prosecutors can even think about bringing adult charges. Well, why isn't there a law here in Maryland that guns have to be locked up whenever children are present? Well, yes, there is. Pakistan later said that was not the case, but insisted it should have been notified of any attack on one of its neighbors. In Sudan, protesters storm the empty U.S. embassy, tearing down walls and desecrating the American flag. Not far away, the search for bodies continued in the rubble of one of the U.S. targets, a pharmaceutical factory or a chemical weapons facility. It didn't matter. The missiles had done their job. We know first that the so-called pharmaceutical company in Sudan was functionally destroyed. That includes the Fallin Building downtown and Fort Meade and ten headquarters of the National Security Agency. We would say we would encourage those that do business regularly at Fort Meade, vendors, contractors, people visiting people here and going to some of the shops and so on, that they really should heavily consider getting a vehicle decal at the fallen building downtown. Decking and rigging must still be done, but tons of lumber used to get the ship this far is no longer needed, so it is being donated to Habitat for Humanity. That was the sentence handed down in federal court today to convicted drug lord Anthony Jones. Stan Saunders is standing by live with more on the man who prosecutors say ordered contracted hits on victims from his jail cell Stan. Kelly, when Judge William Nicholson announced the sentence of life with no parole, Anthony or Jenny Jones said nothing while staring at the table where he said. Meantime, prosecutors are concerned that jail time won't stop him from masterminding more violent crimes from behind bars. Before sentencing at the federal courthouse downtown today, more than 53 offenses hung over 25 year old Anthony R Uni Jones's head. They included several murders, attempted murder, kidnaping, drug distribution and retaliation against federal witnesses. His punishment? Life with no parole. I'm satisfied with that. But I don't care what they do to Anthony or the rest of his followers that I never bring my son back or anybody else's son. Maxine Crooks told me Anthony Jones ordered her late son, Jerry. They describe him as a vicious killer who, while awaiting trial, used his own coded language on jail phones to kill opponents, including his own foster brother who cooperated with federal authorities. After Anthony Jones was sentenced today. The prosecutor made a special request to the judge that while incarcerated, Jones received no mail. She also asked that he have no visitation except for attorneys. And one other thing, she wanted to make sure that Jones has no calls or is able to send out calls for fear that he will order more contract hits from behind bars. The judge will make a decision in about ten days. I believe with people like Anthony out of our neighborhood and community, we can sleep better at night. One other footnote to the story. Maxine Crooks, the lady you just heard from, also told me that she and her family are coping with her son's death pretty hard. They've all been in therapy for four years now. And that includes Jerry Crooks, only daughter, his seven year old daughter, Kelli. Well, how did Anthony Jones managed to escape the death penalty, Stan? Well, two months ago, when Jones was sentenced, prosecutors argued for the death penalty. However, the jury that convicted him decided against it, and they did that probably because other drug ring members involved in several murders did not get the death penalty themselves after cooperating with federal authorities Carol. Leonard and Rose Barron first saw one another back in the spring of 1928. Was it love at first sight? It had to be. It had to be. When they met, a guy named Goldberg was already dating Rose.
