Officially here on TV Hill, cloud and sun. When are you warm? When I say a small chance for shower. I mean, don't even get the umbrella at a high of 72 degrees this day. Tonight, cool front starts to cut into the region. Big time, partly cloudy. Breezy. We'll still stay mild with that overnight low of 50 degrees. And we're saying mild because that's going to be our daytime high on Friday. Tomorrow cool air moves into the region. Take the temperatures down by ten. A high of 62. An overnight low of 30 for the duration. Once again, Arctic air is going to start to actually move into the region for the first time this year. Once again, 72 today, 62 tomorrow, 50 degrees on Friday. Ron. Thanks, Marty. 701 now the latest on traffic with Chuck Whittaker in the traffic team. Good morning Chuck all around. In the news this morning, a warning for parents, teachers and students in Howard County after a man enters a school and approaches a young girl. It happened at Saint John's Elementary in Elegant City. Mike Schuh reports the student was on her way to After-School cheerleading practice when the stranger walked up to her. Nearly everyone associated with the Saint John's Elementary School in Ellicott City and heard the disturbing news. They didn't quite tell me, but I just heard from the other kids. Well, they're talking about this man that approached a girl yesterday, and they sent out letters to the parents telling them not to let their kids walk up to a stranger and talk to them. Just as a fourth grader tells it, the school sent out this report from the police. Little girl was walking down a hallway to go to cheerleading practice. Suspect came up behind her, placed his hand on her shoulder, said, I'm here to pick you up for your mom. She turned and she turned. He placed his hand on her buttocks. Said, come on, we're going to go home. Have some fun. The victim of this incident waited to tell her mother till last night. Mom then told police early today. The man's description is pretty vague. White male, 3255, nine of six foot, wearing dark casual clothing, and medium medium features. Like most schools, the doors are unlocked. A discount asking you to sign in at the office is the only impediment to roaming the halls. Now that the students and the parents have been notified and leave some of them with a very important unanswered question how to prevent this from happening again, I'm hoping maybe they can, maybe lock the doors from the outside, but inside, the children would be able to push through the doors to come out.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136443/file/253035#t=96.59,201.62"},{"id":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136443/file/253035/transcript/71256/annotation/3","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"We hope the the address it, pretty quick and, don't have any recurrences of the problem. It was the first public appearance by John Huang, the Democratic fundraiser who is under scrutiny for collecting hundreds of thousands of dollars in campaign contributions from questionable sources. Huang had been in hiding until forced to testify in a civil lawsuit Tuesday. He said he wasn't ducking investigators, just reporters. Personally, I had no intention to run away with any issues that we had to confront with the issue. This issue will not go away by staying away from it. Huang has raised nearly $5 million for Mr. Clinton and the Democrats. He has close ties to the Lippo Bank of Indonesia, headed by Mokhtar Royalty, whose family has contributed generously to the president. Quite a few times I met with the Clintons, both many times with the realities present on any of those occasions. Objection is to relevance, and I join the objection. Yes. Other than confirming his own ties to the Clintons, Huang shed little light on his own fundraising practices, including questions about whether he sought illegal contributions from foreigners. Republicans charged Democrats were trying to cover up illegal contributions by initially refusing to disclose an official list of their last minute contributors. This is about openly, blatantly, flagrantly violating the law. Democrats did release the list of contributions last night, insisting each will stand up to the light of day. Meanwhile, John Huang is expected to continue testifying about his own activities today. Democrats charged questions about John Huang's fundraising are being blown out of proportion. On Mr. Clinton's final campaign lap yesterday in Pennsylvania and Ohio. It's all going according to plan most of the time. A group of Dole Kemp supporters at Ohio State did manage to get the president off his script, but he never stopped smiling as he indulged himself in a prediction. I'll bet you they won't be doing that a week from today. The heckling continued, prompting Mr. Clinton to a rare attack on his opponent by name, Senator Dole, and the fight against the family leave law. That's why they're screaming now. And they're wrong. So you tell me. Do you agree with the screamers? Now, most of the time out of the trail, the president does get to talk about his agenda for the next four years and what he wants to do, and it's not much of a problem. He is concerned enough, however, about the campaign finance accusations that he's going to make a speech about it tomorrow or Friday out west. You know, the home video game industry has been in a slump the past few years. You know, right now, as you say, that's changing with the recent release of a product that the kids are calling 64 year old. The battle among home video games just got hotter. Following last month's U.S. release of the highly anticipated Nintendo 64 gaming system, the event broke all records as 300,000 units were sold in the first weekend of availability, and in Japan, 1 million systems have vanished from store shelves since its introduction there late this past summer.