Look, I don't want to give Ms. Marriner's a fit. I'm a little square, you know. I understand. You know, I tell you the honest truth, it's just gone by so fast. It didn't hit me till today. I mean, I got, look, I've got news for you. Winter starts tomorrow, as far as I'm concerned. You blow off Labor Day, and the end of summer, I mean falls real pretty and everything, but sociologically. I saw Halloween cards out. Oh, yeah. Talk about something that will really throw you into a fit of depression. Let's go ahead and talk about the Look at this, I can't even hold a pen. Let's go ahead and talk about the weather. We definitely ended the summer in fine shape. Very frankly, we had a few more clouds around than we thought we would, but it didn't dull the spirits at the Demonium State Fair or anywhere at all. A lot of people have their Labor Day parties today. Joy themselves at the beaches and the mountains. Right now on TV Hill. As we draw summer to a close, I'm gonna start the ball here in just a second in a severe way. 86 in the city, 83 in the suburbs. Winds west at seven, humidity 57%. Grometer 3010 in 3013 it is falling. Here's your tide sunsets tonight. It's 737 Oh my goodness. I gotta quit thinking these thoughts soon. It's gonna be standard time. It'll be getting dark at quarter to five Oh, have mercy on the bay 74 degree in just a short period of time on the Bay. It will be 34 degrees crabs only from texas I gotta stop winds from the west of variable ten knots that'll continue through tonight through tomorrow no advisories on the bay let's get on into this thing here's an evening radar summary quickly we'll talk about elena once again she's a tropical storm located now northwest of new orleans about 80 miles and continuing to move in a northerly direction uh luckily the storm held off in the coast long enough that just about everybody was out of its path three unfortunate deaths but folks it could have been a whole lot worse this was a class three hurricane. They had winds reported of 100. 22 miles an hour. That was in Dauphine, Alabama. In manatee springs florida they had eleven point four four inches of rain this was a bad storm but everybody got out of the way of it and that's what counts now moving in a northerly direction by thursday it'll be a rain storm here and that just about it in our area high pressure still controlling our weather located down along the carolina coast uh... We did have a frontal system very close to us today hence the clouds and temperatures that could have been a lot warmer statewide right now things are relatively cool for this day this time of the year we had a lot of sunshine today these temperatures would be about six degrees up 81 now in Oakland 83 degrees in Cumberland 83 degrees near Dover and Fenwick Island 82 degrees Ocean City 83 degrees and Salisbury all in all it's gonna be relatively calm night throughout the state we're expecting no real rain take a look at our cloud cover map Here's where we got our clouds from today. A stalled frontal system just to our north. It's not even going to make it down to the south. This is a mammoth area of high pressure. It is controlling the weather all along the southern Atlantic coastal states. It'll push this thing north tomorrow as a warm front. Our weather the next three days is going to be very warm, humid, and sultry. I didn't put the hurricane symbol over the remnants of Elena. Look at that classic swirling pattern. Let's take a look at tomorrow's map. Here's that frontal system blasting north as a warm front, this still controlling our weather. Warm, humid and muggy until about Thursday. Then the remnants of Atlanta, nothing more than an area of low pressure, will attach to this cold front. The whole ball of wax moves in an easterly direction. We'll get some rain, clear the area out. Then high pressure comes down out of Canada. And the first weekend of winter is gonna be all right. Partly cloudy, humid, low of 65. Tomorrow's gonna be partly to mostly sunny day. Warm and humid, very, very summer-like. Look for a high of 88 degrees. That's active weather for tonight. We'll talk about the rest of the week in a little while.
