We don't know if those burns were caused by the explosion or the fire, nor are we certain of the number of children who have been injured. Howard County emergency crews are on the scene at the Venus Garden Apartments. Eyewitness news crews also are on their way. And we hope to have an update for you as soon as possible. Another top story tonight, the heat. If you've been out at all today, we don't need to tell you how hot it has been. Stands hundreds has been out with thermometer in hand today. And he joins us live now from Clarksville with more on that Stan. Let me tell you this. Today's first of all, Baltimore Gas Electric is sending out a special request to all of you, its good customers. We'll tell you more about that momentarily. Meantime, here in Coffeyville at Snow Aces. Yeah, where they got great snowballs. Everybody here, like the rest of us around Baltimore are trying to deal with this great wall of fire in the sky. Rising temperatures caused quite a degree of difficulty for quite a few folks today, but others say I'll take the heat any day. I see you dressed cool, but you still have on a bullet proof vest. Yes. You bought a uniform? I'd rather be hot than a shot. Bob Thompson could not have picked a better day to sell sunglasses outside of his takeout restaurant. I'm a summertime person. Meaning what? I'd rather have 100 degrees than cold. Talk to almost any Baltimoreans who's been here most of their lives, and they'll be the first to tell you, Oh, yeah, we get a lot of changes of season here. But it seems as though they're always three of them instead of the natural four. That's pretty much the way it's been the last few years. No spring it all just go from winter to summer. Farmers in central Maryland and western Maryland are happy because all of this dries up soggy fields. In fact, in Frederick County, where corn is usually planted at about a 90% percentile by now. Imagine hearing a humming sound all the time, a sound you can't turn off or get away from. Healthwatch reporter Kelly Lamb says millions of people have this problem, including Mayor Schmoke. He sure does. This is a condition called tinnitus Vic and tonight's Healthwatch. For years, patients with tinnitus were forced to live with the annoying humming sound. But now devices that look like hearing aids are finally giving them a little peace and quiet. Harry Merrick first noticed a humming sound while driving his car. I was driving my car home from work one day and I thought I needed some brakes on my car because it was squealing very fine. Very loud types squeal in my ear. When I got out of the car, I went into the house. The noise was still there. It wouldn't go away because it was tinnitus. A condition that causes ringing in the ear. Tinnitus occurs as a result of the hearing loss and the effects of the hearing loss on the ear. And the result of that is that the brain starts to detect some false signals from the inner ear, and that constant detection of those signals as a noise tends to magnify it. But now patients can do something about it with the help of a broadband white noise generator. The device actually gives off a humming sound. And what it does is to retrain the brain so that the brain no longer responds to that abnormal signal.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/115825/file/219693#t=1828.57,1944.47"},{"id":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/115825/file/219693/transcript/62489/annotation/19","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"Patients where two of the devices for 6 to 8 hours a day and for up to two years, eventually the ear gets used to the sound and it's no longer bothersome. But in the case of a local health spa bankruptcy, it was actually good news. As a Baltimore woman learned after she decided to get hurt here, this situation is unusual because it actually helped her get more than she otherwise would. She she would have been out otherwise. The usual complaint we often hear is that the bankrupt business or individual simply walks away from the debts and says, I'll be lucky to get $0.10 on the dollar. Well, that's often true unless you know about things called preferences. Assuming you use the equipment, $40 a month is not a lot to pay for a health spa membership. McCutchen contract was with Spa Lady in Tucson. Another business has already taken over the old location. The spa is in bankruptcy, which is particularly upsetting to McCutchen because that action came shortly after this call from Spa lady. She says, Hi, this is so and so from Spa Lady. Just wanted to let you know that today we're having a special you get if you paid off, you get $300 off plus a plus another your membership. What do you think? In the end, the deal was $500 for a three year membership, a savings of about $500 over her original contract. So she prepaid and a few days later, Spa Lady of Towson was heading into bankruptcy. Although most unsecured creditors in a bankruptcy get very little, it will be different for McCutchen, although she didn't realize that she has what is known as a preference because she prepaid for certain things she did not receive. That preference means that she'll get her money before other creditors get theirs. In order to qualify for this kind of preference, it must involve money deposited before the bankruptcy was filed, involve a purchase for purely personal family or household use, and the maximum you'll recoup is $1,800. But McCutchen has a second option to fall back upon the bonds. Bar lady had to post covering possible defaults just like this one. It will take a year to pay off, but at least it's there. There's light and dark, high and low. In fact, those two even intersect. And did you know you can go north on east or east On west? Here's a street that causes confusion among newcomers who've heard of England's River Thames. I say them same, same name. Strange Street. Let's ask the expert, the man from Upstream. That's what I say. Okay. Settled. This was the only street we found named for a famous classical composer. But one famous writer is represented too. Is it coincidence that we found this poster nearby? We found one street in Baltimore where apparently it's unacceptable to speak in a loud tone of voice. Here we are at Whispering Court. And yes, it is very quiet here. There's something for everyone, even a little history. In old cities, there's a market street. And all of them only have minor burns on their arms, legs and faces. The injured flew to Baltimore and rolled in aboard ambulances. These are two of the girls. Their skin burned from the blast.
