Baltimore County Police continue to investigate the disappearance of the son of accused child killer Elizabeth Manning. Manning, a Baltimore native, is now in a Boulder, Colorado jail for allegedly killing her three -year -old son and burying him in Denver. But authorities have wondered where a second son born in Baltimore is. Now police say they have new information from a Baltimore area woman and are following up on that lead. Accused drug dealer Anthony Grandison, recently in court on distribution charges, will face a court again for charges related to the machine gun death of a federal witness at the Warren House Motel in Pikesville. Grandison is charged with federal witnesses tampering charges and says he wants to represent himself in the case. And now a federal judge says he will allow Grandison to represent himself even though he doesn't think it's a good idea. Senator Tommy Broadwater was back in Baltimore federal court today on charges of food stamp fraud. And today, an accountant in the U .S. Attorney's Office traced the flow of black market food stamps through Broadwater's grocery store to the Federal Reserve Bank. Broadwater is accused, with four others, of trafficking more than $70 ,000 in food stamps. Candidates for Baltimore City's mayoral seat vied on live television last night, but will they go at it again? Probably not, says Mayor Don Schafer, who debated the issues with Billy Murphy, Jr., Lawrence Freeman, and Monroe Cornish. Billy Murphy says he would like to debate again on a one -on -one basis with the mayor. Freeman says, though, that would be unfair. Baltimore's debate over who will put cable TV in the city may have a new angle this evening. Caltech Cable in Baltimore County was a leading contender for the franchise, but that didn't come about. At a public hearing, Caltech's main competitor was Cox Cable Television. Now published reports say there may be a merger between the two companies who may submit a joint bid to Baltimore City for consideration. When we return, I'll update you on BG \u0026E's progress to put power back into the homes that Thursday's storm knocked out. And it's day one of Artscape in Baltimore, and already there's controversy. I'll tell you what it is when we return. Well, Baltimore's Artscape 83 is well under way in the Mount Royal Avenue area, but it's getting a little competition from other artists who are not entirely supportive of Artscape. More than 250 artists and groups are participating in Artscape 83, including 30 performances by such well -known artists as the Ohio Ballet, opera star Veronica Tyler, and the renowned Folks Blue soloist Taj Mahal. The Free Arts Festival features seven visual arts exhibits. 57 artists from the Maryland area were chosen from over 600 entries. And from them, Artscape coordinator Kathleen Lockery says $14 ,500 prize winners will be selected. Two bodies were recovered from the river today along with the wreckage, while two other passengers of the plane were rescued from the river shortly after the crash. cause of the collision is unknown. The plane was en route to Virginia from Atlantic City. Thursday night's storm had its ill effects here in Baltimore, but things are looking somewhat up tonight. Thursday's winds and rain were so strong, it knocked down a vacant high -rise and caused havoc for motorists. It also knocked out power to over 115 ,000 BG \u0026E customers. But tonight, only about 100 homes are without power, and those homes are mainly in Hartford County. Frank, it's the Orioles six, and the Oakland A's won the game now in the ninth inning of play. The Orioles have come up with a couple of home runs in this game. Eddie Murray hit his 19th home run. Murray has been doing a very good job lately, and Kyle Ripken hit his 16th, so that means 35 home runs by the two. hitters in the lineup number three and number four. Rick Dempsey doubled, was balked over to third and then wild pitched home to give the Orioles a three to one advantage. The Orioles added three more in the ninth inning on a Jim Dwyer two run double and a Todd Cruz sacrifice fly. Storm Davis has stopped the A's on four base hits again. The Orioles leading six to one over the A's for the game now in the ninth inning of play. In the National League this afternoon, the San Diego Padres beat the Chicago Cubs 4 -2 at Wrigley Field in Chicago. The Padres scored in the fourth inning as Terry Kennedy, one of the better catchers in baseball, homered to deep center field. For Kennedy, his seventh home run came off of Dickie Knowles and San Diego led 1 -0 in the fourth. Padres added another run after a walk to 6 -0 Lescano. An all out effort there, good try by Keith Morland, but Salazar's two run triple helps San Diego to a 4 -2 win as we check the scoreboard now in the American League. San Diego beat Chicago by a score of 4 -2. Well, the Atlanta Braves winning over the Philadelphia Phillies 6 -5, Bob Watson's bases loaded walk broke a five tie, Thiel Murphy hit his 21st home run, and the Pittsburgh Pirates won over the San Francisco