They didn't call till this morning, but they began to grow suspicious several days ago. This incredible stench. Friday night when I came in, getting ready to go to work that night and I smelled it and the rest of it when I came in, what Gilbert Dargon didn't know was that the smell was coming from apartment six on the third floor, the home of a young woman. Cornell Bell, who lives on the second floor, knew her, only to say hello. Her boyfriend lived there with her. And as anybody seen him today or yesterday, actually, no one's seen either of them since the week before Labor Day. Cornell Bell says he also noticed a bad smell this weekend and then realized something was very wrong. I came home, said, hey, my girlfriend and I went to use the bathroom and I looked on the floor and it was like six magnets on the floor. And I looked up to the ceiling, you know, to see where they were coming from. And I saw that in the dome of the light there were like it was like full of maggots. Robert Sanders, seven year old daughter was killed after her airbag deployed in a minor accident. As Lee Cowan reports, today, Sanders was in Washington to see a new rule unveiled to make air bags safer. They take it on the chin and the hand beside the gut, all to make our cars a little safer place to be. But as much as crash dummies have done, the government wants them to do more. For one simple reason to maximize the benefits of air bags and minimize their risk. In short, to help automakers give airbags a brain. Although they've saved thousands of lives, airbags have also killed more than a hundred since 1990. Most of the victims were smaller and lighter than the typical crash test dummy. So the government is proposing giving dummies a family representing everyone from an infant to an adult. The Cleavers, in a sense, and the crash dummy neighborhood enhanced dummy criteria. There would be more of them and include testing of dummies in places where they aren't supposed to be like children who were seated too close to the dashboard instead of in the back seat. All of this is meant to raise the bar for automakers, some of whom have already invested heavily in new airbag technology. And if some of these certification guidelines are approved, it could save as many as 400 lives a year, even as a lot of dummies go back to work. We call on CBS News Washington. If the sight of a cat makes you sneeze, relief may be on the way. Healthwatch reporter Kelly Lin says the researchers have developed a cat vaccine for humans, for human beings. This is the work of British researcher Sally. In tonight's Healthwatch, cats are gaining in popularity. The latest figures show that more than 1 in 3 households have a cat. But often at least one family member is allergic to their feline friend. Now, Dr. Deena Dal reports a new vaccine is making cats a whole lot easier to live with. Hard to believe such a cute, fluffy creature can be the cause of so much misery. But for some reason, lots of people who love cats are allergic to them. We know the cause is cat dander and saliva, which has a protein to which you are allergic. For 1 in 10 of us, the result can be misery. Allergy shots can sometimes help, but they must be repeated and don't always work. Otherwise, the best solution for the brave of heart is to try to wash their kidneys regularly, to cut down on their dander level. Since most cats hate water and are nowhere near as patient to this guy, regular washing can be an endurance test for everyone concerned. Well, if you're absolutely committed to buying cat food for the rest of the cast life, if not, your life relief could be on hand because British researchers have just completed a small but successful trial of a cat vaccine.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136483/file/253066#t=2182.16,2294.89"},{"id":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136483/file/253066/transcript/71193/annotation/23","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"It's a vaccine for you to prevent cat allergy. But it may take a while to get one to market. In the meantime, grab a bottle of kiddy shampoo and go for it. I'm Dr. DiNardo, and Dr. Dean says that this vaccine worked so well that several subjects had a party filled with cats and no body got the sniffles. And the road to heaven is narrow and very few people find it. And which road do you think Bill Clinton's on is on the wide road? It's a fair assessment that President Clinton is already in a political hell of sorts. USA Today is flat out calling for him to resign. He did not mention the threat of a sex scandal on his presidency. Highly unlikely that President Clinton would be impeached. Now, everything depends, I think, on the public reaction. In other words, I think the action in the Congress will be driven by public opinion. And the question of whether Clinton should resign was especially hard to get folks to respond to. Apparently a lot of people just don't want to talk about it. No. Know morally. And yes, I think he should resign. Resign? Right. How about that? Well, anybody would say hi to Fred. Say hi to your lawyer. What's his name? Hi, Howard. Howard. Howard, the lawyer. Okay. All right. What do we got? Let's hit a homerun race. It is officially now a race again, boys and girls. Sammy Sosa pulling even with Mark McGuire as those two enter the stretch run of the regular season. Sosa ringing up the Brewers for two of them at Wrigley Field. Bill Murray was there That made it official. Bottom of the fifth inning. Here's Sosa. He's got a man on. He's going deep to left field. Go on, get out of here. Hit it. 480ft over the fence. Out onto the street. The guy who got the ball, incidentally, did not give it back. He's selling it. Go to the bottom of the ninth inning now. Sosa up there again. This time he's got nobody on here. That's number 62 on the year for Sammy Sosa. Another 480 footer. Another one on the street. Another guy is looking to make some money. The Cubs win it in ten innings to stay on top in the National League wild card race. Sosa now matching McGuire. Word for word as they continue to rewrite the baseball record book. It's been unbelievable. I know it's been you hoping to you over the in so long but I was there.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136483/file/253066#t=5968.01,6058.82"},{"id":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136483/file/253066/transcript/71193/annotation/58","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"I wish I wish you can be there with me today. McGuire The Cardinals will be on their home field against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Everybody want let's just get all the waves out of the way. Give you a big wide shot, Mark, everybody. Okay. Now, as we said, got the Rangers first of two games tonight. Set the throw. Right hander one Guzman. He went five innings for the win last week in Oakland. Guzman to be opposed this evening by Rangers right hander Aaron Seeley, who picked up his 18th win of the season last week. Seven innings still against the royals, Guzman against Sealey. Those in the Rangers remember 705 first pitch down here at the old ball yard. And also we got a time change for Saturday's game. Those are the Yankees here at Camden Yards, originally scheduled for 705, is now a 115 game. That is this Saturday, September the 19th. They moved it for TV, which is why stuff gets moved any more these days. Yeah, hang on a second. I lost my voice. How are we doing? Are. We're doing okay? Serious. I lost my place. But what do you do if you get stopped even though you didn't do anything? One woman decided to get government. It was the sale that brought this shopper into the store. The prices were supposed to be the lowest of the year, so she arrived just as the doors open. But they didn't have what she needed. So 15 minutes later, she was out the door. As soon as she crossed the threshold of the store, someone tapped her on the shoulder and accused her of shoplifting. It was the store's security officer who said that she had been observed putting merchandise in her coat pocket. She wrote to us saying at first I was in shock, but then I became furious. Can I sue them for falsely accusing me of being a thief? Well, in this case, probably not. Even if the shopper was entirely innocent of any wrongdoing, first, no one heard the accusations. So the security officer statement isn't defamation, which requires some form of publication to a third party. Also, this shopper refused the officers request to accompany her back into the store, and he didn't force the issue but allowed her to leave. If she had been taken back into the store by force or even under threat of force, well, that would have been a different story. That could have been false imprisonment. And juries generally don't like that kind of conduct since they realize it could just as easily happen to them. Of course, that assumes that the shopper here was innocent, because if she had gone back into the store and did have shoplifted property in her possession, then she'd be the defendant, not the store.
