That was good. It's going to be nice and cool for the weekend, not a whole lot of humidity, but by the time we get back to Tuesday, it's going to feel like it should have felt throughout the entire month of July here in the Baltimore area. It's going to be a nice weekend. If you watch it down at the ocean, you're going to see a few clouds roll by your way here over the next couple hours. It's from a slight disturbance sitting out in the ocean. It's not going to affect your weather hardly at all. Maybe a few puffy clouds this afternoon over the city of Baltimore, and I'm here to tell you, that is a bat in. It's going to be great. Stay alert to current conditions. right now on TV Hill. It is, uh... just brilliant sunshine out there almost blinding as the case may be seventy three now in the city seventy two degrees in the suburbs winds north at nine humidity forty eight percent barometers at thirty oh three it is rising high tide of fort mckenner this afternoon five thirty eight low tide eleven twenty five sunsets at seven fifty p .m. all right let's take a look at sky Eye, one of the skies, Sky Eye, local radar right now. Showing us another big ground cloud around the area, even the stuff you see over Baltimore and out to the northwest. No precepts showing the closest to us, rain -wise, is going to be the stuff sitting out here in the ocean. And there's a little developing area of low pressure right off of Hatteras, and as through the course of the afternoon, it may send some clouds up just right along the coast. So if you're in Ocean City, you see some clouds coming in. Don't go thinking you blew four days worth of pay on four days worth of a hotel room. It's still going to be a great weekend. Let's take a look at Skytrak, the satellite photo. just a beautiful picture today. Here's that frontal system sitting off the coast. Here's that little developing storm. You see some patchy clouds out to the northwest of Baltimore. Very simply, the high pressure that's going to control our weather, which is lodged over the Great Lakes. It's sending some cooler air over the Great Lakes. This is called Lake effect. It hits the warmer lakes, forms clouds on the other side. These little puffy jobs when you're a little kid, you thought, geez, if I were 500 ft tall, I could eat one of those and maybe it would taste like cotton candy. That's just the stuff is going to be coming over. No great big deal. uh... it's just going to be a tremendous weather pattern for the next five days here's the high pressure today let's take a look at tomorrow's map we still have it firmly entrenched over the great lakes it is big massive you got a home barometer you can see them go as high as maybe thirty thirty three before it actually starts to fall a little bit this thing's moving very slowly it will control our weather over the next five days towards the beginning of the week a surge of warm air will come up behind the high pressure the warm front starting to form by this time tomorrow over the dakotas temperatures could go as high as 87. to ninety degrees early next week and then we'll have another frontal passage in the whole situation could start up again that's in the long range short range this weekend one of the few remaining in the summer it's just sunshine blue skies and a boogie as the case may be here's acu with us forecast today we're going to call for a just beautifully sunny there's some clouds high of seventy nine tonight will be a nice chilly night overnight lows from fifty three to sixty one degrees tomorrow just spectacular with high of 79. non -humid degrees. No big problems to worry about updating you on through the course of the afternoon. Bob will be here at 6 with much the same story. Sunshine and a good weekend.
