Tonight, city fire investigators are still trying to find out what caused a two alarm blaze on Baltimore Avenue near Dundalk early this morning. A city firefighter was slightly injured battling the fire, which broke out just after 330. It was controlled in 40 minutes. Three rowhouses were gutted. Only one of them was occupied, though. The residents of that are with relatives tonight. Tonight in Hackberry, Louisiana, firefighters are trying to extinguish a giant oil fire which has been burning for three days now. An explosion ignited thousands of barrels of crude oil underground in the Federal oil reserve early Thursday. One man is known dead. And a lot of golfers on the golf course today because it was such a perfect day to be out. A beautiful day. Also coming up tomorrow. Let's take a look at our map tonight and show you why things were even a little bit better than we expected them to be. High pressure now over parts of New York State pushed the frontal system, which was through through our region yesterday. And we thought it was going to be stuck around the Richmond, Virginia, area. Pushed it way down to the south. It's over northern Florida now. So we're only getting a few clouds off the Atlantic Ocean with some of that east to occasionally southeasterly flow coming in. And it's rather cool, mostly in the 60s here in the east to the west on the backside of this high pressure system. Things warming up a little bit. Some 70s and a few 80s in the southern quadrant of the United States this afternoon. And some of that warmer weather will begin to move in here a little bit tomorrow, a little bit more on Monday. Right now, medical authorities in Baltimore and in Memphis are getting closer to an explanation for the sudden outbreaks of Legionnaires disease among their populations. Locally, the state health department is analyzing blood from Maryland veterans just back from a national convention in Dallas. 12 of the hundred area vets may have contracted Legionnaires disease while there. There are no confirmed cases yet, but we'll know better on Monday when officials can contact several veterans who have been out of touch since their return from Dallas. The Maryland is all staying at the DuPont Plaza Hotel in Dallas, but authorities there can't find the cause of the outbreak. In Memphis, though, seen here. Investigators have pinpointed the source of the outbreak. The legionella bacteria were found in the cooling tower of a Memphis hospital air conditioner from which it apparently sprayed into the air.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136038/file/252382#t=940.96,1106.18"},{"id":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136038/file/252382/transcript/70795/annotation/10","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"One thing about cooling towers, which is suggestive, is that they send up a spray of water. This is one of their ways of cooling and it creates an aerosol. We're talking about a disease which in the various outbreaks investigated appears to have been transmitted through airborne transmission. Administrators at Baptist Hospital have already decontaminated the air conditioning system there, but only after the disease sickened 11 people and killed one man. The other health campaign underway in Baltimore this weekend is an effort to immunize city schoolchildren against childhood diseases. Several hundred public school students may not be admitted to classes Monday because they don't have proof of the required shots. Free clinics are open all weekend at Douglas and Dunbar High schools. But some parents feel those extra shots are not needed. As far as I know, he had all of his shots. I previously, you know, took him to the clinic, but I wasn't satisfied with the service. So I took him to a pediatrician and he had all of his shots because you have to have them when you go to school anyway. And, you know, I couldn't prove it because the pediatrician died, so I didn't have any choice but to bring him up and have him take them again. It wasn't required by the schools that they have specific dates and the parents would just go in and say that the children had had the shots and this was adequate previously. But now they have to have specific dates when the shots were given or else they have to give them repeated. And if that is the case, you can take your child to either shot clinic tomorrow. The public health hospital had a lot of empty beds until now. The surrounding community was short of doctors, so the two got together. Finally here. You can come here for emergencies. Okay. But an ambulance would not bring you here. Even if it's outside the door. What is different is the fact that the hospital was traditionally off limits. This is unique in that the hospital has opened its doors to the community, that cooperating with the community and the community knows they're interested in us and we're able to use this service that has always been here. The problem for