Giants 5 -2, Dave Parker knocked in for the two run double and a two run homer, the Pirates are in first place in the National League East after 11 wins in their last 13 games. Jeff Thompson shot a 66, he has the lead after three rounds of the greater Baltimore Open Golf Tournament at Hillendale. Earlier today, Bob Charles shot a 72. He's way back though, trailing by 14 strokes. Tomorrow's final round will be played at Hillendale. Simply a beautiful course where there are so many accommodating people out there. Kermit Zarley shot a 65 today and he trails by 7. Now Thomas in the leads, as we can take a look maybe at the leaderboard, Russ Cochran and Frank Connor by one stroke. Then there's George Archer trailing by 2 at 208. Bob Twey and Joey Sindelar also trailing and Terry Snodgrass in that group there, Paul Oglesby even along with Mark Widby. Colts held a controlled scrimmage before a sparse crowd at the stadium against the Red Skin rookies and free agents. The format turned into six series of twelve offensive plays for each team. The field was only sixty yards long. It was marked off from second base toward the outfield with only one goal post erected. Now the first impressions, the Colts offensive line, especially that left side of Jeff Mills, or make that Jim Mills, excuse me, and Chris Hinton outplayed the Redskins defensive line on the right side. Quarterback Jim Bob Taylor showed more in the scrimmage than he has on the practice field at Goucher. Phil Smith, the fourth round choice from San Diego State, made several nice catches. Colts losing, though, 26 -23. That really didn't matter, though. What the scrimmage did was give Frank Cush a chance to evaluate some of the agents who are hoping beyond hope that they might have an NFL career. Now, action from the stadium during the second offensive series for the Colts. Jim Bob Taylor showed more in the scrimmage than he really has down in the practice field. He hits Phil Smith here for a big game. Smith wearing number six, the fourth round choice from San Diego State. The Colts again losing it 26 to 23. 62 yards in catches for Phil Smith. Impressive day for him. Prince McCord carried the ball five times for 38 yards. Wentz was almost tackled there by Kevin Kellum, but he ran away for a nice game. McCord scored one of two Colt touchdowns, and he takes it in right here. One of two Colt touchdowns on the day. Jamie Giles bidding to back up Leo Wisniewski as the nose tackle nails the quarterback there for the Redskins, Bob Holley. Colts also made a nice goal line stand. It was probably the defensive highlight of the game, stopping the skins there on four downs. Greg Porter kicked a long field goal for the Colts in excess of 40 yards. Bob Holly of through the scrimmage's only touchdown of the game, a 35 yarder, DeRay Arnold. This was really a nice play. It came right after they had scored a touchdown down the other end, real close in. And John Borso, a 41 yard field goal for the Skins, most of these players again getting the only shot that they'll probably ever get in a National Football League training camp. Jim Bob Taylor, a real surprise, especially the offensive line play of Mills and Hinton. Phil Smith and Prince McCord may wind up pushing some of the players if they can't Thanks for watching! in a play as well as they have in the past. McCord certainly showed flashes of brilliance out there. The Skins again win it over the Colts 26 -23. Now there are some other things worth mentioning today. The Toronto Blue Jays have played six extra inning games and won all six. Bobby Cox says he didn't realize that and called it just pure luck. The Los Angeles Rams have announced the retirement of a defensive tackle by the name of Larry Brooks. He has been slowed by injuries the last two years and played down in his college football career. Also, Everson Walls, the star defensive back for the Dallas Cowboys, has rejected an offer recently given by the Cowboys. Walls says he'll stay retired until he gets the deal he wants. Well, anyway, speaking of cool, what? Gonna have to finish that later, don't use it all, Frank. The cold front that came through on Thursday night with all that heavy rain gave us a nice day on Friday. Pushing back through right now is a warm front, and there are some showers ahead of it. Matter of fact, there are some severe thunderstorm warnings, but not for our area. We'll get into that in a moment. Right now on Television Hill, let's look at the current statistics. 