Go take a look at the price of lettuce. Well, I took a look, and I was astounded. $0.89 ahead, but that's not the half of it. Some stores are selling it for as much as $1.29 apiece. These high prices can be traced to a spell of bad weather in Texas and California, where the lettuce is grown. That weather also has affected other green vegetables, like broccoli, which is very expensive too. Over $1 a bunch. So look for substitutes. Cabbage is a good substitute for lettuce. And at $0.15 to $0,29 a pound, it's not a bad buy. Carrots also are reasonable at$ 0.25 to$ 0,49 a pound. So is asparagus, usually selling for under $1 a pound You also might want to take the time to compare the price of fresh vegetables to frozen and canned. With today's fresh vegetable situation, you'll find that in some cases, canned are the cheapest. Meat prices remain high, but you may find some specials on pork roast, and whole frying chickens are featured in some markets for 49 cents a pound, a very good buy. Don't forget to take advantage of fresh produce in season. One of the best dessert buys this week is fresh strawberries. There will be hundreds of gift ideas for mom from Mother's Day. Very nice poster, by the way, very colorful, very artistic. And in addition to that, something I should have used last night, Archbishop Keyhole High School presenting Sound of Music, the 5th, 6th, and 7th now. We missed the 4th. 8 o'clock in the evening. And they're urging the class of 69 to attend, because we're going to talk about this a little bit later on. Ten years ago they had the sound of music, now they have the new version. I guess you can hear me all right. Let's take a look at what's happening outside right now. It's been kind of drizzly and rainy most of the evening. Continues that same drizzling rainy picture right now with only 46 degrees. Our high today reached 55. Seven Celsius, humidity 84%. The winds northeast at 10. Perimeter 29.68, continues to fall. Satellite tonight will show you a lot of mess around the eastern United States. Heavy bands of clouds. All the way from the Atlanta coast westward throughout the Midwest and part of the Great Plains states. There's another storm out here causing snow with cold air, believe it or not. This one storm here over parts of eastern Alabama has now moved to pretty much over western Virginia, and another one off the coast right now, actually tonight, giving us the light rain activity. Early this evening it was over parts of western Virginia. It's now kind of moved eastward to parts of the eastern Virginia coast, and this will be the main storm by tomorrow afternoon. The storm out in parts of Kentucky, western Kentucky, will also kind of move east. And we'll have one pretty good storm right along the coast by tomorrow as it moves away from our region. And we will get rain activity overnight, maybe some thunderstorms thrown in. They're getting some thunderstorm to the lower eastern shore right now, Salisbury reporting some thunderstorm activity. And there were some pretty good storms over the southern part of the eastern shore during the last two to three hours. Some hail and some gusty winds reported in some of those storms. Earlier today, of course, there was some tornado activity, Much of it over central and northwest Florida. With that cold front, which moved through that region. Temperatures were in the 80s, and they've dropped into the 60s with that colder air moving in. And that contrast created the turbulent weather down there and some very bad tornadoes, two killed in that one tornado south of Clearwater, Florida, as it hit an elementary school, at least 100-inchered. And of course, you saw pictures of the flooding activity in Louisiana, New Orleans, over nine inches of rain. Most of that rain is now off to the east in a wide band from the Carolinas northward, most areas getting at least an inch. Couple two to three inches of rain in sections of West Virginia, Western North Carolina. The next system we have to look forward to is this, well, weak storm and funnel system over parts of the Rockies and Western Plains, creating snow. Casper, Wyoming, a foot of snow in the last 12 to 18 hours, believe it or not. That storm by tomorrow will have moved from the Colorado area down to parts of North Texas. It'll continue moving eastward and it poses the threat. Here on late Sunday and Monday with the chance of some showers at that time so we'll just have to watch it over the weekend. Saturday looks real good and tomorrow afternoon doesn't look too bad either. 49 Annapolis, 54 Salisbury, 45 Cockeysville, 44 Harrisburg. Southeast winds tomorrow kind of shifting to the northwest 10 to 15. Here's the forecast for tonight. Kind of rainy and drizzly continuing and cool weather low 44 degrees and the five-day forecast looks like this. We'll have some rain activity in the morning, but it'll warm up to 65 under partly cloudy skies in the afternoon, and a partly sunny Saturday, 65, and an increase in clouds late on Sunday, high of 67. Some shower activity late Sunday night and Monday. And Tuesday looks good, 67. And 8 o'clock in the mornin, a few showers with 52 degrees. That's the way it looks.
text/plain
https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/149168/file/273791#t=2608.38,2830.81
https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/149168/file/273791/transcript/80294/annotation/119
Speaker 31: And a month ago we had a 70 degree day or an 80 degree day and it was a short summer
text/plain
https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/149168/file/273791#t=2831.96,2836.38
https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/149168/file/273791/transcript/80294/annotation/120
Speaker 40: It certainly was.