people in this area is that they weren't quite poor enough to qualify for a lot of free medical programs. And they're not well-to-do enough to pay the soaring costs of medical care. Not one of those congressman or senator said it couldn't be done. They all said it could be done and it was reasonable and workable. Coupling that we want a $50 billion cut immediately and federal income tax over four years, that's $12.5 billion a year. And that's about a 20% cut in the federal income tax of every citizen in the United States. Jarvis also blasted the state's gubernatorial candidates, both of whom have indicated they would oppose Proposition 13 like move in this state. The majority of Maryland's congressional delegation voted for a modified version of the bill to fund the Comprehensive Employment Training Act.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136038/file/252382#t=1400.28,1615.43"},{"id":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136038/file/252382/transcript/70795/annotation/14","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"Nearly $1 billion of the original package was dropped in order to get the measure passed in the House of Representatives. He was stumping in Pennsylvania and Ohio this afternoon. This is the president's second outing of the week. He traveled to the Steelworkers convention in Atlantic City Thursday to discuss the economy. Today, he talked to the Middle East and the results of that long Camp David summit. Palestinian Jews, Arabs and Christians, in my opinion, should have a maximum opportunity for change to escape the military occupation rule and to have their own government within which they can manage their own affairs. The president said he has great hopes for Secretary of State Cyrus Vance's overseas mission, a mission to enlist the support of Middle Eastern leaders for that Camp David Accord. The long journey is over tonight for Egyptian President Anwar Sadat. He's back home in Cairo at this hour. After more than a million people packed the streets of that city to give the leader a hero's welcome home. Many held signs saying with you, we shall end the war. Their enthusiasm for the Camp David, some of the chord was, in Sadat's word, overwhelming. But many hard line Arab leaders don't share those pro summit feelings. Jordan's King Hussein is one of those leaders. Tonight, he warns of serious repercussions of Egypt and Israel agree to a peace treaty without the other Arab states. As part of the Infinite Fight for Life marathon. And that's going to be held tomorrow at the Adventures Inherent Resort Town Road in Parksville. I'll be there sometime between 12 and 2. And if you're in the area, come by. It's for a good cause. So I'm getting my hair cut for the infants. Fight for life a little off the top. We had a wonderful day to day. First day of fall. I hope you all enjoyed it. Let's take a look what's happening right now. Skies are clear and it's definitely getting chilly. It feels very much like fall because some temperatures in the suburbs are down into the low to mid 50s. Currently right here on television. Here we are down to well, we've got 59 here, a little bit warmer down in the city, 15 Celsius humidity, 79%. And this is the way people were jiving and messing around tonight on Greenmount Avenue. A good night to be out, folks walking by down the street, get some books to read and they're taking in a nice movie, A beautiful night out tonight. No rain, no precipitation, hardly any clouds tonight. And it's kind of chilly. You can see folks wearing their sweaters once again as I did break out the core, Roy, because it's about that time, I'm afraid. Let's take a look at our map tonight and I show you what's causing the beautiful weather. And the first day of fall. Most of the country enjoying a really nice day. The only exception, a few showers down in Florida along a weak funnel system down there. A little bit of shower activity, very weak over the northern part of the Great Lakes as another frontal system and northern plains begins to move in. This is a more cool air, more cooler air moving toward our region. So it looks like we will have a nice cool night tonight and a little bit of warming taking place on the next day or so. And then some reinforcing cool air will move in probably Monday. So it looks like some great days coming up. Temperatures mostly in the 60s here in the east, some 70s and 80s down to south 60s and 70s out to the west and again, mostly 60s to our northwest. The hot spot in the United States. The reserve catcher of the Birds is scampering in the third with a stand up triple. Two batters later watch Pat Kelly late swan into right field. Of course no trouble at all for Mr. Skaggs to score and it was one nothing the birds. The tigers tied it and then went ahead in the eighth. Bases loaded. Jason Thompson was issued a walk with the bases loaded by the Orioles starter Denny Martinez, who really should have ended up the winner.