79 degrees, 52 humidity, winds are westerly at six, and the barometer at 29 .85, steady. Here are the tides, high and low, and our sunrise, 524, sunset the morning night at 827. Well, you know, it really is a good evening for crabs and whatever you have along with it. And that is nice hot sauce. Good to get up to 88 degrees. That was in the city. It was 87 out of BWI Airport. Let's take a quick look at our radar now, and I'll show you just what we're talking about in the way of storms. There is a cell right now in north central Virginia moving southeasterly in about 30 miles an hour. Now there are some severe thunderstorm alerts and right at the moment they're posted for the mountains and the panhandle of Maryland and also portions of West Virginia. We don't anticipate anything severe will move in our direction. However, in the forecast for tonight we are saying there is a chance of a shower or a thunder shower. But what we see right now, and they have a tendency to weaken as the sun goes down, storms like this associated with this kind of frontal system, so what we're seeing now is if we do get any rain, it'll probably be of a very light variety. Here's the map. You'll see all the clouds. The big band of clouds stretching all the way here across Cape Cod and across the top of New England and over here in the New York state are all associated with the warm front pushing north. They're kind of warm weather clouds. What happens is the warm weather moves a little bit north, the warmer temperatures overriding clouds, overriding the cold and causing those. Back here, some pretty good looking thunderstorms in the Ohio Valley. They had temperatures up to 100, 103 degrees in Cincinnati. Thanks for watching. And with all that heat, the heat has a tendency to generate the intensity of the storms. Most of that though looks like it will happen in the Ohio Valley all the way back to Indiana. Tomorrow our map will be like this with the frontal system coming in a little bit closer to us. The warm front is still right about here and that means we'll probably get some clouds and maybe the chance of a rain or a thunder shower through about the middle of the day and then it will end up being a pretty fair day. High pressure moving in, cooling things off, be a perfect day. Monday just the way it was Friday. and uh... by the middle of the week maybe some more humidity here's tonight's map and here's the way things are looking right now eighty and dc eighty two degrees in salisbury seventy nine along the ocean the showers were talking about the morning for us probably will happen in the afternoon out the ocean five -day forecast for mackie whether looks like a good day eighty seven degrees but the threat of a thundershower in the morning and maybe tonight eighty seven degrees the high monday and tuesday good days wednesday and Here's a chance of thundershowers and 88 degrees. The Baltimore medical community tonight is hailing President Reagan for urging that all Americans donate their organs when they die so that others may live. The Maryland Organ Procurement Center says the Reagan support is the best thing that could have happened for awaiting transplant recipients. The president's announcement came just before he left for a weekend at Camp David Maryland. It came during his radio address in which he urged all Americans to carry donor cards allowing their organs to be offered for transplants. He added impetus to the plea when he voiced a nationwide appeal for a liver to save the life of 11 -month -old Ashley Bailey, who is in critical condition at a Minneapolis hospital. The Maryland Organ Procurement Center is located here at University Hospital, where we are told that the level of organ donations must increase dramatically. Hawaii's Kilauea Mountains are spouted fountains of lava 300 feet into the air, luckily not threatening any residential areas as in the past. Let's look at the current statistics and we'll tell you the facts and 73, the temp, humidity at 76. Winds are south at 8. The barometer is steady. Next high tide is 743. Should be an AM there tomorrow morning and low at 238 this morning. Sunrise 524 and sunset at 827. Well, there's quite a band of showers. We looked at them a little bit earlier. They were out in the West Virginia and Maryland Panhandle. They did have some severe thunderstorm warnings up in there. since that time since six thirty seven o 'clock tonight they have been moving in the southeasterly direction in about thirty miles an hour you see the extent from harrisburg all the way down the roanoke take a little closer look at it you can see right now that the showers are still in baltimore county over in harford county down in pg county and anarondale county and a lot of the southern areas moving in this direction you folks up in carroll and uh... frederick counties probably don't have much in the way of rain right now and it doesn't look like really like anything is going to be following along. But AccuWeather is telling us the shower activity, or at least a chance of showers, will hang around until about 1 o 'clock in the morning, depending upon where you live. Over in the eastern shore, you'll be getting them during the course of the evening. Okay, let's look at the map around the state right now, give me an indication of just where the temperatures have been going for the past couple of hours. It's currently 75 degrees at Ocean City, and they are going to get some showers there probably tomorrow afternoon. Maybe by the time you folks out there are on your way home, should be not a bad day for the beach. 