Governor Schaefer has signed an agreement with the governors of Virginia and Delaware to work together against illegal drug trade. Virginia is known as the gun running capital of the country, and Governor Schaefer says it's too easy for people to get guns in neighboring states and bring them into Maryland. James Jordan was shot to death in a highway robbery after pulling his car off this road to rest. Authorities tracked the suspects through calls made on Jordan's car phone. A memorial service was held for James Jordan today in his hometown of Teachey, North Carolina. And a special panel's finding that Berger moved dozens of his top administrators without any regard to their professional performance evaluations. This kind of education controversy hasn't been seen around here since Roland Patterson was redoing the city schools, an effort from which the city never has recovered. He seems a man bent on doing things his own way and unwilling to tolerate open debate, either from the community or from inside the system. The latest findings reopen that can of worms. Did Berger take those dozens of principals and assistants and shuffle them around because of good cause or just because they challenged him? Baltimore County still has a pretty good school system. This kind of education controversy hasn't been seen around here since Roland Patterson was redoing the city schools, an effort from which the city never has recovered. He seems a man bent on doing things his own way and unwilling to tolerate open debate, either from the community or from inside the system. The latest findings reopen that can of worms.