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136443/file/253035#t=1542.5,1694.13"},{"id":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136443/file/253035/transcript/71256/annotation/17","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"Nintendo gaming specialist Greg Evans says all of this excitement is due to one overwhelming feature. This is the first gaming that we have done. That really has been in a 360 degree environment, total 3D. But as far as, where you can go and what you can do, this is pretty unlimited. It's all due to the system's 64 bit microprocessor, a huge improvement over our previous 16 and 32 bit versions that limit player flexibility on a Super Nintendo Entertainment System. To run, you either had you were running or you weren't. In this you have different degrees of, movement. If I push you just a little bit, he tiptoes. So if I push a little more, he walks a little more. He jobs and all the way he goes. In your full run, Nintendo 64 is decision to use game cartridges over CD-ROMs like competitors. Sega and Sony was a gamble for the gaming giant. The reason for sticking with the limited storage capacity and high price of cartridges can be described in two words speed enhancement. I'll give you an example I. I walk through the store and although it's just into a different room, the door opens. Mario walks through on there. Many consider the unit's $200 price tag a steal for the level of play it delivers. On the other hand, others see it as a reason to steal. Oh, I'd say we probably lost the good 20 units. The we ended up having to have a guard stand there from the time we open the store we were closed. Although overall video game sales have dropped from a high of 5,000,000,000 in 1993 to about 3 billion last year, the convergence of Nintendo 64 with the coming Christmas season could boost that set, especially if the company makes good on its promise to release more games than the two currently available.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136443/file/253035#t=1694.85,1796.67"},{"id":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136443/file/253035/transcript/71256/annotation/18","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"Of course, all things considered, there's only a couple of reasons why this could be the best home gaming system ever is found, and I like to try it in Hollywood. Good morning Jane. Well, with less than a week to go, Bob Dole's travel schedule is changing almost as quickly as his campaign themes. Yesterday, aides had said Mr. Dole would talk about illegal immigration, but at a hastily prepared California event, it was all about the economy. In the last few days, the American people will understand that voting for Bob Dole is a tax cut. Despite frantic behavior behind the scenes, Bob Dole was in complete control, delivering a calm recitation of the points in his economic plan, including his idea to cut taxes 15%. He criticized President Clinton's plan for targeted tax cuts and poked fun at the administration's idea of child tax credits. And you've got to go to college. You got to get a B average. You got to keep your room clean. Yeah, I don't know who. Maybe Craig Livingstone will be the room cleaner. In Colorado. The stage was set for Dole to announce his support of a state ballot measure giving parents more control over their children's education. Borrowing a page from his California playbook. Dole attached himself to amendment 17 with a ringing endorsement. We don't need a village full of social workers and bureaucrats to raise a child. We need parents. Now, aides say that Elizabeth Dole will be traveling with her husband between now and the election, calling her addition to the campaign a compelling dynamic. Today, they traveled together to Tennessee, Louisiana and then to Florida. And although aides are reluctant to predict what Mr. Dole will talk about, they tell me they expect him to talk again today about the economy. Jane. Sandra Hughes in Washington. Thank you. In this morning's medical report, a new study that finally reveals which is the weaker sex and a new test that will have ulcer patients breathing a little easier. Doctor Howard Taubman fills us in from San Francisco. Good morning. Good morning Jose. You know, of course, there are a variety of substantial physical differences between men and women, but a new study finds one that's not so obvious that at least when it comes to pain, men are the weaker sex. Researchers at the University of California, San Francisco, find that women not only feel pain differently than men, they respond to treatment in a different way. They compared how men and women reacted when given two different analgesics, known as kappa opioids, while having a wisdom tooth pulled. The women got greater pain relief than the men, even though the women reported higher levels of pain initially. Researchers say this is more evidence that clinical studies need to be designed with women in mind. Why do you think it's called Value city furniture? It seems like bubble bath is the perfect way to entice your child into his or her nightly bath, but all those soap suds may be doing more harm than good. Kelly Lynn explains in this morning's Medical minute good morning. Bubble bath is fun for kids and adults, but many parents don't realize that sitting in soapy set can create a real problem for children. Number one, the soapy sets can irritate a girl's vaginal area, and that irritation could lead to a vaginal or a bladder infection. Uncircumcised boys also risk infection from scented soap if it becomes trapped under the foreskin before it retracts. Experts recommend that parents avoid putting children in bubble baths. The best approach is to put soap on a washcloth instead of in the tub, and then rinse the genitals and the rest of the body in clear water before drying off. I'm Kelly Lynn, and that's your medical minute. That's very good words there. Savannah had major problems. Bubble bath. Simpson civil trial. Testimony resumes tomorrow. But the story emerging in the courtroom so far differs from last year's criminal trial in small but telling waves. Bill Whitaker has very latest. Detective Ron Phillips was called to tell his story how he and his partner at the time, Mark Furman, were the first detectives at the murder scene. How Furman found that second bloody glove at Simpson's house. But it was a familiar story with a new spin. Phillips was one of a parade of officers, giving a steady drumbeat of similar testimony. Robert Risky, the first officer on the scene, said he is certain he saw only one bloody glove by the bodies and fresh, moist blood drops on the walkway and back gate. His partner Miguel to Ross's. There, Sergeant David Rossi, both saw the same thing at least 90 minutes before Mark Furman ever showed up. And Officer Donald Thompson said he saw what looked like smears of blood in Simpson's Bronco early the morning after the murders and a trail of blood leading straight to Simpson's front door.