I wish it were too cheap to spring for a souvenir. Okay. How are you doing? I'm okay, but a little foggy. I'm okay. Yeah. I got to say, the big news of the day. There's a little fog out my way. I thought I'd get my way. Yeah, it's going to be for the next couple few hours. It's going to be cloudy. There'll be some patchy, dense fog around the area, and there could even be a lingering shower. But right now to the west, if you were to really do a detailed observation of a satellite photo, you'd see the clouds starting to break up to the point. Let's go ahead just jump in to the integrity of the forecast for the day. Clouds breaking up out to the west. To the point, though, we're just going to go ahead and post after any morning clouds in the shower. Partly sunny skies. We're pretty confident in the summer like afternoon. And tomorrow, very summer, like in the area, mostly sunny, hot and humid. We'll have a high of 90 degrees tomorrow, possibly warmer tomorrow, certainly warmer on Sunday. This latest movement of energy get to and through the air. Hey, we had some pretty strong thunderstorms last night and there were some areas that picked up a lot of rain. You know, yesterday we were sitting here talking about some good soaking shower activity. Well, there were some areas that in thunderstorms got some strong downpours, multiple inches of rain around the region for the most part. Now, all of this energy is now passed off to the east and here comes warm, humid, summer like conditions back into the area. 72 now. Temperatures this afternoon between. Here's what's happening news wise or not happening news wise this morning. After much anticipation, the finish line financial impasse between Major League Baseball's ownership and its players turned into a full fledged strike late last night after the rain stopped what would have been the local final contest before the strike deadline? Camden Yards workers closed the door on the 94th session this season, and for many Orioles, all it was left to do is pack up their belongings and start the weights. There are two views of how this needs to be settled, and that's what being an American is all about. The free enterprise, the right to have a right to or excuse me, the owners have a right to to make a profit with their product. And yet, because of where the game has is come out for it. As right now, the players also have a right to go out and sell their services and to negotiate what in their mind is an equitable basic agreement. I got the backing started early here in Baltimore. The season's final game or the final game did not end until 12:45 a.m. Eastern time when Seattle beat Oakland out West 8 to 1 in the last of Thursday's nine games. This marks baseball's eighth work stoppage, by the way, since 1972. And if you've got tickets for any of the remaining games on the Orioles home schedule, the Birds front office says not to worry.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/115813/file/219681#t=198.88,294.97"},{"id":"https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/115813/file/219681/transcript/62481/annotation/4","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"As of now, there are about 1,200,000 tickets in circulation sold to future Oriole games. That amounts to $12 million in face value. Orioles management says no one should panic because they're working out the final steps of a program to return people their money or to allow them to exchange their tickets for seats next season. There are still 25 home games on the Orioles schedule. In other news, a 23 year old Russian immigrant was murdered last night during his first shift ever as a pizza delivery man. It was he'd go there and Zayn's first evening as a delivery man at the Pizza Deal restaurant in Pimlico. Someone ordered a pizza for a house on Virginia Avenue, and when he arrived to deliver it, he was shot and killed. Police say it was a setup. Authorities say they're looking for two suspects in connection with the case. President Clinton expressed anger last night over the death. Of his crime bill. The House of Representatives voted the bill down 225 to 210 and upset Clinton. It claims lawmakers gave in to special interest groups. Well, tonight, a majority of the House attempted to take the easy way out. But I have failed the American people. And now I say to them, the easy way out is not an option. Fear and violence, especially among our children, will still be there tonight when they go home to bed. The bill was to provide $33 billion for more police in prisons. It would have also banned some assault weapons, a very unusual alliance of Republicans, gun control opponents and some African-American lawmakers tried to kill the bill. Maryland's Republican representatives, with the exception of Constance Morella, voted against the bill. Morella and all of Maryland's Democrats voted for it. The transfer was part of Commissioner Thomas Fraser's plans to rotate command officers. Frazier changed his mind about transferring Northwestern District Commander Major Barry Powell after numerous protests and complaints from that community. And turning to sports, the Orioles and Boston Red Sox tried to play last night their last game before the strike. But Mother Nature did not cooperate. After two innings, the game was postponed by rain and may or may not have to be made up with the season should resume. As the baseball work stoppage begins. You can be pretty sure there are other owners and players who are going to be quite upset. Some may even get angry. And in fact, that has already happened. Mets star Bobby Bonilla came a bit unraveled last night after being asked one too many. You got a problem? You know, not much. Come on. You know. Stupid. Didn't I tell you to leave? I have to make you move. You make your moves. I'm a little bit more grown up. I told you to leave me alone. And that was a nice team. Doing my job isn't a shove that might get you as far as you can stick it. You know, these guys are pathetic interviews to begin with. Let's just tell the truth about some baseball players, okay? For the most part is interviews. They absolutely stink. Be For the most part, the guys have to promise not to strike. Even after what I just said, because it's just a 20 year labor negotiation with that hasn't gone right on either side. But the owners have essentially brought this on, has nothing to do with money issues. But they are. Here's my point. They are lousy interviews to begin with. They do have a major PR problem. Most of need consultants to be able to say good morning to their next door neighbors. Okay. And right now, what they need to do is get their point across to the American people. Great job, Bobby Bonilla. You won a lot of fans over. But nothing brings tempers to the top, like labor unrest. Well, you know, when people start button hands real quick. Well, if you if you if you're real confident in your issue, you have any idea what you're talking about, You realize now is the time when you don't butt heads. You say, hi, here's what's going on. That was a double extender there, huh? Looking right up Comer Street. Yeah. Shall we proceed? Well, I thought you were taking over command. I have, as a matter of fact. 1700 perhaps. Go Street is where that fire call is going in the city. No problems out of Harford County, but we did see some rain showers earlier this morning on the Kennedy Highway, southbound, the low mountain road down at the harbor, tunnels in the key bridge.
