So how did Jeffrey Levitt, one of those officers of Progressive, end up running Old Court? Well, Progressive was having financial problems, and so was Old Court Savings and Loan. Missick, which was supposed to have been an industry watchdog, recommended a merger. And despite examiner's warnings, Thanks for watching! Missick apparently didn't much care who came out on top. The Preston documents chart Levitt's rise with a $500 ,000 loan he drew from Progressive, using as collateral 250 acres of property in Prince George's County he said he owned. Exhibits then show Levitt obtained a second loan on the same piece of property for $1 .7 million, money Levitt used to buy a controlling interest in the Old Court merger. Levitt claimed his property was worth over $5 million. But Preston exhibits showed Levitt never owned the land when he took out the loans, but bought it a few months later for just over $600 ,000. Then, just last week, lotto fever hit. I mean, big deal. Your chances of winning the Potter are about the same as being discovered by Hollywood, yet we still bet and bet big. And now, all this nonsense over a football game. I mean, come on. For a couple of hours this Sunday, a bunch of big guys will chase a ball back and forth across the field. And we'll sit there and watch them, hoping one team will get massacred so we can win some money. It's ridiculous. I mean, we've even come up with ways to bet where it doesn't matter who wins. At least here at University Hospital, I figured the staff of professionals would be immune to all this Super Bowl wagering. But it just ain't so. Even in the radiology department, there's a Super Bowl pool. Actually, two of them, each worth 200 bucks and all the money held by Mike Walter. How much money are you holding right now? $400 and how do we know you're not going to run away with it? I won't have a job if I come back and I don't have the money.