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136443/file/253035#t=2908.75,3011.11"},{"id":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136443/file/253035/transcript/71256/annotation/30","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"The plaintiffs attorneys seem to have learned some lessons from the first trial. A couple of showers over on the Eastern Shore. That is about it. A lot of that you saw on the eastern shore is not falling. And what is falling is very light, certainly pushing out of the area. Look at this big, big area of low pressure driving all this chilly air right down into the lower 48. Could you call it a cold blast? Yeah. Today, if it goes like 75 or 76 degrees in 48 hours, it's down to 50 if you count the nighttime hours Friday night into Saturday down below 30. Yeah. You could call this a first official cold blast of the season. It's going to be a sunny but very fall-like weekend here in the area. Look at this high 76 degrees. We're counting on sunshine to get us there. We revised all these temperatures over the last 15 to 20 minutes. Up just a couple of degrees. But I'm pretty confident now that these numbers are going to be correct. Once again, with the sunshine in the area area wide, mid 70s, it's going to be a nice, nice afternoon on the bay. Winds are really kicking up. Southerly winds 25 to small craft advisory in effect offshore southwesterly winds at 30 a small craft advisory in effect now the accu weather forecast at noon.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136443/file/253035#t=4301.73,4386.24"},{"id":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136443/file/253035/transcript/71256/annotation/43","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"Partly sunny windy. Now that the students and the parents have been notified and leave some of them with a very important unanswered question how to prevent this from happening again, I'm hoping maybe they can, maybe lock the doors from the outside, but inside, the children would be able to push through the doors to come out.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136443/file/253035#t=96.59,201.62"},{"id":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136443/file/253035/transcript/71303/annotation/54","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"We hope the the address it, pretty quick and, don't have any recurrences of the problem. And Officer Donald Thompson said he saw what looked like smears of blood in Simpson's Bronco early the morning after the murders and a trail of blood leading straight to Simpson's front door.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136443/file/253035#t=2908.75,3011.11"},{"id":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136443/file/253035/transcript/71303/annotation/81","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"The plaintiffs attorneys seem to have learned some lessons from the first trial. This is what a smart New Yorker wears to make sure folks let him squeeze by a snake and gold fangs, but it better be a Yankee snake. No, I got to say, the Yankees are the best in number one, baby. This crowd would cheer at anything, even us. Fans decorated their bellies. They painted their faces. They displayed temporary tattoos, not to mention permanent ones, or even sported Yankees on their fingernails. Symbolic, perhaps, of how the team clawed its way back in World Series. Floats ranged from a giant mitt to a giant uniform. The rockets weren't dancing, but the Yankees ground crew was. Song that won't go away. Just like the Yankees, there's no question which Yankee is most popular with the ladies. Derek Jeter. What is it about him? His eyes, the way he runs, the way he catches that he's the whole package of. The eyes part of this all package were hidden behind sunglasses, but the attention didn't seem to give Jeter the jitters. Up at City Hall, Placido Domingo singing Take Me Out to the Ballgame in Spanish. When you're one of the world's greatest tenors, you're allowed to change the words to refer to one of the Yankees come from behind victories. But at the end of six, I didn't see not. And then whoever said up Yankees eight, Braves six. And the crowd really got a kick out of bombarding reporters while they tried to report. New York Mets. And then, of course, it's no wonder we always carry those notepads and watch the New Yorker about to enter the left side of your screen.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136443/file/253035#t=5033.65,5145.27"},{"id":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/136443/file/253035/transcript/71303/annotation/101","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"Maybe you could use an instant replay. He slides into home Safe. Jimmy Mo, CNN. No. You know, you write a package about New York and a celebration after the crib keeper gives the Crypt Keeper tremendous credibility, doesn't it, though, when you went to those newspapers? Reminded me of when I was breaking my lawn this weekend. You know how you rake the leaves and stuff? You just want to dive in? I didn't have a big enough pile. I was a little sad about that. But I guarantee you, we can find your pile of junk. Can you? Out there. All right. As long as you jump with me. Oh, sure. With the kids. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. That was Barry and Jake the other day, and he was crying. How about he was jumping up and out? Oh, right. We had about about three feet of leaves, and all you heard was that you hit me. Well, you're breaking them in nicely. Thanks a lot for joining us. We do know that Dan Scott will be back with us tomorrow. I'm Kelly Lynn, I'm Marty Bass. Have a safe day.
