I'm Tim Williams. It is 71 degrees. And I'm Deborah Stone in for Katie Lyon. Thanks for joining us. Thanks for being here. A pleasure. We used to get to sit outside next to each other in the newsroom, though not very often. Now, so good to have you. Thank you. It is, of course, August the 16th and a very nice day starting off, but it could go downhill from here. We'll explain that in just a moment. But just know that it's an overcast, kind of hazy day this Sunday morning. You're looking live at the zoo down at the what is that, the what building is there? That's the conservatory. Okay. And I have on Good, good, good reference that there is a new petting zoo down there at the zoo. Also with goats and all kinds of nice little animals hasn't been open very long. It is a nice view. We're looking at 71 degrees as we wake up. 72 in downtown Baltimore reported our high temperature could get up to 86 degrees and chance of showers increases, as we said by later this evening, closer to sundown. We look at 72 tonight with a lot of clouds and showers in the forecast. And air quality is at the yellow, which is above average and not too bad. So if you have any breathing disorders, today might be a fairly nice day to get out. Of course, we have a complete first morning forecast in just about eight minutes. But first, let's take a look at the top story of the morning. President Clinton may have to backpedal and change his story in the Monica Lewinsky matter. The latest out of Washington this morning is that the president may admit to the grand jury that he had a, quote, inappropriate relationship with the former White House intern. David Brody has the latest from Washington. The president will change his story about his relationship with Monica Lewinsky. That's the word from two close advisers to the president, who, speaking on condition of anonymity, are quoted in published reports as saying The president's most famous public statement on the subject is no longer operative. What did I tell you? The AP quotes the second adviser as saying the president has disclosed the relationship with Lewinsky to his wife, even while publicly denying it. The advisers cautioning the president could still change his mind before his testimony, which is scheduled for Monday afternoon. And the advisers are said to be telling the president he should also express regret for taking six and a half months to, in their words, come clean about the relationship they've brought. CBS News, New York. And later in this newscast, we'll talk with a local attorney who can tell us what goes on behind the closed doors of a grand jury. And local news this morning, police are searching for a burglary suspect this morning. They say he shot and killed a Baltimore City homeowner. It happened about 2:00 this morning. And that's where we find the weekend team. Brenda Karl, she joins us live from police headquarters in northwest Baltimore. Brenda, good morning to him. I'm at police headquarters downtown where city homicide detectives had very little to go on in the overnight homicide. A man found shot to death at a home on Ridgewood Avenue. And it's going to progressively get worse and unsettled as the day and the week moves on. This is basically what we have. If you want to look at actual terms, what's actually falling? We have rain down to the south of D.C., moving in across West Virginia, right across Roanoke, up right on through Richmond. Now over to Tim and his special guest. Well, will it be he said she said, will what will he be asked when it time comes for President Clinton to testify during a grand jury hearing on the Monica Lewinsky matter tomorrow? Well, joining us to talk about that is defense attorney. Well, we were just we were just talking about how this is happening. Richard Caskey, you are a defense attorney practicing since 1969 and 2000. You know this game very, very well. And you're here to share some insight with what could possibly go on tomorrow. Thanks so much for being here. We're talking it's very early to be talking legal ese, this early on a Sunday morning. Richard, tell us this is one of those things. First off, just kind of lay the groundwork. What is the responsibility of a grand jury in a case like this? The grand jurors are fact finders. And what their responsibility is, is to hear the testimony of witnesses that the prosecution presents. Prosecutors will present these witnesses one at a time before the fact finders and after all of the evidence is presented to the grand jury and the prosecutor together can formulate an opinion to pass on to whomever the opinion should be delivered to.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136711/file/253419#t=1306.42,1414.04"},{"id":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136711/file/253419/transcript/71558/annotation/15","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"It's it's good to understand that the grand jurors can make requests. They can ask the prosecutor to subpoena or request a certain person to testify. So it's not all the prosecutors doing. The grand jury does have a role in participating in this process. Okay. President Clinton, of course, unlike Monica Lewinsky, is not being offered any type of immunity in this case. What does that mean for him? Everything that he says can be used against him. How does this work for his case? That's absolutely right. In fact, he's not even subpoenaed. It's my understanding that he's a voluntary witness before the grand jury. And that means that at any point, if he chose, he could get up and walk out of the proceeding. And he need not answer every question. He can invoke his Fifth Amendment privilege and remain silent so he can pick and choose, so to speak, to answer the questions that he would like. Okay. We want to remind our viewers of a particular comment that the president made. Take a listen right now and then we'll talk about this after we hear it. I want to say one thing to the American people. I want you to listen to me. I'm going to say this again. I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Ms.. Lewinsky. I never told anybody to lie. Not a single time. Never. These allegations are false. Okay. Well, we've heard that comment. We're hearing now that it could be retracted. What would that mean? We're talking about terms we've heard obstruction of justice. We've heard, you know, perjury. What does all this mean in this case? Well, what it means, first off is I think President Clinton would like not to have made that comment because now he's stuck with having to explain the comment.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136711/file/253419#t=1414.76,1515.47"},{"id":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136711/file/253419/transcript/71558/annotation/16","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"If he's going to go forward and testify. He has limited options. His options are to simply say there was no sexual relation by any definition or to give an explanation of what he believes a sexual relation may or may not be. He if he chooses to answer, obviously he is stuck with with those comments. If something comes about that is able to be proved that he is not telling the truth under oath, he too, despite the fact that he's the president, can be charged with perjury and the obstruction of justice phase of it is, did he or did he not say anything to Monica Lewinsky about what she should say at her deposition when it was taken back in January regarding the Paula Jones incident? If he did if he urged her not to tell the truth, then he would be obstructing justice or suborning her perjury. Two very serious charges. And we also are expecting to hear some kind of response from the president after the grand jury. People are expecting him to address the American people. We keep hearing a term mea culpa. Explain that to us. Well, that's when I guess there is nothing left but to throw yourself on the floor and to say I'm sorry for what I have said or for what I have done. It is an act where you do not defend yourself, but more apologize for what you have done. The question will be if there is a mea culpa coming from President Clinton, to what extent will it be and how full will it be? Okay, We've heard that same type of thing with televangelists. We only have about a half inch of rain accumulated for August so far. We're looking at 86 degrees today, under partly cloudy skies. We'll say 84 tomorrow. Temperature stays on the increase, humidity climbs. Also with the forecast. It gets very warm by Tuesday, 88, up to about 90 on Wednesday and Thursday, actually, with a lot of sun in the forecast temperature each night right around 70 degrees. First thing we want to do in making a pot is to get the clay centered. And that means that it's turning without any wobbles at all. So we start out dry. We add water to it. Once that piece of clay is centered, then I can open it with my thumbs. And then start to send out the clay. This is called a pole with pressure from the fingers of both hands. We're moving the clay up to send out the clay to a good thickness for this sized piece. And then when we decide that that's what we want. We used this stick and then the wire, the nylon fishing line. Some people use a cutting wire. And we pick it up. I'm going to use a chopstick to make this kind of a segmented pot like a pumpkin. And Clay is a little bit wet at the moment, but I'll fix it. It's not round anymore, but I'll make it round again when you put a spout on a pot. You want to make sure for a teapot that it's going to hold as much t as possible. So I want this on a level with the top. And the other thing you need to do is make sure you put some holes in here so the T can pour out. Here is our spout, using the same basic process. Elaine makes a handle for the pot and a stem for the lid. And there you have it.