text/plain
https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/149183/file/273809#t=1451.15,1670.88
https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/149183/file/273809/transcript/80233/annotation/87
Speaker 1: I'll tell you something that will make you feel better. Although i don't know the pitching i think an early one going out there on labor day we had a tough time with the pitching the last couple of days and so far it's holding up only because the Orioles have scored a whole bunch of runs you know it was a weekend that kind of summed up the whole season back-to-back shutouts by Orioles pitchers heading in on thursday and friday and back-the-back blowouts by the opposition on saturday and sunday and there was another kind of high note low note on jim palmer day which It was a great day, but only 29,000 people. Plus showed up to honor the bird's best ever on the mound. So there's a Labor Day Twilight special underway right now at the stadium. And it's a wild one. In the second inning tied at one, John Shelby knocks it off the wall and Tommy John and knock two in. He got three bases, it's three to one. Then Richie Dower knocked it through the infield to make it four to one Orioles. In all, they'll score seven runs in the second any. I watch Alan Wiggins here lays down a beauty and he moves Dower on over to second, so it's first and second. A cow followed with a home run but it was foul I'm sorry, first Lee Lacey knocks one into the gap out there in right field and that sets it up for cow Ripken jr. Who hit one that was just foul for a homerun got another chance against Steve McHattie and this time gets it about two feet inside the pole for a three run homer, his ninth feet that made it eight to one but Oakland has hit three home runs of their own and it's now nine to four Orioles in the fourth inning at the stadium. Yesterday, if watching Jim Palmer being honored wasn't enough to stir up those old memories, just a couple of hours ago at the stadium, some more golden oldies took the field, and you recognize Boog, Powell, and Frank Robinson. Kyle Sr. On the mound, Ellie Hendricks behind it, and the O's of the 80s will watch these giants in the 60s and early 70s in a home run hitting contest. First, Boog with a majestic blaster right field for the home run. Then Frank Robinson with four or 586 coming in, Lines went into the seats in left field. But the final and winning blow belonged to Boog, with a blast straight out of Margaritaville. And he won the home run hitting contest 3 to 1. Just to show there were no hard feelings. But look at those two guys. Who would you have picked to win it before? Now already today, the Blue Jays have a win over Cleveland. And the Yankees have matched that, nipping Seattle 8 to 7. This at Yankee Stadium this afternoon and early. It's Ken Griffey with a clean hit in there. And Henderson will try to gun down Ricky Henderson. They don't get him, and the Yanks led 1-0. Two outs later, Winfield to the plate, sends a drive, arcing towards the wall. Philip Bradley will leap, but he can't haul this one in. And Winfield drove in four, and in the second inning, bases loaded. Griffey again slings one in there. The Yankees with a big lead, but they have to hold on at the end for an 8-7 win over Seattle. That was important because Dave, Steve, and Toronto beat Cleveland 3-2. California clouded Detroit 11-1. In the sixth inning philadelphia and san diego are tied at three now in the seventh pittsburgh nipped atlanta and houston took chicago easily seven to two moving towards a showdown now john mcconroe and baris boom boom becker in the quarterfinals of the u.s. Tennis open a heavy schedule on this labor day at fleshing meadows this afternoon and john mcconroe with one of the rare light moments in his match the tomas smith this afternoon And John a little bit upset with the officiating as this is one as he gets closer. To the final here at the U.S. Open, went on to win in straight set 6-3, 7-5, and 6-2. And now, Boris Becker, and this match is underway, and he is trailing right now in the second set to Joaquin Nystrom. He lost the first set 6 to 2 and is trailling in the second, set 4-1. He would play McEnroe next. At match point, Martina Navratilova in her straight set win, 6-4 and 7- 5. Pam Schreiver moved on today into the quarterfinals And there is Chris Evert-Loy. She is in the second set of her match at this moment with Robin White. She won the first, the second, set just underway. From pro football today, the NFL cut down to size for the regular season today. With the skins shipping their top draft pick of this year, defensive back Tori Nixon to San Francisco for an undisclosed draft pick. I get the Seattle cut quarterback Jim Zorn. Texas pitcher Dave Stewart thinks that he gets the third out on the tail end of the double And a run scored. And Mets catcher, Gary Carter, thinks he has a third strike in and out. Wrong. A lot of water kept the fire from St. Phillips, but nothing could keep the flames from walking wood roof rafters from 1012 to 1010, where they did considerable damage to a house occupied by eight people.
text/plain
https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/149183/file/273809#t=2955.33,2992.48
https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/149183/file/273809/transcript/80233/annotation/125
Speaker 37: Well, the ceilings on the second and the third floor and the walls on the second floor and the third floors are torn out upstairs. What I remember is crying and screaming for my mommy for about half an hour. But school helps you mature. By the time I reached my first day of high school, I wasn't crying for my mother for more than 10 or 15 minutes. This is known as personal growth. Education, after all, is more than just reading and arithmetic. In Baltimore City, for example, Superintendent Alice Pinderhughes is stressing the look of schools this year. When the kids show up tomorrow, she wants them dressed nicely. And school board head Robert Embry wants a sense of citizenship to be emphasized. What good is it, afterall, if we're graduating kids who don't know how to conduct themselves once they're out of class. That's a very crucial question in twentieth century america along the way the schools have to keep in mind the primary function reading and arithmetic which have been a problem in recent years in the old days the kids would cry on the first day of school in america today sometimes we cry for our kids and for their schools i'm michael olesker Thank you, Michael.
text/plain
https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/149183/file/273809#t=3267.29,3350.78
https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/149183/file/273809/transcript/80233/annotation/142
Speaker 2: Up next, we have a look at the week ahead with Marty's exclusive AccuWeather 5-day forecast.
text/plain
https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/149183/file/273809#t=3351.46,3355.74
https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/149183/file/273809/transcript/80233/annotation/143
Speaker 1: And how would you spend your last day of freedom with some school kids headed to Ocean City?