72 in Salisbury winds predominantly from the southwest at about 10 to 15. Tomorrow they'll be switching around this way for all of you will be out in the bay doing boating. 76, the current rating on Norfolk, it's 78 in Washington, and 76 up in Martinsburg having a good rainstorm up there. Here's the way the satellite looks and. This cloud cover right here is due to the warm air that's pushing up. It's the same frontal system that came through the other day, pushed down, cool air. Now the warm is going back up. It's overriding the cool and causing all of this cloud activity. Some very heavy storms though back toward the Midwest. Earlier Rick Dempsey doubled, was balked a third, and then scored on a wild pitch as the A's wound up losing the first time in this series against the Orioles. The A's scored in the bottom half of the ninth inning, but it was a little bit too late as Storm Davis pitched an eight -hitter in winning his ninth game. Davis now nine wins and four losses. He's been the Orioles' most consistent pitcher since the injury to Mike Flanagan back in May. The Atlanta Braves became the first team in baseball to win 60 games this year by beating the Fills 6 to 5 in 100 degree heat in Atlanta. Steve Carlton started for the Phillies and gained one strike out in six innings worth of work and he still leads Nolan Ryan by three. Now it was Mike Schmidt who was the hero and later the goat in this game. Steve Bedrosian pitched to Mike Schmidt his turn into a three run homer to tie the game up at five. Schmidt now has 21 home runs as he put that one past the screen there. But in the ninth inning with Jerry Royster bunning the ball, Mike Schmidt promptly throws it into center field to put runners at second and third as Rafael Ramirez winds up going. All the way down to third base after Dale Murphy was walked intentionally. Bob Watson drew a bases on balls to force home the winning run for the Braves in their six to five win. At Wrigley Field in Chicago, Terry Kennedy, the Padres catcher hits a fly ball deep to left center, lands above the vines at Wrigley Kennedy's seventh home run in San Diego leads at one to nothing. Padres added another run on Gary Templin's drive to right center off of Dickie Knowles. Six to Lescano, who had walked, comes all the way around the score. San Diego two nothing after three and a half. Dickie nose didn't last to the seventh because of Louis Salazar's drive, which hits the vines just above Keith Morland's glove. Nice try. Keith Salazar winds up with a triple. Padres win it 4 -2. Here's a look now at the baseball scoreboard. Orioles win 7 -3. Toronto leads Texas 3 -2 in the seventh inning. New York winning over Kansas City 5 -1. Ryan Gidry a five -hitter for win number 12. Detroit is shutting out California 2 -0 in the fourth inning of play. Colts had a controlled scrimmage at the stadium against the Redskins rookies and free agents. The Colts lost 26 to 23. Each team had six offensive series of 12 plays each. The field was only 60 yards long, went from second base to center field. The offensive line played well with newcomers Jim Mills and Chris Hinton shining. Jim Bob Taylor looked good at quarterback also as we pick up some action on the second series of plays for the Colts. Taylor was the Colts' only quarterback that was used all day, completed 14 of 28 for 171 yards. Phil Smith caught four of those passes for 62. Smith certainly was impressive wearing number six today, catching two passes in this series shown right here. Prince McCord carried the ball five times for 38 yards, nearly tackled by Kevin Kelling, but he ran away from him for a nice game. McCord scored one of the two Colt touchdowns on the day. You're gonna see that right here as he bounces into the end zone for six. Jamie Giles bidding to back up Leo Wisniewski as the nose tackle dominated the defensive line, once nailing the skins quarterback Bob Holley. Colts also made a nice goal line stand. It was probably the defensive highlight of the game. Greg Porter kicked a long field goal for the Colts in excess of 40 yards. He'll challenge Dan Miller throughout camp. and bob holly the redskin one of three quarterbacks used the only touchdown pass of the entire scrimmage a thirty five yard array arnold put washington on top seventeen to fourteen john borso forty one yard field goal for the redskins jeff thomas and shot up sixty six and he has the lead after three rounds of the greater baltimore open at hill and dale earlier today it was bob charles who shot a seventy two he's way back though trailing by fourteen strokes Tomorrow's final round will be played at Hillendale, simply a beautiful course to play on. Kermit Zarely, by the way, shot a 65 today, and he trails by 7. He had one of the better rounds of the day. Thomas Leeds, Russ Cochran, and Frank Connor by a stroke as we check the leaderboard. Cochran and Connor, or Connor that is, are minus 3. George Archer, minus 2. Bob Tway, Joey Sindelar, and Terry Snydgrass, also in the running, along with Paul Oglesby and Mark Wibbie.
