I looked out the window and saw the lady running. She was carrying a child that looked 4 or 5 years old. I heard a car pull off very quickly at great speed. Police think three suspects killed those men. Detectives are still searching for the killers. Baltimore is famous for its annual community festivals. Local neighborhoods celebrate another year of health and success. But there is a West Baltimore area that hasn't had much to celebrate for years. But they are holding a festival anyway to help make a dismal stretch of Pennsylvania Avenue thrive again. Going a record. Hello. Come on. People falling in the dunk tank symbolizes what's happened in this neighborhood for years. The carnival is just a few yards from the blocks of blight and vacant boarded homes. Investors won't touch this crime infested stretch of Pennsylvania Avenue anymore. Today, three dozen Maryland men returned home after helping fight raging forest fires in Idaho. Those volunteers told Suzanne Collins that their job was tough and frightening as they slept in the wilderness while the flames crept closer. Nearly a million and a half acres of forest in the west are gone after lightning ignited thousands of wildfires. It's a yearly occurrence in the West, and this year, Idaho was hardest hit. It's real difficult physically because you're in real steep terrain. And the elevations, we were at like 7000ft and we're not used to that. You know, being from Maryland. 37 Maryland forest rangers and volunteer firemen arrived after ten days in Idaho. For some, it was the first time fighting fires in the West. We're out on the fire line. I figured on an average of 13 hours to 14 hours a day. The mornings are quite chilly. The afternoons are hot, dry. Lot of smoke. It's a lot of physical mental endurance to stop the fire in its tracks. The men cut a path through the forest about 15 to 30ft wide. That would leave little for the fire to feed on. Once the fire was contained, water and dirt were brought in to put it out entirely. When the men weren't fighting fires, they got to know each other. Maryland was rated real high for morale out there. We have a lot of joke tellers. A lot of people have been out before to sort of ease some of the pressures out there. Made a lot of fun. And this little fan couldn't make it all the way through. The twin Bill Orioles led a 2 to 1 in the fifth. Phil Bradley, who had only hit safely three times in his last 29 trips to the plate, broke out of his slump by pounding this Mike Smithson offering over the fence and right for his eighth home run of the year that made it 3 to 1. Orioles Pete Heinisch was helped out by a couple of sparkling defensive plays. Watch Craig rather than nice pic of a grounder off the bat of Nikiski. The strong throw to first gets him by a couple of steps. Then the dangerous Wade Boggs tries to shoot one up the middle. But Cal Ripken is there to spirit the 360 turn gets Boggs at first. But the pushers fought back Last Tuesday morning, while Maria Hernandez was getting ready for work, a gunman fired at least five bullets into her apartment and killed her.
