Just ask Trevor. I would play sports and afterwards my heels and knees were really bothering me and it only lasts for an hour or two. But they really, really hurt a lot. So Trevor came to Union Memorial Hospital sports clinic for help. His growing pains stemmed from a gap in his bones, his growth plates and his ankle. All of us as kids have these gaps in the bones. But when I reached the age of 18, I stopped. And these are all one case about the age of 50. That's how we grow. But while there are still gaps, the muscles and tendons can pull too much one way or the other causing pain. In Trevor's case, it's in the ankle and it's called Sievers. A similar problem in the knee is called Osgood Schlatter. Trevor is supposed to have a nice straight Achilles tendon like this, right? Right down the middle. And if you look closely, he doesn't. He turns in. And so Trevor has a neck Achilles tendon like this. So it pulls on the heel here abnormally. This causes inflammation and pain. In his case, he's turning out. When he runs, he's landing on the outside of his foot. To correct this, Trevor wears an insert in his shoe. It changes the angle of impact and also elevates the heel so that it takes some of the pressure of the Achilles tendon off of this point on his heel.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136099/file/253253#t=2754.41,2864.37"},{"id":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136099/file/253253/transcript/71369/annotation/27","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"They put your pads in there about a half, maybe a quarter of an inch thick, and it elevates my heel more and it's surprisingly enough, straightened out my right foot. You know, I have three tubes of DNA here. You remember learning about DNA. It's in every cell of our bodies. For instance, it carries the hereditary material that gives this young lady her blond hair and blue eyes while this one has brown hair and brown eyes. In order to find a cure for cancer, researchers are trying to discover what goes wrong and why. And a teacher from St Paul's School for Girls has been chosen as one of ten teachers throughout the country to conduct some of that research at Johns Hopkins Oncology Center. The purpose of the research is to identify specific differences between cancer cells and non cancer cells that we can then exploit when we use drugs to find a cure for it. Becoming involved in research projects like this is something that many teachers like Zelin look forward to. There is my DNA right there. Because it gives them a practical application for what they teach their students in class. It also shows students that what they are learning can be put to use to make a difference in the world in which we live. This is a field that I might want to go into molecular biology I'm really interested in. Part of the reason why I'm taking this course DNA is something that's kind of mysterious for me, and I think my teacher researching this, it would help me understand it more. And next week we'll take a look at another aspect of teaching as part of our ongoing Thanks to teachers campaign. Well, we're getting lots of letters from students telling us what they like about their teachers. In fact, we heard from Miss Bliss's entire second grade class at Margaret Brant Elementary School, including one from Joshua White. He writes this about teachers. He says that they give children breaks if they are nice teachers. And we've heard from a kindergartner, believe it or not. His name is Eric Spacek. He says that Mrs. Marsh is nice for taking us out to play and teaching us a whole bunch.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136099/file/253253#t=2964.72,3065.37"},{"id":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136099/file/253253/transcript/71369/annotation/29","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"Well, students, if you'd like to send us a letter on what you think makes a good teacher. It's been replacing a lot of paper products, as you know, at the expense of the environment. So every year, Americans produce enough Styrofoam cups to circle the earth more than 400 times. South of D.C., they're moving to the east. And I don't think they're really going to do too much of the Baltimore area at all. I've got the ball game tonight. Probably remain dry. There are a few very light sprinkles and that's probably all we're going to see tonight, later tomorrow and during the day tomorrow, a good chance of some showers. Let's take a look at temperatures around the region, kind of mild 50s and low to mid 60s or high with 68 a low this morning or 49. That's warmer than normal for this time of year. Now you see this area of high pressure with some cool temperatures that's going to head to the east. Not going to bother us at all. What we're looking at is area of high pressure that's building out west tomorrow, as forecast map shows, areas of high pressure that are going to be moving in after this whole system moves through the region and for us into next week as high pressure anchors itself off the Atlantic coast, our winds to start coming out on the southwest and the west. And that means warmer air. And we could be looking at temperatures near 80 degrees by next Wednesday. Isn't it wonderful? Take a look at the clouds. We have some close to the morning hours and some sunshine came in through the region. Some big blowups of clouds out to our west. As you can see, thunderstorms developing out there, clear skies that are the far west. Here we have just partial cloudiness, some clouds coming in. The next few hours will cause a chance of a couple of showers. You see early this morning some sunshine, some clouds and some breaks in the cloud cover through the region. In 1608, Captain John Smith charted these waters by the moon, and stars had always had his sword close at hand for Indian threats. The people of these rivers are very little statue. If you ask everyone where Cooper's what's in Cooperstown, New York, they all raise their hands and say the Baseball Hall of Fame. There is still life in these waters, but certainly not as much as Captain John Smith talked about back in 1608. In fact, even the Skipjack were riding on the Stanley. Norman is a dying breed. The upkeep is high on boats and stuff's not getting cheaper. And people have a tendency to do what they can. And sometimes that's not quite enough to keep them up. David McCoy is one of the last boat builders still repairing the skiff. Jackson Russell dies as one of the last of their captains. We had our heads and spot fish and they disappeared and shed stopped coming up the bay. Herring stopped coming in to bay, and then they ran Rockfish. I can guarantee you that as the Terps new starting quarterback Solak will have the best chance at delivering that guarantee. And if he stands tall at six five 224 pounds, what commands attention? There's an extremely strong throwing arm. I think he can he can play for anybody. I don't care where it is in the country. And I believe he can go on the National Football League and play. That's how strong I feel about his ability. Solak is a product of Ringgold High School in Monongahela, Pennsylvania, a small town located near Pittsburgh and a Monongalia has a familiar ring. It is the same town where another quarterback grew up, a fellow by the name of Joe Montana. And like the three time Super Bowl winner, Zola aspires to join Montana someday. And. The NFL. You know, every guy who plays football a dream has been since he's a little kid to be in a professional football league. And that is one of my goals right now. And I'm working very hard to achieve that. But first, there's a matter of producing a winner in College Park. For the first time in over five years, something Solak has already guaranteed. I like to be put in a position where I'm under pressure and I feel the pressure makes me do really well. Paul Sherry, eyewitness, Sports. All right. It's Earth Week. And on Saturday, some 30,000 Marylanders will volunteer to give a day for the bay. Marylanders from every county in the state. Most of them won't be going anywhere near the bay in order to do their part. They don't have to. If ever a place in Maryland needed an S.O.S.. It's the wetlands of Fort McHenry. Myself and another ranger came on out here on Middle in the middle of the week and found 40 needles. The actual grounds of the fort meticulously kept at the tower. Plans have already been made for Sun Earth Day Sunrise service, which is 200 yards away in the marsh, there's a grim reminder of what the Earth has become.