text/plain
https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/144436/file/266946#t=637.03,820.85
https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/144436/file/266946/transcript/77136/annotation/36
Speaker 4: I do thank you for that. Some serious news this afternoon. City police detectives are searching for the man who raped a nine -year -old girl. The crime took place Thursday. Police say the girl was picked up on Franklin Town Road, raped, and then dropped off behind a cemetery on Edmonton Avenue. The victim did give police a good description, describing a young man in his 20s, wearing gray pants, a gray knit shirt, and wearing rouge on his cheeks. The rapist is driving a tan and gold Toyota. The victim is now at home with her parents. Safety is a big concern at the Baltimore's inner harbor. To protect those people against the danger of falling off the walkways and drowning, the city's Harbor Safety Committee has drawn up a plan for a safety wall. This afternoon, they'll show the idea to Mayor Schaefer. Until then, the committee won't discuss the idea, except to say it was drawn up with the help of various groups, including boaters and handicapped organizations. Water can be a danger. Now, what are the prospects for making seawater usable, drinkable, and affordable? Presently, the preferred process is distillation, which accounts for about 76 % of all plant capacity. There are right now 2 ,200 land -based desalting plants worldwide, with a capacity of two billion gallons a day, and that sounds like a lot until you realize that metropolitan Chicago alone uses that much water in two days. But we are getting there. The desalting of seawater and brackish water is important in the Middle East and Africa, of course, where one -third of the world's plants produce two -thirds of the world's desalted water. About a third of all desalinization plants are in the United States, though their combined capacity is only about 15 % of the world's supply. We have plants in California and Florida and Texas and Arizona logically situated to make the most fresh water at the least cost. But costs are still nowhere near the present cost for fresh water. Speaking of costs, it varies with the amount of salt in the water and further desalted water is generally purer than fresh water. But look at it this way, the cost would mean nothing were the supply of fresh water to be exhausted. Here in the United States, we sell very few according to our population. I guess one of the reasons is that we don't know what to do with a coconut. And of course, a lot of us don't know how to open up a coconut. A lot of people say they put it in a vise and hit it with a hammer. A lot of people say they'll take a hammer and start whacking away. I've heard of people who threw it on a cement floor until it cracked wide open. There are people that put them in freezers or they put them in an oven and they say that way, the coconut splits open much, much easier. But I'll tell you something, folks, there are two easy ways in which to open up coconuts. One way, I wouldn't try it unless I was a professional. One day a Samoan came up to me and he said, Joe, I wanna show you a very easy way to open up coconuts. Now folks, a coconut has three vertical lines running up and down the coconut. He says what they do is they take a machete or a knife and hit on each line. And the first thing you know, that coconut splits right in half, forms two perfect cups, and he didn't even spill a drop. Thanks for watching! Now, folks, let me show you another easy way. What I do is I take the coconut and I place the eyes down on the palm of my hand and I start hitting around the top. And believe it or not, folks, before you know it, the top of that coconut will fly right off. This is Joe Carcione, your greengrocer, with your tip for the day. Crushed one Murray with a three -run job to straightaway center field over the 397 sign and it was three nothing Orioles as three trot home, but then in the Oakland first Carney lands for a drills went on a line over the fence and left and so that's where they stand right now Orioles on top of the a's three to one in the second inning on the West Coast Boston meanwhile stayed off our tails Or stayed on the tails of the birds beating Cleveland seven to six tonight Detroit and California just underway Toronto is tied with Minnesota in the seventh, a critical game to both clubs. New York and Seattle just underway to a score. Texas leads Milwaukee 9 -3 in the sixth, and Kansas City is pasting Chicago 5 -0 in the seventh inning. In Chicago at Wrigley Field, the Cubs blanked the Braves 3 -0 today to stay on top of the National League East, and they jumped on them from the very beginning. Ryan Sandberg in the first inning, drills went up, and over the ivy at Wrigley Field, they give the Cubs a 1 -0 lead. From there, a wild pitch and another hit. and the Cubs go on to beat the Braves three to nothing today at Wrigley Field. The Wild Pitch scored a run, that was the second three nothing and uh... they win it today. Elsewhere San Francisco uh... beat the Mets in the first of two, the Mets are leading in the second three to two in the fifth. Six to five Philly over Los Angeles is a final uh... Montreal and San Diego are splitting uh... Houston beat St. Louis and Cincinnati over Pittsburgh. Now with Miles Tannenbaum and the Stars giving Philly a thirty -day period to try and come up with some way to find room in between the Phillies and the Eagles in the fall. Some are saying the USFL is a joke, most of the teams are, but believe me, the organization is not. Some say that we should wait for the NFL to graciously grant us a new franchise. I say no. I don't see any new stadiums going up. I don't see any positive action in that direction. I believe in action, and I think the stars that the league can survive would be a good thing for Philadelphia, or rather, for Baltimore. In the meantime, we have 30 days to speculate on it now, as Philly tries to make a stitch bit. Good thing for Philly and even better thing for Baltimore. I think so.
text/plain
https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/144436/file/266946#t=3267.45,3444.68
https://marmia.aviaryplatform.com/collections/948/collection_resources/144436/file/266946/transcript/77136/annotation/123
Speaker 19: We'll see, thank you.
